What are the expectations for this kid in your eyes?

For Me He is about 4-5 years away from being NFl ready and even then maybe just a backup. He DOES have a good arm and some NFL QB tools but they are nothing more then What We've already seen with failures like Drew Henson.

I honeslty believe that some of his supporters have never seen Him play and are just basing this potential off physical hability.

Even in his highlights you can see that This style of play will take years to develope. EVEN Romo playing at his level showed the capacity to throw the ball. Romo was As raw as they came but He Provided all the tools a QB needs to be succesfull. much more then this guy. This happy Feet run first style Qb is not what dallas needs for the future.

He played in an offense that ran the option. Of course he is going to run the ball.

I think he has potential, and should be the 3rd string QB (If Kitna has to be the starter for an extended period of time due to Romo injury then the Cowboys would need to sign a veteran backup and keep McGee 3rd string for now). He seemed to get more comfortable in the Raiders game as he got more snaps, and did not have a horrendous meltdown with turnovers. He has good zip on the ball on short to intermediate routes. He is a project for sure, but I think its worth having him hang around, wear a baseball cap, and carry a clipboard on the sidelines.

Why the hell do you hate this guy?

Its so early, who knows. But I saw a nice Fball IQ, strong arm, and good mobility.

Learning and running an offense takes time

I would say at the beginning of his 3rd year he would be able to make a positive impact but thats only based on what I saw last night.

His physical attributes really impressed me.

He is a big guy with the ability to buy time/scramble and he looked like he kept his head under pressure.

I came away impressed with the guy.

I dont hate Him. I just dont think this long term project is worth waiting around for.

Romo will be around for a long time yet to come. Kitna will be around for a couple years IMO as a great backup. That means we do have the time to develop McGee, and really, we just need him to develop into a quality backup for when Kitna leaves. He is capable of that based on what I have seen so far.

You could say the same thing about Romo or the rest of Dallas draft Picks, The cowboys should invest in Million dollar Free Agents, like Mark Rivera, Drew Bledsoe....Eddie George, I bet Vince Young could be available:bang3:

maybe draft players that wont take ages to develope...not saying I'm against projects, I'm just not sure about Mcgee. It is what it is. Stop banging your head against the wall.

Oh really, so Romo had all the tools did he, can you tell me what round he was drafted in again, I missed that!!!!!!!!!

McGee is a project, what QB isn't two or three years away, he actually was drafted by his measureables to be groomed as all draft picks are, but you can make your determination after on pre-season game. WOW, and what scouting department in the NFL do you work for...

How about you wait three years and see where he is before you go off half cocked with that logic after one pre-season game..

And if pot head Quincy Carter hadn't been cut after failing a drug test, Romo wouldn't even have been with this team, count your star lucky..

I suppose we should stop drafting in the second day then.

I have nothing against him but I hope he doesn't play this season. If he does that means Romo or Kitna is hurt.

Amen to that

We could start trading all of our picks like Wash. :laugh2:

yea I did not realize that drafting and developing players was a bad thing; I mean just because teams like Greenbay and Atlanta turned QB's like that into 1st round picks from 4th round picks we be stupid to develop a young player.

I mean how dare us actually develop a qb, lb or any other player we drafted

More over priced FA for the win instead

He looked a bit lost out there at times, but he's a rookie and this offense is like nothing he's ever been in. You can definitely see his athleticism when he scrambles out of the pocket and he seems to have a good arm. It's just a matter of getting used to the speed of it and knowing where people are going to be.

I think he'll be fine in a couple more years and will be a good replacement for Kitna and possibly an eventual replacement for Romo when he gets up there in age.

I'm not against developing players...I'm against going for players that are so far off being Football ready they cannot contribute. Obviously I have my Likes and dislikes and Mcgee is not someone I'm sold on.
