Romo 78-49 regular season.
QB wasn’t the problem .
Agree..
We could’ve done a better job fixing the problem had Romo not been paid like he won the Super Bowl.

Not sure I understand...you would prefer Dak not take less salary?
My point is just that the size of his pie increases by being here, but the pie is split more towards endorsement dollars versus salary dollars. Both sides benefit because he likely earns more money than he would elsewhere, and we don't have to pay the same salary premium that a loser organization like Buffalo would to retain him. If it were me as GM, I'd try to estimate whatever the gap would be in endorsement dollars by him going elsewhere (obviously challenging to do with a significant # of variables that we are not privy to) and net that from whatever you estimate his 'open market' price would be and that would be my opening bid.
I think it would be foolish for a player an agent to ignore the endorsement / post-career earning potential that comes from being a lifetime Cowboy after seeing how easily / quickly prominent players have translated their cowboys stardom into significant $$$. CBS / MNF gigs don't happen for Romo and Witten if they are lifetime Cardinals.
We might have to pass on the 332M tag.Dak's play is simple.
Play this year well enough on his current deal.
Take the $332 million franchise tag in 2020.
Take the tag again in 2021, which has an auto increase to about $38 million.
Enter free agency and grab the mother load.
That is....as long as you play really well.
Injuries are low risk for quarterbacks in terms of recovery and longevity.
Most Dak haters haven't thought that far ahead.........nor do they remember the dry spell between Aikman and Romo.We let him walk and have who to play qb.
Campbell's, Dannon, Pepsi, etc. endorsements are possible TODAY and the money is coming TODAY because he is the Dallas Cowboys QB. Don't see what's challenging to understand about this...any agent that can't recognize that overall earning potential materially falls the day he leaves Dallas for that extra little bit of guaranteed $$ from some irrelevant market is an idiot and deserves to be fired. Athletes today are about building a brand, as they should be. In order to do that, sacrifices are made, whether it's relocation, taking less to join a winner, etc. To reduce that complexities of the financial discussions that surround that to "turn down money today for money he might make in the future" is incredibly shortsighted...Sounds smart.

What???Romo started in 6 games his third year and became the starter in year 4 so take a look at years 3-5 and get back with us. If you're going to compare, make it fair...
LOLRomo was elite
What???
Romo had 3 years of learning the system from the sidelines and learning from Quincy Carter, Vinnie Testaverde and Drew Bledsoe before he ever started, so Romo had a HUGE ADVANTAGE OVER DAK who was thrown to the fire as a redshirt rookie from Day 1! Yet, Dak's first 3 years starting stats are almost all better than Romo's first 3 years starting.
LOL...Try again.
Compare (average) all first 3 seasons.Wait, Dak had a 4,200 yard 36 touchdown season and we all missed it somehow?
People are over complicating this. Make Dak prove it in 2019. If he wins a superbowl he gets his payday. If he craps out this year, then thats on him too.
There is no need to rush the contract. No need. Let him earn it.
A team game. I know brady is a unique situation and has a better hc. But he took less so he could have other quality around him to help.
Obviously Dak isn’t brady, Lol. Not comparing the 2, but wondering if Dak would think about taking a little less so we could sign Cooper easier.
Of course it really only works when the whole team stays cap friendly. A qb signs for 5 mil a year less so it can help sign other players but then another player gobbles it up on his contract. Lol.
Kind of like Robert Newhouse, that poor guy had to fight for a roster spot every year......he out worked whoever they brought in to compete with, but he was still able to turn in into a pretty lengthy career.People are over complicating this. All's he gots to do is win the whole enchilada...People are over complicating this. Make Dak prove it in 2019. If he wins a superbowl he gets his payday. If he craps out this year, then thats on him too.

they tried this with Tank, and it cost them $4M a year extraPeople are over complicating this. Make Dak prove it in 2019. If he wins a superbowl he gets his payday. If he craps out this year, then thats on him too.

LolWho cares if we overpay Dak by 8m
That is one TCrawford or RQuinn
Are you really saying you want one of those guys over a Franchise QB? Child Please
Plus we are 20m under the cap this year and 12m last yea and 90m next year..... we aren't even spending the cap space we have and that is without getting creative
If we pay Dak 25m that means we can always restructure him and create 15-20m in cap space to sign anyone
Just don't be stupid Stephen.
Learn from Romo's contract when you paid him that money before he ever won anything.
If Dak isn't winning championships making below a million it's going to be incredibly difficult if he's making 30 mill.
