this guy is gunn be a stud , i hope we get him
I am not so sure. He definitely has elite speed, but is he one of those 20+carry a game guys? If not, how can you justify spending what we think will be a high draft choice on him? Is he as dynamic as Reggie Bush? At this point in time, I would have to say no.

he is a better runnin back than reggie bush... reggie bush will never be a 20plus carry guy ... he is a mismatch player for other teams not a great running back . slaton is a running back who will be a star in the nfl.... and about this jackson guy from cal .. he is very fast but im not so sold on him like most of you seem to be ... hope he proves me wrong as the wr positon doesnt seem to be so deep for next year ... i like lima sweed from texas tho

Prospect Name: Steve Slaton
RB_SCALE.JPG

Position:RB
School: West Virginia
40 Time: 4.35 (Unofficial)
Height: 5-10
Weight: 195 lbs
Jersey #: 10
NFL Comparison: Willie Parker
Projection: 1st Round Pick

Strengths: Rich Rodriguez's West Virginia Mountaineer's are one of the most exciting teams to watch in College Football. The main attraction on offense, consists of a lethal combination of Pat White and Steve Slaton. Slaton posseses game-changing speed and when he kicks it in high gear, there is no way anybody is going to catch him. Another thing you have to love about Slaton is his terrific hands. A wrist injury at the end of the season in 06, caused Slaton to fumble a couple of balls and drop a couple of passes, but Slaton can really catch the ball well. Slaton can also make just about any defender miss with terrific juke moves. Vision plays a huge role in Slaton's game. Whenever he takes the ball outside, Slaton shows terrrific patience and vision to hit the hole and take the ball all the way to the house. Stamina is not much of a problem for Slaton, who for a speed back, impressively can carry the ball a lot throughout the ball game without showing signs of fatigue.

Areas For Improvement: Steve Slaton will only be a junior heading into the 07 season, but if he decides to enter the NFL Draft, he will definitely have to bulk up. Right now at 195 lbs, Slaton needs to put on some more weight or he will take a beating on a regular basis. Slaton also tends to run backwards at times to try and make a big play for his team, which will usually relsult in a huge loss, but occasionally he will break one for a long gain.

Overall Assesment: Overall, Steve Slaton has the makings of being a great speed back in the NFL. Although I feel Slaton should stay in school for his senior season, if he comes out, he could really be something special in the NFL.

Haven't seen him play but he sounds like a game changer. I'd love to have someone like him. Next year would be perfect for us to pick up someone like that.

We really haven't had a player like that since Walker. He didn't really have the quicks as much as he was fast.

I love this kid. Our backfield of the future is MB3/Slaton.

Awesome video of Slaton:

Slaton is faster than Reggie, I can see him end up being better.

I don't think Steve Slaton can handle 20+ carries a game consistantly. I definitely would prefer drafting McFadden over this guy. People complain about Julius Jones but Slaton is no different....

Are you kidding me. Slaton as legit 4.3 flat speed. JuJo is barely under 4.5 and is not nearly as fast as some of you make him out to be. Secondly and big difference, Slaton has awesome receiving abilities, and JuJo hands sucks. That is why we don't throw him a lot of screens. Slaton has awesome vision whereas JuJo has trouble not running into his blockers. Slaton also averaged 7.0 yards per carry on 230 plus carries, that is unbelievable no matter what system you are in.

To say slaton=JuJo is just ignorance.

And Slaton can easily put on 5 to 10 pounds. Lets remember McFadden is 6'2 and 205 lbs. So McFadden is just as skinny. A lot of these guys don't really start filling into their bodies until their Junior/Senior years. And with MB3 Slaton doesnt need to be a 20+ carry guy.

Stop it please, Quincy go do some research. Julius Jones is a legit 4.4 running back and heavier. Darren McFadden is the best running back in college, hands down. Look at the competition both backs face in college, let's see SEC versus Big East... Do I need to say anything else, McFadden is more powerful and runs just as fast..

Well first of all JuJo runs the 40 in 4.47, stop trying to make him seem faster than he really is. Go do your research.

And McFadden is an awesome back no doubt. But he is not faster than Slaton, anybody who has seen both of them play knows that. McFadden probably runs around a 4.4 +/- .02. Slaton no doubt runs around a 4.3 +/- .02. Slaton also has better wiggle than McFadden. But both are great backs.

NO ONE will be a 20+ carry back in Dallas. Not as long as MB3 is around. MB3 got 8 carries a game last year. He WILL get more in 07. JJ got 16.5 carries in 06. Even McFadden wouldn't get 20+(21 x 16 = 336) dream on if ya think the Cowboys will give it to a back 336 times. Emmitt broke the 330 carry mark 4 times in 13 years in Dallas. Those 20+ carry days are about gone in the NFL. The LT's and LJ's are the HUGE exception.

At the combine Julius Jones ran a legit 4.4 so what's your point. Slaton is overrated and played a very easy schedule in the Little East formerly known as the Big East...

Do your home work

http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/julius_jones

And look at their stats from the Mississippi State game if you want to judge them equally:

ATT YDS AVG LNG TD REC YDS AVG LNG TD FUM LST
Slaton 26 185 7.1 27 1 2 23 11.5 15 0 0 0

McFadden 26 84 3.2 17 0 0 0 0.0 0 0 0 0

So don't give me that weak competition b.s.
