Giving them a vet (Patrick) and a speed WR prospect doesn't hurt us that much. We have young WRs that might be cut, hence the 2 players involved. I'm not doing a madden here. I know that we'll have to add something (draft) to the 2 WRs in my original trade scenario.
I see my wording placement might be off in the thread, but the content is still pretty clear.
A proven #1 / #2 WR to team up with TO.
Thats how it was supposed to be written, my bad but still nothing close to what you are posting (MADDEN ?????).
I just reread my original post and the wording is correct, don't know how the above Quote got missed up.??

Yes you did. You said we should up the ante and give them our 2009 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks, along with Crayton and Henry. I posted that trade would border on idiocy.

25.65mil over the next 5 years.
With cap hits of 1.75mil 2008, 3.40mil 2009, 5.75mil 2010, 7.00mil 2011, 7.75mil 2012.
This is a fair trade based on real value. You have to understand our 1st, 2nd and 3rd rd picks in 2009 are valued as 32, 64 and 96.
If we or Carolina wanted to use those picks in a package to trade up in the 2009 draft, we wouldn't get higher than 12.
You guys are overvaluing the picks and players and undervaluing having Steve Smith's services for 5 years at 25.65mil.
Steve Smith is a top 5 ProBowl WR. He is right their with Moss, Owens and Johnson. But unlike Moss and Owens he has 5 good years left.
If you want to understand how valuable Smith's deal is, just compare to Owens' contract. 2008 $5,728,388, 2009 $8,995,000, 2010 $10,725,000, 2011 $10,225,000
We are paying Owens over 35 mil the next 4 years. Smith's price tag for the same 4 years would be, 17.9 mil.
No, you don't understand. We've been down this road before when we made a trade for a certain Ohio St. WR and it blew up in our face. First off, you don't get rid of TWO starters and the first 3 picks of our next year's draft for ANY receiver at this point, especially one that is injury-prone and might not be a good locker room presence. You are just mortgaging the future of the team. You can't just look at where we will be drafting, you have to consider we would be giving up 5 players. Secondly, I've already addressed the contract issue. Smith will want a new contract within a couple of years and one or two things will happen. His team will refuse and he'll holdout and become disgruntled or the team will give him much more $. Both are losing propositions. No thanks. If we could get him for a reasonable trade, yes. Not one like you're suggesting.

Star4ever,
Are you aware that
dueyhemlock and
sonnyboy are 2 different posters right?
If you read through the last couple of pages in this thread, you would have seen that I didn't even offer a draft pick/picks of my choice until
iceberg called me out. See below

take a $5mil cap hit. GENIOUS!
sorry, i get instantly against anyone who uses "insert trade bait of the day that makes no thought overall" as a player to get what we...they want.
madden 2009 will be out soon. have at it.
Picks needed (so call layout
) would be determined market value, other resent trades, other teams involved, etc.
Myself, start with a 2nd and the players Patrick/Austin. Then let the bidding war begin.
If the 5 mil cap hit gets us the ultimate goal, then so be it.
"Trade bait of the day"-?- These players were used to fill the hole in Caroina's roster, vet and speed propect WR. That is pretty clear why I used these players.

I get instantly against anyone...blah, blah, blah....If you would of comprehended what i posted, it was clear why I used this trade scenario. Sorry you get annoyed at other's opinions that doesn't follow in suit with yours. Good luck with that.
And what's up with this Madden crap? I don't even play Madden, I'm a HALO man.
My 1st post of this thread is below,

Watching and comprehending are totally two different things. Smith is an elite player.
He (Smith) would complete our 1-2 punch at WR and leave all the body shots wide open for Witten, Barber and company.
Carolina would want a replacement WR plus more. They're eating cap so we could do to same due to Smith's salary this year.
Trade Patrick (they would have their vet WR) and a young WR (maybe Austin to replace their speed at the WR position). Then
add in the necessary drafts picks as needed.
Smith will take Patrick's spot, one of the bubble WR (Amendola, Jefferson) takes Austins spot.
No need to deplete our depth at other positions, use draft picks to complete the deal.
Having said that, Carolina would be stupid to lose their best offensive weapon. I just don't see it happening. Dang, I hope I'm wrong.
If your going to disagree/argue with others over differences, make sure you have the right poster. I'm only saying this because this is the second time in this thread that I have pointed this out to you. Good luck with your reading or scanning.
