Show me fan likes Prescott but worries about Lamb's "allusiveness".
And he's got a 40 year old article to back him up.
Okay...you read an article 40+ years ago? Hmmm...dude.
So...I've said many times I am not a football expert let alone NFL. (so I do have a hard time keeping up with all the experts HERE!) However.....I am pretty good on guitar. I could hand YOU a guitar and I tell if you are any good within seconds. You wouldn't not even have to be in an arena or bar "stage". Just the way you held it and strum a few chords or a scale.
So....I expect the true NFL experts, like our scouts, coaches and execs....to have the same sort of skills. They've actually done a pretty good job the last 4-5 years or so, with the exception what seems like a few Jerry and/or Marinelli pet projects. They can tell. True...it doesn't always pan out but the telltales are there.
There's a saying for every off season...hope springs eternal. Like I said, I'm not analytic expert so that part of it escapes me...but I AM, and HAVE BEEN...many years a fan. I find having some optimism is WAY more fun than hand wringing and reserve. Some people think it's not cool to invest like that...don;t care. I feel a certain air of excitement and optimism. Not afraid of that all hope crushed feeling. Bring it on. FUN! It's what all this is supposed to be about. Not constant bickering, one-upmanship and complete "objectivity" ... BOO THAT!
The date of the article was not really important, except to you and Risen. I cited the article as a frame of reference concerning a reason as to how players come into the league with great reputations and then fail or disappoint. That may have been forty years ago, but nothing has changed about the debate proffered. Every year there are players selected and within three years they prove to have been over-valued or busts. A hell of a lot more than you see with the Brady's and Montana's who slip far lower than their talent proves to be.
You then went on to tell me about this team and how they have been doing good in the draft for four or five years. Yet, if you mention Connor Williams, Trysten Hill, and a few others, the brain trust on this site will go into orbit about the poor drafting. Or toss out TJ Watt and see what the temperament is here.
One of the points couchcoach brought up was OU plays in the Big 12 which is not known for tackling. I neither agree or disagree with that point. Yet if this players forte is the RAC, and the competition is less than stellar in college, it's not being negative to contemplate how he will transition.
After all, it was just a question. But, as a side note, I am pretty pumped about MM and this coming season. I think this draft will prove to be one of the best this team has fielded in more than four or five years. Certainly better than the Special Teams draft Jerry heralded which still causes real football men to laugh uncontrollably.
I, too, play the guitar. I understand your analogy. However, the guitar and the individual level of expertise is so arbitrary. What is good? What is proficient? What is professional?
I believe assessing the skill set of a player in college and then extrapolating it to the pros may be more difficult. Surely this team we both follow has shown a propensity to pick the lame horse in the Kentucky Derby with a frequency that suggesting they are good is questionable for even the last 4-5 years considering some of their selections.
As far as Risen, his comment was based on advice from his psychologist that Cowboy Zone is an outlet to thwart his angst at his life-long bed wetting. It seems "likes" builds his self esteem, supplanting the necessity of plastic underoos.
