Interesting thread.
Yes, the Cowboys have their work cut out for them against the pass. At first, the deep pass up the middle seemed to be the biggest kryptonite against the Cowboys.
Detroit, just like last year, found a way to expose our short pass defense, especially on the outside.
I think what really surprised the Cowboys was the fact that they were able to run the ball on them. I think Detroit's ability to run really threw off the entire Cowboys defense and made them vunerable to the pass.
I think the Secondary had a bad game, but I think there were two primary reasons for that:
1. Jon Kitna had all day to throw, even when we blitzed and I don't think we sacked him once, at least in the 1st half we didn't
2. At some point, Jon Kitna and his receivers were in such a rhythmn, that Kitna was anticipating his throws (as Jaws likes to say) and was throwing the ball even before his receivers were making their cuts. Obviously, it is the defense's job to throw his timing off, which they finally did to give the offense the ball back.
Also, is it me, or did Jon Kitna seem to go after Anthony Henry, during the series where they were backed up in the endzone after Witten's fumble?
On the huge 3rd down during that series, he let Furrey catch one to bail them out. Later, he let Calvin Johnson catch a huge one as well.
