I’m proud to say that I’ve never received a participation trophy in my life and I played sports in high school and college. The closest thing I got to a participation trophy was my college coach telling me “that sucks for you but we already got your replacement “ when I told him I needed season ending rotator cuff surgery.
And you posted this as a good thing? That a man entrusted with your life, was a excrement of a human being and complete waste of skin. Please tell me your joking

Uh....the "old timers" come from a generation of earning everything they got.
It's funny you mention this. I remember my pee wee football team back in 1975..... My team sucked - we lost every game very badly. Yet at the end of the season we had a party (or whatever it was called) at a Panchos Mexican Buffet of all places. Even though we lost every damn game each player received a trophy. For what, I couldn't tell you. It wasn't until years later when people started using the term 'participation trophy' that I remembered 1975. There isn't any other way to explain what happened then, everyone on that suck arse team received a participation trophy.

You mentioning the old timers coming from a generation of earning everything might not be exactly true without trying to come up with a time period when it started happening. I too thought it was a newer generation thing, but damn, it happened to me 48 years ago. Maybe it was just a football thing, or maybe the coach felt bad for a bunch of 10-year old children. I will never know. None of my little league baseball teams ever handed out trophies for losing, and that was the only time in my entire life I received an award for being a loser.

Nope, not joking. That’s the way sports was when I was young. It prepared me for the harshness of the work world. Everyone is replaceable and I’m glad I learned that at a young age so when I got older I didn’t take it personal.

IM 53 years old. Ive been a fan since 1977. Im starting to have friends and family pass away. I live and die by this team all fall. BUT...seasons can not only be fun if you win a title. I coached softball for 20 years at a very high level, and I always told my girls that the game could not only be fun if you win The game is always fun. I live in ca and i will be going to the opener with my wife and oldest daughter and the the chargers, Cards and niners games with my oldest daughter. I hope we win a title.... but it is damn hard. So as we prepare for the 2023 season... step back, take a breath and enjoy the damn season. I want nothing more than for this team to win a sb....but not one person in here will have a better life if we do. Enjoy the ride, enjoy the games..... and go Cowboys!
What's funny is all these people criticizing your post. They talk about winning. But they aren't playing. They aren't winning.. They actually believe they win if someone else wins.

It's called entertainment for a reason. Yet to some, a win gives them the only thing they'll be able to brag about winning something.

Sad, actually.

It would work about as well as having a section for the fans who are constantly farting rainbows and riding around on their unicorns waving their blue and silver pompoms. Dallascowboys.com tried having a section like that for the members who demanded to have their own area filled with bunny rabbits and sunflowers, and guess what? It failed miserably - everyone who screamed to have their own little utopia still spent all their time on the main discussion board complaining about everyone who didn't think like they did. The new section they demanded was a ghost town and was eventually closed.

Calling them unintelligent is very fitting. It's very idiotic to defend people who whine about games that don't count. They're not intelligent enough to realize preseason games are used to teach and assess.

I guess a hit dog will hollar!!
I made no mention of anything other than the irony of whining about whining. Is it dumb to complain about the preseason? Yes. Does that make a person unintelligent? no. This has been going on for years and my original comment wasn't intended to single out the Op but the behavior displayed by the Op and several others here.

Exactly, and that’s why you don’t sweat the small stuff and don’t take things personally.

Well my man, all I can do at this point is apologize that you met a PO.S when you needed a man in or woman in your life. You got through it and Kudos to you and your parents. But just because you

had the fortitude and good fortune to persevere, doesn't make who was supposed to be a molder of young minds any less of a piece of trash. I've coached in the past and let me just say when I saw

coached of that ilk It made me sick to my stomach. None of my kids are world class athletes, Many are good fathers , good men and several are now serving our country in the military. All of them when they see me are

Grateful and have even introduced me to their wife and kids. Winning is indeed everything, but in the game of life. Peace to you and yours

Thank you, I appreciate it. Fortunately for me I had a strong support system with my parents and they helped me reframe it to be a life lesson. With their help I was able to grow from it and learn not to take things personally. But I appreciate people/coaches like you that have a different approach cuz some college athletes don’t have a great support system within family structure. But again I appreciate the kind words brother.

Meh…. every month there is an “I quit being a fan” thread and then followed by the monthly “You people are ungrateful” thread.

This Is the way.

As a fan who hasn't seen us make it to an NFCC, I'm excited about this season. Every season under McCarthy, so far, has seen us get further. I like our defence. Our WRs look solid. I think Dak is a solid QB. I think this will be a fun season.

I coached fastpitch softball for 20 years, 6 of those were in HS. I can promise you, those teams that we spanked regularly never viewed me as someone that gave out participation trophies. I am actually so competitive that my wife wont play board games because it is all about winning. I even track other players and what that ask in the game CLUE to make sure I win. But with the NFL,I am a fan, not a participant. I was around for 4 of the Cowboys 5 SB wins, and not a single one of them changed my life. Maybe someday you will learn that.
 I'm not questioning your coaching acumen, but, girl's softball? Go Tiger.

Your wife not wanting to play board games with you isn't anything to brag about. Get a clue.

If Cowboy's SB victories don't change your life then it's not that important to you and your fandom doesn't compare to some of the rest of us.

I have witnessed all the Cowboys' SB wins and losses and they all changed my life in one way or another. You're a fan, I'm Diehard!.

It's all LOVE Brother. I have three sons and one daughter . Hearing your story makes me sick. I've raised my sons to be tough, stoic, masculine male who can overcome life's adversities, I raised my daughter to appreciate a strong man, so I understand Tough love but what happened to you

is unacceptable. Be blessed , be strong Bro
