I'd much rather draft a pure FS, and slide Hamlin to SS.

I'd love to have an Ed Reed on the team.

I'm one of those that believes Roy's coverage abilities (or lack thereof) gets blown way out of proportion (it does), but what bothers me is the lack of big hits that he used to have regularly. He used to fire the defense up when he laid people out. He doesn't do that anymore. I can live with his coverage (I watch other SS's play and Roy isnt' nearly as bad as some think) but ONLY if he's laying people out and causing fumbles.

And Hamlin is overrated. I wish we hadn't payed him cuz he's not worth it. He's a "One Year Wonder" IMO. Solid, but nothing special.

This is just my opinion, and I'm cetainly not the be all.

I don't think Hamlin would be a good stong safety. I watched him play centerfield in the Pro Bowl game, and he was outstanding. I thought it was one of his best games. I just don't think Hamlin is big enough to take on running backs. He didn't look good against the Rams, and he missed some tackles when he tried to go real low and wrap up. I remember one on Jackson. Plus, on the long TD run, Hamlin looked really weak taking on a block. It was a weak effort.

I really like Hamlin in pass coverage. Just think what it was like before he got to Dallas.

It was bombs away.

I can not believe what you guys are saying. There really are only a few positions that need to be addressed. And by addressed i mean add depth. We could use another DE IMO. Another corner might not be a bad idea, but really when has having another corner ever been a bad idea. The exact same thing can be said for the O-line. I have never like B. James as a LB, but i don't see things changing there anytime soon. I would really like to see Hamlin move to SS and Watkins play FS. This is the one position I feel we should take a long hard look at and try to bring someone in from the draft. Back up QB can also be addressed in the draft IMO.

RB and TE are the only positions on this team that don't need to be looked at strongly. Backup QB is obviously an issue, unless the team actually feels Bollinger can play. Safety has been a sore spot on this team since Woody retired. Watkins had/has promise, but never seems to take the next step. Hamlin moving to SS might be a viable option, allowing us to get a true rangy player back there. It looks like the Courtney Brown experiment may be a disappointment. I don't think he's much of a tackler. O-line is always addressed, although it seems we have had 30 guys try out for line positions in the last two years....we can't seem to get the right guy. You can never have enough pass rushers and corners.

...but even more than the safety position, the area that needs to be addressed the most is ILB. We need more speed at linebacker. Badly. Imagine a 'Patrick Willis' type player playing inside with Ware and Spencer outside.

James is a two down player with limited ability. Thomas and Ellis are on their last legs. Spencer is showing a tendency for nagging injuries. We're hurting inside and outside.

Well. You're making some good points. Spencer will be fine IMO but you do need three pass rushers and I don't know how long Ellis will last.

I've said for awhile we need to draft a MILB; say like Patrick Willis. They will never pass on a player like Ware or a great pass rusher type. So I don't worry they'd pass on that. But Jerry has not drafted MLBs cause 'you can always find one'. Well not anymore.

We had that small conversation a week ago. We need faster ILBs that can cover. They need to be drafted and not found in FA.

#1 we already have our other DE in Ratliff. Canty is gone
#2 we need a nose tackle not a defensive tackle
#3 corners are always nice but jerry sux at drafting them
#4 we need to find Zach's replacement
#5 we need a Strong safety
