On a serious scale (1-10), how would you rate your post?

You build through the draft and try to find bargains in FA. Spence is a bargain IMO, no problem with him coming back. I understand the optimism with DLaw bit he really hasn't done anything in the league yet. I'm still not convinced he isn't a SDE. We need to draft a WDE and SDE.

If I were them, I'd ride out the Lawrence/Mincey rotation one more year to see what you really have and apply the same fix to the strong side. Maybe resign Spencer (or a comparable SDE to a Mincey-type contract), then draft his eventual replacement early. That seems way more efficient to me than moving Mincey to the strong side and then trying to draft two DEs to rotate at both sides. Especially on the weak side -- you're either burning another early draft pick on a guy to compete with Lawrence, or you're taking a guy late in the draft who probably isn't that good anyway.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Not a lot in the DE field to begin with. There is a pretty good chance we get shut out unless we are willing to put the cash up to go after Derrick Morgan or better yet Jabaal Sheard. Clayborn is not a player I consider worth grabbing unless he comes with a low pricetag. With Hughes off the market, McPhee can basically name his price, eliminating Dallas.

I know everyone is going to scream but, none of the top tier guys will be on Dallas' radar. Like Jerry and Stephen
said, they are using available cap space to sign their own guys and wait a week or so to shop for lower tier
guys to fill holes until the draft. If you develop a list of 2nd & 3rd tier DL, you would get closer to the list
that will be on their shopping list.

Smith in the 2nd, Maudlin in the 3rd. Smith at DE in base. Smith at 3 with Crawford at 1 and Maudlin at DE in Nickle.

Dilemma solved.

Though seriously, its probably close to what we will be looking at. I think you want a traditional LDE, but one who can play inside on passing down, and have a specialist you bring off the bench, be it another rookie or a vet
