Strongest Arm QBs Ever Played

Elway
George
Favre
Marino - so little effort
Moon - threw the prettiest ball you would ever want to see
Bledsoe

I remember seeing Bledsoe in person when he was young and was amazed at the ropes he was throwing....since I was at field level, you could see that ball was just humming with no air under it.

Some guys have a strong arm for deep throws and some have it for shorter routes.

Good call on Bledsoe.

I saw him play a couple of times when he was here with the Cowboys and you could see the difference between him and all the other QB (Henson and Romo). They all threw the same patterns and the same receivers in warm-ups but Bledsoe would throw 30 yards on a rope and the other guys had noticeable air under the balls. And neither Romo nor Henson have what I would call weak arms. It just shows how incredibly strong Bledsoe was even toward the end of his career.

Jeff George always amazed me with his arm. Shame he had a million dollar cannon arm and a 10 cent head...

If there was just some way we could have transplanted Bledsoe's arm to Romo...

Thanks, I think that Bledsoe left a bad taste in our mouths here, but he really did have a great arm, and watching him in warmups was amazing especially early in his career. Too bad the wizard didn't give him legs.

I'll take Romo the way he is, but while we are building the perfect QB, give me Marino's release, George's arm, Elway's legs, and Favre's moxie. Add in Staubach's leadership, Aikman's accurancy and Vick's feet for good measure. :)

I don't believe there has ever been a QB with a stronger arm than Elway.

Who was the Washington SB QB from Grambling? He is top ten and maybe top 5 in my opinion.

Doug Williams.

He threw the prettiest passes I have ever seen. The nose of the ball was up and the ball was so much easier to catch. I have never seen another QB who could do that.

I still say Elway had the strongest arm by far. I have no idea how far he could throw it, but no one could throw it as hard as him.

I still say Uncle Rico got screwed in 1982 or he'd dominate this list.

I hate to say this because I hate Steve Young...but...we could add in his mind. He had a brilliant mind for football...too bad he was with the 40whinners.

Elways up there but there have been some other hammers out there. Some were just a blip. Who was that throwin Samoan? Fouts had a big arm. Dawson had a decent arm. Moon. That other QB for Houston..the dragster guy. Roman Gabrial had one of the first biggest arms. There are many more. Lamonica wasn't bad. Moon, Fouts, and Gabriel had big arms. I'd have to see some others I'm thinking about to say whether they had big arms. Cunningham had a bigger arm than Elway but Elway threw those long sideline outs on a better rope and was more accurate in general. Gilliam and Williams had big arms but they weren't consistent enough in throwing those long ropes down the field.

It is ball speed that detemines how far a ball can go on what appears to be a fairly flat trajectory. Once any object becomes affected by gravity which is the millisecond it leaves the hand of the QB it will fall at a constant speed primarily affected by gravity only. A ball which spirals at an optimum twist or twirl can effect the flight of the ball and minimalize the effects of drag and friction enabling the ball to fly further but not longer in time.

Basically the faster the bullet the farther down the field it can get before falling. If it goes 4000ft/sec then it will go further downfield before dropping two inches that a similar bullet at 2000 ft/sec. You get it. If you want to talk more we can but this bit will likely annoy more than a few which is likely the number who enjoyed physics 101.

When I was in the sixth grade I could add in my mind also. It was a very liberating feeling. Alas as I grew older I felt that devine ability to add slip away. Now I use a calculator as do all us mental cripples.

michael bishop

"It is the strongest arm I've ever seen," Brady said this week, shaking his head in disbelief. He threw that thing the length of the field!" Faulk exclaimed. "Close anyway. It must have went 90-95 yards. "Incredible," Brady said when asked to describe Bishop's memorable heave.

I have heard Jamarcus Russell has thrown close to 90. He will be in the conversation soon.

I can understand the disbelief. Hard to even imagine how someone can throw a ball 90 yards.

If you ever saw Gary Hogeboom when he was young, he'd throw bullets at his recievers.

After John Elway, and then I would venture to say Randall Cunningham, Hogeboom had the strongest arm I'd ever seen.

He had an arm like a cannon, but never lasted in the NFL.

I cited him earlier in the thread. He simply had no touch or mobility.
