Elway and Jeff George had the strongest arms I've seen from guys no longer playing.

Geez, that just brings back nightmares of when I traded away my Troy Aikman rookie card for a Jeff George rookie card.... top prospect my butt.

How nostalgic.

All in all, the strongest arms are not the mark of the greatest quarterbacks.

Someone here mentioned Michael Vick, who definitely possessed a rocket, but chose to run too much-which I thought hurt his team more than if he'd passed the ball.

One other strong armed quarterback I had forgotten was Daryl Lamonica of the Raiders. I was too young to get to watch him. Does anyone here remember him?

One name I don't think I've seen is David Woodley. Best known as the QB who bridged the gap between Griese and Marino and having one of the worst Superbowl QB performances of all time, but awesome arm strength and rumored to be even stronger than Marino.

If you ever saw Gary Hogeboom when he was young, he'd throw bullets at his recievers.

After John Elway, and then I would venture to say Randall Cunningham, Hogeboom had the strongest arm I'd ever seen.

He had an arm like a cannon, but never lasted in the NFL.
Hogeboom's biggest problem was that he could never learn to to lock onto his intended reciever. Every player in the stadium knew who he was going to throw to as soon as the play started. He had the arm he had the quick release...he could have been a great pocket passer if he had just had the head for the game.

I got to see Daryl Lamonica with the Raiders for several years before he was ousted by Kenny "the Snake" Stabler. They called Lamonica "the Mad Bomber" and he did indeed have a cannon arm. He threw a beautiful deep ball and was pretty accurate with it as well...he just couldn't throw the short routes and he had a slow release that got him into trouble some. Stabler was more accurate underneath and had a quicker release and that is why he took the job.

Having played WR for a NFL QB in high school that had an Elway Cannon, sometimes that grates on a wr moreso that an QB that hits you in stride accurately with touch - ala Montana, Brady, Romo
