Strongest Arm QBs Ever Played

Its a good thing that the OP put Brett Favre at #1.... otherwise FloridaRob would have hijacked this thread by now... :laugh1:]

Even still 80 posts and no FloridaRob... maybe his "Brett" "Favre" email keyword alert isnt working :laugh1:

Randle Cunningham threw an 82 yard pass (yards in the air) across his body flat footed to the oppsite side of the field.

Does that make him the NFL QB with the strongest arm? No, but he has to be in the mix along with Elway and several others.

I'm kinda surprised that nobody is really talking about Doug Williams. I have him in my top 5. When he came out of Grambling, he could seriously throw the ball a ton. Really unfortunate that he spent so many years getting the ever-loving-crap knocked out of him in Tampa Bay.

This is what I was talking about earlier.

Cunningham could throw it a mile, but he couldn't rifle the 20 yard pass like Elway could. If you watch Randal's deep throws, he usually had a baseball wind-up that he could really sail the ball with. He just didn't throw the intermediate pass that would knock the receiver down.

John Elway threw the ball harder than any QB I had every seen. Cunningham, George, and Favre would have to be up there as well.

You beat me to it. Definitely in the top 5 and had some success in Baltimore. I grew up watching him at LSU.

I say Jones play as a senior in college. I just never thought about him but I saw him make some very accurate long throws that college players just don't make. I don't remember him much as a pro. The Colts seemed to fade about that time didn't they?

Our B Johnson. Not Bert Jones who I only remembered because someone brought him up.

So what is your list Bob?

Um, he was making an oral sex joke.

Its obviously a little different than slinging a football, but I heard a story that in college Elway could stand on home plate and throw a baseball over the outfield wall.

Fouts could, and did, rifle the ball over the field at high velocity.
Moon, too. He kinda gets lost in time but he had an impressive arm for a long time.
George and Elway always blew me away with their arm strength. Maybe George even more. He seemed like he could be falling down and throw a rope 50 yards downfield with little visible effort. George was always the one QB that just made me shake my head at his arm strength.
I always thought Aikman had a huge arm in college. Thought he had a shoulder injury at some point at UCLA and from then on all is deep throws just hung up there and ran out of steam. I thought the difference was pretty noticable at the time, from what I had seen of him in college to what I saw when he arrived in Dallas. Don't hear anyone talk about that though?

They were successful for a couple of years with Jones as QB. Many called him the best in the league early on in his career but he became injury prone because of the reckless way he played. That was when they began to fade. His career was finally ended by a neck injury after he signed with (was traded to?) the Rams I believe it was.

What about Kordell?

remember the Colorado/Michigan game.....he threw that ball 70-75 yds......

btw....notice how most of your cannons, and I am talking your long throwers, have avg accuracy.

I will say this about strong arms......Dan Marino had a great arm. However, the tightest spiral and hardest throw that I ever saw on a consistent basis came from Warren Moon.

All the QB's mentioned are right in line to my choices.

How could you guys forget Vick? Yeah, I know, he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn but he has a strong arm for sure.
