EPA employees warned to stop defecating in the hallways
POSTED AT 4:41 PM ON JUNE 25, 2014 BY NOAH ROTHMAN

In a development that attorney, Ace of Spades blogger, and TEMS regular Gabriel Malor might find lamentably familiar, employees with the Environmental Protection Agency were recently warned to keep their bathroom habits in the bathroom.

According to communications obtained by Government Executive, employees of a Denver, Colorado office of the EPA were admonished for what the publication described as “inappropriate bathroom behavior.”

* In the email, obtained by Government Executive, Deputy Regional Administrator Howard Cantor mentioned “several incidents” in the building, including clogging the toilets with paper towels and “an individual placing feces in the hallway” outside the restroom.

Apparently, this EPA office needed to “consult” with a workplace violence expert on the matter in order to ascertain that leaving human feces in office hallways was “very dangerous.”

When asked for a statement, EPA spokesman Richard Mylott refused to comment on what he called “ongoing personnel matters” at the Denver office.

This sounds like a disgruntled employee with a screw loose (to put it politely) acting out. Had similar occurrences become common while working room service at a prominent hotel as a youngin. They eventually caught the waitress on camera.

Pinellas police blotter: Alcohol fuels three unusual arrests
  • Times staff
Report: Woman tried to use patrol car as cab

Police said Heather Leigh McKean, 29, got into the back seat of a police car parked at First Avenue N and Second Street N just before 1 a.m.

The officer in the front seat, who was writing reports, told her "that she was mistaken and that this was not a taxi cab," an arrest report states.

McKean responded: "I don't care. Are you going to take me home? It's only four blocks."

The officer was going to give her a warning, but McKean dashed into traffic and "extended her middle finger" at police "after we told her to look out because she was running in front of a car," a report states.

22-pound house cat "with a history of violence" trapped an Oregon family -- and their dog -- in a bedroom until police arrived to save them.
The incident unfolded Sunday night in northwest Portland after a ferocious feline named Lux turned on its owners. It all started when the family's 7-month-old boy pulled the cat's tail. In response, the cat scratched the baby on the forehead. The boy's dad, Lee Palmer, told police that he "kicked the cat in the rear" as punishment.

And that's when the fur began to fly:

Man chokes to death at South Dakota hot dog eating contest

Published July 08, 2014
Associated Press

CUSTER, S.D. – A Fourth of July hot dog eating contest in western South Dakota turned tragic when a contestant choked to death.

Walter Eagle Tail, 47, of Custer, died at a hospital Thursday after attempts to save him at the scene failed, Custer County Sheriff Rick Wheeler told the Rapid City Journal.

"There was someone doing CPR when we arrived," Wheeler said. "He probably just suffocated. It got lodged in his throat and they (paramedics) couldn't get it out.

"It all happened within minutes," the sheriff said.

The Custer Chamber of Commerce, which sponsored the contest, canceled a pie-eating contest scheduled for Friday.

"We are at a loss for words," Chamber Executive Director Dave Ressler said. "We are mourning for Walter and his family right now."

Speed-eating competitions are popular over the Fourth of July weekend. Eight-time champion Joey "Jaws" Chestnut managed to eat 61 hot dogs in 10 minutes at an annual contest in Coney Island, New York, on Friday -- eight short of the record 69 he swallowed in the 2013 competition.

George Shea, chairman of Major League Eating, a competitive eating organization based in New York, said organizers do all they can to prevent casualties during contests.

"We always make sure it's in a controlled environment," Shea said. "We organize the entire thing around safety. (Just as) if it's football or hockey or auto racing, we approach it as a top priority."'

Funeral arrangements were pending for Eagle Tail, whom friends described as a fun-loving, kind and caring man.

"Walter was just being Walter, having fun when he entered this contest," said Ardis McRae. "He was just having a good time."

Ugh! I'm grossed out at the thought. lol

That is a pretty far fetched story. He claimed he ripped the crotch out of his shorts, stuffed the fabric in his mouth and then spit it out. I guess they weren't clean. lol

Connecticut Man Arrested After Stabbing Watermelon
BANTAM, Conn. — Jul 15, 2014, 8:15 AM ET
AP_logo_update_20130709.gif

A 49-year-old Connecticut man faces threatening charges after a woman told police he stabbed a watermelon in a passive-aggressive manner.

Police say the woman had gone to police on July 4 to report finding drugs, including marijuana, in Cervellino's tool box. He was not arrested.

They say she later returned home to find the watermelon on the counter with a butcher's knife in it. She reported that Cervellino then entered the room and began carving the watermelon. She called the incident passive-aggressive and menacing.

Man tries to kill spider, burns down house
by Jenn Gidman, Newser

We tried to warn you, spider-slaying arsonists. A Seattle house went up in flames last night after a tenant tried to flush out an eight-legged foe in his laundry room by setting it on fire using a lighter and spray paint, KOMO News reports.

A spokesman for the Seattle Fire Department says that the man couldn't put out the fire himself and that firefighters originally fought the fire from a distance because there was speculation of ammunition inside the home — that threat was later ruled out, according to KIRO-TV.

And in case you're wondering who would actually try to kill a spider this way: This isn't the first case to occur.

Facebook posts get deadbeat parents busted for not paying child support
rau-3.jpg

Money-Phone.jpg

john-mccroy-facebook-3.jpg

For a year and a half, Casey suffered through chemotherapy, spinal taps and dozens of hospital stays. He even had to learn to walk again with physical therapy.

And through it all his father has not been by his side.
Instead, he’s been on Facebook, bragging about how much money he makes at his job, showing off his new “family whip,” and boasting about having tickets to a Packers game. When FOX6 Investigator Meghan Dwyer confronted Rau about not paying support, he said he didn’t know his son was sick until last Christmas and he intends to start paying support.

But all of his bragging on social media is exactly why he’s now facing felony charges for failing to pay child support.

Police: Woman posted selfies in stolen dress
Stolen+Dress+Selfies.JPG

WEST FRANKFORT, Ill. (AP) -- Police investigating the theft of clothing and jewelry from a southern Illinois boutique say they arrested a woman after she posted Facebook photos of herself wearing one of the stolen items.

The store's co-owner, Kert Williams, says he posted about the stolen items on Facebook and that people who saw Williams' posting and those of Saxton made the connection and helped police.

WSIL-TV ( HTTP://******/1YLSEW6 ) reports that police arrested 27-year-old Danielle Saxton, of West Frankfort, earlier this month on misdemeanor retail theft charges. She's free on her own recognizance.
