If a few guys keep sliding, I'd gladly take a trade back. You could easily get a guy like Howard at say 40 and pick up an extra 3rd or even Bell around 45 and get a few more picks.

People are so scared to move down and I never understand why.

No one is scared of moving down. There's simply no reason to trade down just to acquire more picks. If you have a player you really like. You take him.

If you say, "oh, I can trade down and still get my guy" you run the risk of losing your guy and settling for two lesser players.

Most fans love trading down because they automatically assume more picks=better draft. They also have the idea that the teams see players like they do.

The key with jack as most posted is "IF"
And we don't know the "IF" but we will know what the answer is if we pick him

And now it gets a bit murky again. Andrews apparently examined Jack back in December. Jack said last week he was unsure he would need future surgery. Is Jack operating with new information that Andrews doesn't know about since the Schefter tweet is that Andrews last saw Jack 4 months ago?

This article makes it sound like Andrews gave him an updated status today:

Dr. James Andrews, who examined Myles Jack in December, told the UCLA LB today that he does not need micro-fracture surgery.

If I can move from 34 to say 40 and get a 3rd rounder, that 3rd rounder is valuable in this draft. There are going to be some quality DL in this draft sitting there in the 3rd.

I am all for trading down if a good deal is there.

Would rather trade a player like Leary for another third.

I've love to have him or Ogbah at 34. Then trade a 3 and 4 to get back into the second and get the other. :)

Well if a player is there that you have to have you take him. But if there are multiple players that you like and a good trade down is there, you take it.

For all you know the Cowboys could be sitting at 34 and like Bell, Howard, Billings, Spence and Fuller the same. Someone calls and says they give us a 3rd rounder and a pick at 40 to move up. Cowboys would be in pretty good shape that one of their 5 would still be there 6 picks later and now they have another 3rd round pick in a draft that will have a lot of quality DL still there in the 3rd.

It's just smart roster building.

I would take him if the team doctors approve, you don't see players like him often and especially not in the 2nd

I get that. What I am saying is that the tweet makes it out like the last time he actually looked at Jack was 4 months ago. A lot can change in 4 months with a knee.

The kid is still a big risk to me health wise. Talent is clear but if I get one or two years out of him and then his knee starts acting up............

take him, and then get J.Smith in the 3rd round...the LB corps in 2017 would be phenominal

Fine by me. I can do that too. But I just don't get the reaction of plugging your ears and screaming "lalalalalalalalalalala" every time the notion of a trade down comes up.

Now that Andrews signed off on the knee, I really like the pick.

Having him in the middle of the field covering guys would be a huge boon.

I have no problems with trading down, I was banging that drum hard with the 4th pick. But trading down just to trade down makes no sense to me. If Cowboys are targeting a player at the top of the 2nd, there stands to reason that the targeted player will not be available lower.

Or is this all because Jack is primed to be a Cowboy?

If Jack's knee issue is overblown and we can get a top 5 talent at pick 34 I would be very happy.

I agree even though I badly want a DE with the pick. If Jack can play at a high level for the length of his first contract, I can't say I'd be unhappy to get one of the top players in this draft at 34.

Myles Jack - LB - Player
Dr. James Andrews told UCLA LB Myles Jack he will not need microfracture surgery.

Andrews first examined Jack's knee in December. Jack seemed uncertain about whether he'd need surgery when discussing it earlier this week, but Andrews doesn't see the injury as a long-term issue. Other teams may feel differently but Andrews is well-respected in sports medicine and his name carries weight. It would be a surprise if Jack isn't one of the first names announced on Day 2.

If THE Dr. James Andrew said it (the doctor who has operated on more professional sports players than almost any other doctor practicing today), then the Cowboys had better run the card up to the podium with Jack's name on it.

I trust Dr. Andrew's expertise and opinion.

I doubt the Cowboys would trade down just for ***** and giggles. If they trade down, I suspect they feel good about the players that likely would be there.

If the Cowboys are confident Jack is healthy and they like him, then yeah, they should take him. But if they like a pool of guys at 34 and they can trade back a few spots and still likely land one of their guys, then it's a smart move IMO.

What's odd is if James Andrews does have this diagnosis on Jack, why the heck is he still on the board?
