We're in the crazy season of NFL rumors and tea-leaf reading. For instance, CNN/SI's Peter King is reading Tim Tebow and his agent's refusal to talk meaning Tebow will go between draft slots 28 and 45 (I agree.)

Other reports say the Dolphins are asking for a third-round pick for Justin Smiley. Huh? They don't want Smiley because of injuries. Yet they're supposedly asking other teams for a third-round pick for him? No chance of getting that. As I said when Smiley was told he was gone, they'll be lucky to get anything for him at all.

The most interesting rumor for Dolphins interests is that Dez Bryant will work out for the Cowboys, according to ESPN.com Joe W. tipped us off to this one.

Dez Bryant won't be there for the Cowboys at No. 27. He might not be there for the Dolphins at No. 12. But if he is, doesn't this workout support another trade between the Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and his former employee, Bill Parcells?

Swap of first- and third-round picks and the Dolphins get Miles Austin?

Essentially, it'd be Austin, the No. 27 pick and Cowboys third-round pick to the Dolphins for No. 12 pick (Bryant) and Dophins' higher third-round pick.

Looks too good to be true, meaning it probably is.

Then again, Parcells and Jones made two draft-day trades in 2008. A Dolphins' fourth-round pick went for Anthony Fasano and Akin Ayodele. The teams swapped sixth-round picks and the Dolphins got Jason Ferguson. Those were pretty good deals for the Dolphins.

Yesterday Jerry said Austin isn't going anywhere. I believe that over any grassy knoll.

That is such baloney. I don't think we would trade him for two first rounders straight up.

I sure hope this is just speculation--I like Miles and hope we keep him......he has a bunch of experience and he is only 25 years.

We have him tendered to a 1st and 3rd. That means we want to have TWO 1sts if we lose him. Why in the blue hell would we give them Austin to just swap 1sts? We need theirs plus ours.

Another blogger with the "Jerry is an idiot" angle.

And even better, this one has the genius Parcells taking him to the cleaners as well.

Nope...Bad trade, just give the season away before it even starts. We need Austin...no way does Dez even come close to replacing him.

That's a ridiculous trade. If Austin had to go--which he won't--we would take (not swap our picks for) Miami's #1 and #3.

I'd do it if they'd take Romo off our hands as well. Whaddya say gang. A fresh start?

And those other trades?? They were pretty good? None of those players are still with the team. Fasano was a huge failure last year, Adoyele is a free agent, and Ferguson just got suspended.

But only if we could get Chad Pennington in return.

We'd probably have to throw in Witten also for the dolphins to consider it.

That does not make sense. Dallas trades Austin, a first and a third for Miami's first and third? Why would they do that? It may make more sense to trade Austin for Miami's first and third.

That makes absolutely no sense. Why trade away a WR who the Boys have invested in for a few years and who finally broke out and only get in return a WR with some issues and who hasn't proven anything at this level. Moving up 15 spots in the 3rd is not worth it.
