Sunday Morning Scaries - Hatcher calls out Romo, Team

Hatcher is to be commended for doing something that needed to be done for ages on this team. Team personnel needs to be held accountable for their miscues, whether it's the QB, the coaches or anyone else. It's about time someone had the stones to step up and say what needs to be said regardless of their standing.

Yards per rushing attempt doesn't take down and distance into account, so a 1-yard gain on 3rd and 1 is considered less successful than a 2-yard gain on 1st and 10. It's one of the most misleading stats in football, and has absolutely no correlation to winning.

We haven't been that bad in the red zone in our last 10 games when we have run, with 44.4% of our red zone rushes resulting in a 1st down or TD going into today's game. That was 2nd in the NFL, in fact. Having a poor running game has long been a problem of this team, but another problem, at least in the red zone during that time, has been not running enough. We were dead last in percentage of red zone plays that were runs, going into today's game.

Football Outsiders does have statistics that correspond rush attempts to down and distance scenarios and we were 28th in Rushing DVOA after Week 2.

Not sure what your point is here as it relates to the red zone run results I posted. I'm not trying to say we're a good running team overall, just that the success rate on our red zone attempts in the last 10 (now 11) games put us at or near the top of the league. IOW, the perception that we can't run in the red zone is incorrect, if percentage of 1st downs and TD means anything.

Good for Hatch. The really nice thing is that he's not just talking it either. He's backing it up by playing very well on the field. He was a factor again yesterday and that was great to see.
