Owners like Jerry Jone$ has pimped the league to levels it's difficult to maintain in a society which the NFL players demographic isn't well represented amongst society.

Some of the same reasons the NBA lost some of its appeal to larger audiences.

The personal conduct and personalities is a huge turnoff for much of America and why Goodell is taking such efforts to control.
Is it really? Considering who won the Presidency I would question if this was true

Man it got better ratings than any Super Bowl from 1988-2010 except 1994. That's not too bad.

Now look at the "share" column. 73 percent of all TVs in use were watching the Super Bowl which is the highest since 1983.

Go Super Bowl!

Nice try, Peak time surpassed any other superbowl

Nothing to see here
Ratings are down 5% from just two years ago.......that is not good and continued a downward trend that lasted all season and the playoffs....the NFL needs the ratings to go up, not down.....their rights fees are thru the roof....they don't want to hear "M'kay"

But keep pulling random numbers out of your butt

Because I like hearing that the NFL is being punished by it's fans for trying so hard in becoming a **** league.

My distaste for the NFL is growing. My distaste for the NBA (a sport that I absolutely love) reached it's pinnacle in 2005 when I completely gave up watching the NBA. The NFL is racing to that point as fast as they possibly can.

Currently, the NHL is my favorite professional sport to watch. It was a distant 4th at one point.

I agree completely although the NHL has always been top two for me.

The interesting thing is that the NHL is the only sport where it has become tradition for fans to enthusiastically boo the long time commisioner every time he shows his face.

The ratings were still way down.....it got a 45.3 which is the lowest since 2010 and second straight decline from a high of 47.5 in 2015

Overall viewers were OK and 18-49 was solid but the ratings were definitely down

True, but it doesnt matter, it is still the highest rated show of the year .
a 2 point drop in demo, or a few mil drop isnt going to affect anything.
if the demo went down to 35 or 25 then it would get their attention, or down to 80 mil.
Or if over several years it kept going down, then maybe something changes.

But as it is the owners and networks, and even goodell, are just sitting around counting how much $ they made this year.
Take Blank for example, sure he lost the SB, but how much did he make this year? 800 mil or so? what a bummer lol.

people go on about jerry and years of futility, but meanwhile he has amassed 4 billion or so.
The money makes it easier to not be a winner.

The TV contracts pay for the expense of having a team, and that makes all stadium revenue profit, along with official cowboy gear,
any merchandise with logo, the att ,pepsi and other deals like that , papa johns, The stadium does events as well as games.
So even losing teams make 100's of millions per year, it is a "no way to lose" business.

They only lose on the field.

This why the NFL is so concerned about their image, and will cater to any big network sponsors, like beer and cars etc.
They want to keep them happy, because they pay the networks, who then pay the NFL, and basically it is them that pay for the
teams and players, so that all other income is profit for owners.

These are fairly close, and if you study ratings, which i have for tv shows, they all go up and down, and some trend downward
steadily each year .
I look at these and see no downward trend, 2017 is higher than 2016 in viewers, and the demo has gone down since the high in 2015.
But at these levels the demo isnt as important as it is in lower rated shows.
If a network tv show has a demo of 3.5 it is considered a hit show, the SB is 45.3 !
If a network tv show has 8-15 mil viewers, it is a hit show , and Ncis is I think the most viewers, with around 18 mil.
Walking dead has the highest combined ratings with like 13 mil and 5.0 demo, not sure what it is currently, but
it is the highest rated tv show in both categorys, but pales when compared to a SB.

Plus Networks can spin the numbers so it seems better than what it is, and they still sell all the ad space, at ridiculous amounts.
Companies make special ads for the SB lol , and probably just want to have a ad on during a sb, for prestige.
It is a cash cow, a huge cash cow, so minor drops in ratings will have no effect.
