Surtain-might not be in the team's plans

I think they draft a position much closer to the football.
Marvin Wilson at 44 sounds good. The DT from Florida st..and also in the late rounds there is a kid named Tedarius Slaton. Better go watch his tape. He is almost a carbon copy of Wilson.

Slaton isn't going to last nearly as long as some are saying, I don't think.

where is he being mocked at? I see him as a late 2nd but would be just fine with him at 44. Slater at 10, then Slaton at 44...altho I prefer Richie Grant at 44. He likely will go much higher.

This is nonsense. Surtain is a cover-3 CB starter kit.
iu
^^our current db's...SO YEAH Give me Surtain. I'm ok with that.

If we miss out on Farley at 10, wonder if just chance it and just try and get one of the Georgia Corners in the 2nd instead of taking Surtain or Horn in the 1st.

Since our new DB Coach, Joe Whitt was hired, all I have heard is he covets big/long corners, with elite speed. Bryan Broaddus, even mentioned it on the draft show the other day. Before he even mentioned it, I've heard the same thing a few times when reading up on both Quinn/Whitt after they were hired.

This suggests (speculation), that Patrick Surtain's skillset might not be the type of corner they covet. They already have a quality corner who can cover the so called X Receivers, who has speed limitations in Trevon Diggs, they may want to pair him up with more of a elite, speed type on the other side. Players like Farley, Melifonwu (who had a terrific week at the Senior Bowl) are better fits. Something to watch during the process.
Length n Speed...if that's what they look for Chris Westry should be Whitts pet cat.

You would think so and he has had a few years to develop. Wonder if they also move Robinson back to CB.

I think they should move Robinson back to CB asap. Will McClay likes big CBs too, so they all should be on the same page.

Nolan's scheme used his safeties like zone corners, I think Quinn/Whitt will see him more as a CB in his cover 3 scheme.

Well folks, here's what I'm going to tell you. Go back and look at what Seattle has drafted in the first round, over the last several years. They took Thomas in the first round in 2010. Now that make sense because he's the prototype Safety you need to make this scheme work but since then, no corner has been taken before the 4th round in the draft.

The keys for this scheme are not Corners. Been saying this for awhile but nobody seems to want to believe it. I would not get my hopes up for a CB in the first round.

I do think the Quinn hire could change the draft strategy a bit. I wonder how high a guy like Moehrig could rise in this draft. Not quite Earl Thomas, but for a team that needs a high level FS I would not be surprised if he is ranked much higher than most think.

Speed is nice. But being smart, instinctual players are what we need.

Lewis ran a 4.47 and Awuzie ran a 4.37. But that doesn’t translate to much on Sunday’s.

Im not worried about Surtains speed at all. Toss a solid FS and watch him own his side of the field

This ^^^^^ think wayy too much is made about speed. I was listening to Dolphin CB Xavier Howard ( led the league in interceptions) talk about he could turn a 4.3 WR into a 4.5 using a certain technique. My only concern about OP post is if both players make it to 10...them drafting the player that's a better fit, not the best player. In other, the exact thing we got burned taking Taco over JT Watt. So my point is to take the BEST player let the rest take care of itself.

Then what are doing at 10?

Couple of comments:

-From recent history with the Cowboys front office, we have seen them show major interest with elite athletes, the ones who have the highest sparq scores.

-I do like Patrick Surtain. He is a very polished corner who should make an immediate impact. He maybe one of the safest prospects in the entire class, but he has limited upside, in which he may never become a true #1 CB. Many believe he lacks the speed, quickness to cover the shifty receivers and has average ball skills. The comp I hear most about Surtain is Bryon Jones. He is a terrific player, but might not get much better.

-Many NFL Teams draft elite traits over production. They believe if the natural talent is there, they will coach them up to reach their high potentials. Farley, for instance, might be the most riskiest CB out of the top 3, cause he is more of a projection of his high potential. He is a very similar prospect to CJ Henderson who the Cowboys loved last season.

-The Joe Whitt Factor. Keep in mind, Whitt was a Packer Assistant for many years under MM. You look at the two drafts after he departed, what type of corners his team has drafted: Greedy Williams with the Browns, AJ Terrell with the Falcons, both players have great size/length and possess elite speed.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t pick up Kevin King. I know, he was terrible in the NFC Championship game. But he was drafted and spent a season under Joe Whitt. Has the size and length they seek.

They could essentially sign King and Kazee, draft Farley/Surtain and have a improved secondary.

Get a bad corner because he has length. Wonder why we suck
