You have good common sense Hos, and a way of bringing your point to the fore -- I get what you're saying ...and your right.

However, I was looking more in terms of big name players becoming targets for upcoming athletes who'd like to make a name for themselves, by dunking the ball in a big-name players face, or trying to get the best of a Big-name player by being a Little bit too aggressive in their performance. Not suggesting to include a "baby" clause in player contracts, just something as a disclaimer that places the onus on the player to us judgement in deciding which outside athletic event they choose to compete.

Does that make sense to you?
You know what? Anyone who has ever played a lot of basketball has had someone "dunk in their face." I've never seen the basketball shoot through the nets with the force of a mortar and give someone a concussion.

Most contracts have stuff in them about unecessary dangerous activity. There's a pretty big difference between say sky diving and basketball.

Jerome Brown was killed in a car accident. Would you expect the Eagles to institute a Limousine only mode of transportation clause?

Lee Trevino got struck by lightning playing golf. No golf.

Joe Delaney drowned saving 2 kids. No being a hero.

There's simply such a thing as overboard in thinking. This is an example. It's basketball, not hunting Al Qaeda terrorists with a flyswatter.

As I said I don't care what he does as long as he comes into camp and does what is asked of him and causes no problems for the Cowboys if he can do that then no problem.

With respect Hos ...here's a couple of housekeeping caveats that I thought need mentioning ...

- I agree with what you're saying. Let's just put that right up on top of the table so we understand that ...believe me -- I hear you talking and it makes perfect sense.

- I'm speaking in general; not about Mr. Owens ...he could play hockey and it wouldn't disturb me (I hope my honesty doesn't offend; I've always tried to give honest and open perspectives on the Zone).

That said, ...

Basketball dunking is cool, and it's fun, but it's also quite dangerous! To raise to the height of a "dunk" ...the rim must reach below the wrist...and that means a player has to jump...20 cm higher.

Dunking is extremely dangerous ...continual slam dunking can place the pressurized backboard to shatter and collapse -- it's happened.

Again Hos, I do get what you're saying, but read this article link, then let's discuss further ...http://www.webmd.com/content/article/92/101639.htm?z=1728_00000_1000_nb_04

I'll be around ...or not:eek::

Do you guys realize how many football players play in charity basketball games? I saw Pup in one down just before he blew out his achilles. He actually thought he had skills. :)

Anyway, TO has always participated in some form of basketball in the offseason. It's his second love.

To me, this is much ado about nothing. I'm not even a TO supporter, but he could sneeze and some of you would accuse him of infecting the lockerroom w/bacteria.

It took 26 posts to get to sanity. In the past this would have been nipped before post 5.

...Does being in top physical shape, and football condition mean you are in top physical shape enough to play any sport. If your answer is yes/no ...explain.

...the Jeopardy Show music is being played while we await your responses ...:D

It's not like he's a lineman, he's a WR. They share many of the same attributes as basketball players. That's why Antonio Gates is so successful as a TE. Sprint up field, sprint up court. Catch a pass on a slant route or a curl, block out and rebound. Hail mary for a jump ball, go up for a jump ball. Cut on an out route, crossover with the basketball.

The respect is mutual. You know that I hope.

Out of curiosity, when these basketball backboards explode from these vicious, wrist breaking, gorilla dunks how many people have died? Is it more or less than those who die in plane crashes?

If it is less then I say allow players to play basketball because you can't ground them in the off season. They fly everywhere and that being more dangerous should raise the red flag more than basketball.

Seriously PT, it is okay to back off a stance once you realize it isn't as dire as you originally thought.

Cardio wise, yes. Maybe not at the top levels, but a charity game is hardly the NBA.

Ever watch the And1 guys play "street ball?" Escalade isn't exactly in top shape. He plays the game rather well for a big man.

Hot Sauce and the Professor aren't exactly going to be doing situps for reporters in their driveway. They play it rather well.

Playing a sport well isn't always about being Jan Michael Vincent in an Early 70's Disney movie.

Nice catch.

Jerome Brown + Reggie White = Reggie Brown. Somehow it all added up.

Uh, no it didn't...

:abuseme:

Thanks.

Other than that gaffe, I hope my stance has made sense.

It did make sense ...and I did know it was Jerome versus Reggie. Reggie is too young to drive:rolleyes: Gaffney on the other hand ...;)

Just the fact that this thread is 6 pages long pretty much sums how out of proportion these TO things are. Weather the guy is playing basketball or running windsprints makes no difference to me. He'll be ready to go come opening day, he always is. Skins fans, keep trolling...keep telling yourself he's the end of our franchise. Jealous breeds envy.
