I think his natural lackadaisical body language is what rubbed Marinelli the wrong way. I can pretty much guarantee you that everytime he didn't make a play he was being screamed at for lack of effort.

But that all falls on Marinelli. You got to know who you're drafting to know what to expect of them. Where do you prefer to play is a easily answered question.

I always liked Taco, because I'm a fan of taller frames and longer arms. But if D.Law was so good how come he couldn't play as the RDE?

They supposedly tried moving him in the draft. My guess is they thought he would market himself for their benefit more than he did.

I do get a chuckle out of the idea we were just oozing with talent on both of our lines in the offseason. Nothing happened. And here we are.

I don't see any players having great success in the schemes the Cowboys are running.

On offense the blocking scheme carried over Bill Callahan's coaching for a couple of years after he departed and his assistant became the OL coach but now the scheme is not good.

Columbo is probably a good motivation type coach and maybe good at teaching individual technique, but he played in Houck's man scheme which always relied on players winning 1-on-1. They still run both man and zone like they did with Callahan, but the specifics of how they run it is the problem. They are obsessed with reach blocks which just make the OLineman's job more difficult and based on how the defense aligns, sometimes makes the assigned blocks impossible.

It's a similar problem on defense. They struggle with teams that have clever run blocking schemes like the Rams. Now other teams are just copying what the Rams did to the Cowboys.
When the scheme has a DT taking himself outside the hash marks and there are no DTs between the hash marks when the RB cuts back inside, no amount of added talent at DT is going to solve that problem.

We fans get to pick the DL players but Marinelli is still the DL coach...
Hey look, we have the reincarnation of Reggie White & Jerome Brown with Aaron Donald & Fletcher Cox all outside the hash marks flexing their muscles while the RB cuts back to the middle with 1 LB being blocked by 2 OLinemen.

Don't know why we gave up on him.
Must have been something we didn't hear about.

Taco was obsessed with what "they" said about him by which he meant fans/media.

In interviews that was all the could focus on. "Don't matter, they'll hate me anyway". In the last interview I saw of him with the Cowboys (this preseason) he kept repeating how "they" hated him to the point that some player off camera blurted out "but I love you Taco". The other player seemed to be making fun of Taco more than supporting him, but that's just my perception.

They've done that for years. In the cases where it's impossible, you'd expect an audible.

That interview, to me, took place after Taco had made up his mind that he wanted out. That's why he was sulking.

He was a head case.

That said he did not fit here. Perhaps it was because he did not get with the program. A program that quite honestly is not all that good.

That's when you need your LBs to fit their gaps.

It’s so odd, considering that Marinelli is a “master motivator” and the GOAT DL coach.

I’m so confused

Yeah, I was going to add that in. It's not like "the program", or the old man running it, have been beyond reproach.

Where is Hill? Is he still on the team?

He has been inactive. He should be active now that Crawford is on IR.

I’m not saying Hill will be a bust. Just throwing shade at all the historical claims some have made about Rod being the ultimate motivator who can create turn scrubs into good players

We have seen NONE of that since he has been there.

He was MartyB but on defense.

MartyB had some success with other teams but never lived up to his physical ability because he was a knucklehead.

I remember attending training camp in MartyB's 2nd season and some days he looked like the best TE that I've even seen but other days he was not interesting in practicing.

The drafting, player acquisition and salary cap management had been going better the the past few years than at any time since Jimmy departed.

SJones or somebody has managed to limit Jerry in those areas, but the decision on Garrett has continued to hamper them.

Jimmy/Parcells/Belichick type HCs would never let a player like Taco come in and think he was a big-shot from day one.

The other type of HC is Sean McVay that might not be the tyrant like Jimmy but he has been ahead of the curve on the X & O side of things.

Garrett is neither. He would be a good middle-manage for some company and managed to maintain some sanity in the locker-room which Wade Phillips and Campo failed to accomplish but at some point the team must have a strong HC.
