There are different styles of pass rushers.

Taco's sack against the Rams is a perfect example of the style that he fits into.

He used a combination of length, power and quickness.

Some people think all pass rusher should be like Von Miller and just blow by OTs on the outside.

In reality few pass rushers are as fast as Von Miller but have success due to a combination of power, length and quickness (JPP, Greg Hardy, etc..).

We had one for a decade that was as athetic as Miller. I think its led some to expect any edge rusher to fit the Ware prototype

Exactly right.

He's not a DeMarcus Ware type of pass rusher.

Agreed! If he can develop a repertoire of moves, he can be a productive passrusher. Everyone wants the next DeMarcus Ware, but those players are only acquired with high draft picks, generally.

Our fan base is spoiled, and think players like Demarcus Ware grow from trees. Just wait until Dak is getting towards the end of his career, we're going to have tons of idiot fans who think it will be easy to replace him, since we went seamlessly from an UDFA in Tony Romo, to a 4th rounder in Prescott.

Yes, Taco is a different type of rusher, never going to have that quick twitch get off like Ware.

He will need to win with his length, short area quickness and power (something the team specific weight training program should develop in time) as you mention along with a new repertoire of moves as others have noted.

I am not displeased with Taco thus far, he just needs more development, instruction and playing time.

It is way too early to categorize him either way.

I like a DE duo of Taco and Irving for the next 5+ years. Gregory can't be relied on anything more than a situational pass rusher at best.

Taco isn't slow of the edge... He just doesn't have Ware's or Von Miller's type of burst.

Once Taco has some success with those inside moves, he'll be able to gain the edge on occasion. Sort of opposite of the 4.55 forty edge guys who have to develop inside moves because tackles start to compensate for the outside stuff.

Yes, he is not quick twitch as stated.

A 1.65-1.69 10-yard split is really good for a 6'6", 275lb. guy. That sack shows he has more than enough speed to get to the QB once he figures out the rest of it.

Blimey!
He is a perfectly good pick.
Give him a year to hone his football cahones.

Even if Taco is a perfectly "good" pick, Cowboys should still exhaust all opportunities to bring in the quick twitch Von Miller/Demarcus Ware type EDGE rushers.

Well its new school now, a guy like Bosa and such is confusing....why is he effective at all.

We ran the ball when noone else was running the ball, so they weren't prepared for it. In basketball, small ball sounds great and wonderful, til there is an actual big man in the league that can play......Embiid will be a problem.

In football, speed rushers are all the rage, but who do we have that is Reggie White, Bruce Smith, and such....well noone. Give it time, sports haven't changed that much, just the people who are playing it are playing like lil girls. Give me a grown man, millennials think they are running football (yeah I've seen high school girly games), but we can change this game by not only running the ball but using actual size in a DE.

I just happy to see progress from the HOF game to this past game. Rams game should be a good confidence booster to Charlton and shows the things he is working on and learning are starting to pay off. I agree he is not a Von Miller or Ware but he has strengths of his own he can play to and become a very productive player both as a pass rusher and run stopper.
