I wouldn't mind him being an end for us and maybe some spot duty at DT. He could give a nice push at end though.

Suspended tackle says he expects to play for Dallas

Tank Johnson said Monday night he expects to play for the Dallas Cowboys upon returning from his eight-game NFL suspension.

"I'm here to work some things out. I'm looking here for a fresh start," Johnson said when reached in his room at the hotel where the Cowboys stay before home games.

Earlier on Monday, a high-ranking team source said there have been lengthy discussions among members of the team's coaching staff and owner Jerry Jones about Johnson's off-field problems and his playing ability.

The Cowboys or any team would be able to sign Johnson during his suspension but he cannot work out or have contact with a team until he serves his suspension in its entirety.

Although Johnson has never played nose tackle, Phillips has extolled the flexibility of his 3-4 defensive scheme to accommodate players of different sizes and styles. The Cowboys lost starter Jason Ferguson for the season when the nose tackle suffered a torn right biceps tendon in Dallas' season-opening win against the Giants.

Johnson was waived by the Chicago Bears on June 25, three days after he was stopped by police in Arizona driving 40 mph in a 25-mph zone. Johnson was not charged with any crime. He was suspended by the league for violating probation on a gun charge that stemmed from a raid on his home. Johnson began serving a two-month jail term in March.

I dont think he is in town to give a symposium on being a good citizen and contributing to society.

He's there to make one of those court-ordered public appearances... he's giving a speech, the title reportedly is "Gun Control Means Being Able To Hit Your Target"...

We became a mercenary outfit when we signed TO, so we might as well sign this guy too. He'll probably sign what amounts to a two-month contract, and if he doesn't work out, sayonara.

Well TO is a merc as would be Tank, but most of our team is homegrown. I wouldnt call us a merc team any more than I would call the Patriots a merc team

Who cares what we're called as long as it's not "losers" or "cheats."

I've read much about the impending acquisition of Tank Johnson but very little about the quality of his play? Is he a good player...or what?

In short, he's a physical freak (4.7 40 time at 309 lbs.) that has had nice production over the past two years (8.5 sacks over past two seasons).

Those numbers top any of Dallas' current linemen...by a wide margin.

I'm an advocate of the second amendment. I say that Dallas sign him!:laugh2:
