Report: Cowboys to bring in Tank Johnson for physical
Irving, TX (Sports Network) - The Dallas Cowboys will reportedly bring in suspended defensive tackle Tank Johnson for a physical on Tuesday.
According to the Dallas Morning News, citing multiple sources, the Cowboys would like to sign the troubled Johnson for added depth along their defensive line. Dallas starting nose tackle Jason Ferguson is out for the year after tearing his right biceps muscle in the opening game of the season.
Johnson, who is serving the third week of an eight-game suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy, was released by the Chicago Bears in June.
Johnson was sentenced to 120 days in jail on March 15 for violating probation from a gun charge in 2005. He was released on good behavior after serving half of the sentence.
Last December, Johnson was arrested on misdemeanor weapons charges after police raided his home and found several guns. The raid resulted in six misdemeanor counts of possession of a firearm without a firearm owner's ID card.
The three-year pro out of Washington is eligible to return from his suspension after Week 8, and if he signs with Dallas, he could play against the Philadelphia Eagles on November 4.
Originally a second-round pick in the 2004 NFL Draft, Johnson posted 26 tackles and 3 1/2 sacks in 14 regular-season games last year, helping the Bears to the Super Bowl. He has 63 tackles and nine sacks for his career.
