Tanking Doesn't Work!

Look, guys, teams that are losing trade away players that aren't going to be around anyway all the time. They tank for better draft position and for future picks.

You do not tank by telling your players not to play. Ever. That is not how it works.

cowboys not tank ing any way they just stink. browns tanked. dolphins tanked. at least when u tank u can get a lot of draft picks for ur talented player. no this is not tank ing any way.

Would you put all that into an algebra equation?

I thought Dak was the Cowboys QB? He could be good trade bait.

Me do algebra? I married a math teacher!

But if you're really into that sort of thing...this is the Massy-Thaler paper (paper isn't the right word it's 63 pages), with formulas, charts, tables, and explanations, a brain buster in PDF form. Still working through it.

Yeah, i say most of the time if you pick #1 overall, it is because you are just a BAD team and need more than the number one draft pick to have a successful following year. Will take a few more years. Sometimes if you are a team with some talent and just had considerable injuries and bad luck and wind up with the top pick, you get the player you really need the most on a talented team. I would say Dallas is average team at best now, the top pick will make a difference...but remember it is the top pick on each round, plus they have additional picks in top three rounds. So this could make them a pretty good team. Now if the coaching knows what to do with this talent and put them in position to succeed, we got something here. This draft will tell us if Dallas is on its way back......or will it be a five year rebuilding plan.. Hoping its the former.

They traded away their best players, Runny. Got a host of draft picks for them. Tunsil, Stills, and Minkah. Got at least an extra 1 and 2 in the next draft.

Trading away your best players is tanking.
Okay. I suppose if you can get better players by getting rid of your best players, mid-season, it's tanking. Were these one to one trades, or were they getting multiple picks for these players? I assume it was the latter, in which case it seems like a smart deal that nobody could blame them for.

1,1,2 for Tunsil and Stills. 1 for Minkah.

Might have been more, don't remember.

Yeah,
I'd say they did pretty well in setting themselves up for future success.
Surprised at the lack of knowledge on this board regarding non Cowboy teams, their rosters and current events surrounding said rosters.
The lack of knowledge is showing itself quite often.
False assumption on my part I guess.

Some people have other interests besides football. I'm a Cowboys fan, and I watch other games too, but I don't follow the day to day operations of any other team. I've got other things to do...things I find more important.

Yeah, I'm finding it shocking. I really was speechless the first time I saw someone proclaim that the spot you're picking in doesn't matter. Very strange stuff.

Someone said it doesn't matter which pick in the draft you have?

Yeah,
I probably wouldn't be the one you'd catch glued to any tv's on the weekend either but I guess I've always managed to stay current on college and pro football current events, that's all.

My issue is with fans that are rooting for us to lose.
I’m not sure it really matters. To me it’s not about rooting to lose . Our team is so bad right now we will lose without tanking.

The benefit of losing though is something to root for with getting the higher picks. It’s like the shining light in the doom and gloom of the season.

The NFL draft is set up to help the lesser teams get better. The worse your season is the better chance you have to bring in talent.

Yeah,
I can't even one up ya there, lol. What would be the internet message board version of speechless? Ghost, ain't it? I'd be ghost after reading something like that for sure.

There’s a difference between being a bad team and tanking vs being a decent team with a massive amount of injuries tanking....

Wonder why 2016 was so good?
