Taylor Decker reporting his eligibility to the refs

Actually, it’s not a waste of time. The illegal formation was called based on 70 being the eligible target and not 68.

The officials put out a report detailing the penalties.
Oh I understand. I just think the national outrage against the officials is hilarious but whenever the Cowboys get screwed everyone shrugs and says thats football.

This feels like being on the other end of the 2006 playoff game in Seattle.

When Jason Witten got a 1st and goal, the officials decided he was short when he wasn't, then Dallas had to kick a field goal. And we know how that went........

Well… bottom line is Jimmy’s in the ring and had a speech as perfect as his hair, Mike has issues doing math (see clock management just north of 2 minutes) and game situational management (see trying to run out the clock by calling pass plays), we still really can’t run the ball, Detroit mucked up the end of the game by procedurally making this way more difficult than it needed to be, Dan Campbell’s stupid trumped Mike’s very dumb but he’s luckily getting a pass due to the officiating, welcome to this 5th seed as the Eagles are viewing their next two games as preseason games (literally just said by Mike Quick on the Eagles pre-game show), and I’m putting this to bed and looking forward to the next game.

I’m making a shredded chicken and Gnocchi soup while tossing back a few cold ones and revving-up for the New Year. Have a happy one!

The tape shows him walking over to the official before the play. As Aikman said, there is no reason for him to do that unless he’s reporting. I’ll take it but we got that one gift wrapped. It’s about time a bad call went our way.
So Penei sewell was also reporting eligible? Because according to this logic he was there also and he has no reason to be there unless he’s reporting

Exactly. This was a case of the Lions getting cute and trying to confuse the Cowboys. No reason for 3 guys to approach the ref.

It was simply an I'll conceived and poorly executed sequence by the Lions. I don't blame Campbell for having the balls to go for the win but there's no question there were at least two legitimate infractions on the play.

Okay, thanks for the info. So let’s go on the premise the ref messed up. Still the Lions had a 25 second heads up he messed up and could have corrected him. I’m not saying it’s their job to correct him but they did have an opportunity when they heard the announcement about 70 but not 68.
The Ref is not sworn to secrecy, there's no player/ref confidentiality. It is the player/team's responsibility to be clear with the refs with their intentions. The announcement was made public over the PA system and a Lions player, coach or assistant should have caught that if it was not correct and corrected the ref or at worse they would have had ample time to change their playcall in the huddle. It's the refs responsibility to make the correct call, but it is the team's responsibility that the ref understands their intentions.

What the Lions had here was

Good summary!

Nope, just part of the designed confusion they created on purpose trying to trick everyone. They got exactly what they deserved. Their whole plan was to confuse everyone and expect the officials wouldn’t have the guts to throw a flag at a point that could determine the game.

there's no audio to the video, so how would anyone else outside know what was verbally reported ..??

Irrelevant evidence , imo

There’s a video on this forum that confirms it was announced for all to hear. Lions had a full 25 second playclock to correct the refs before the play was run.
My comment was made immediately after the game. If more information has become available, so be it.

They do know what was practiced & planned all week though. What about Decker himself? Maybe if the ref had bothered looking at him standing 3 ft away rather than 70 coming across the field he might have gotten the right number.
I'm still waiting for someone to splain to me why 3 linemen needed to go over to the ref if only one of them was reporting. Until someone tells me otherwise I will stand by my assertion that the Lions were trying to get cute by sending a bunch of guys over to confuse the defense about who was reporting and it backfired. The fact of the matter is the defense has to be notified if someone with a lineman's number is eligible and it is the lineman's responsibility to make sure the ref announces HE is the one who is eligible. Ask Chuma Edoga who cost us a TD against the Eagles for not reporting formally.

Isn’t this rich?

All the conspiracy crew have suddenly become NFL Rulebook aficionados.

Nope.. we have always been about the fair and equitable application of the rules.. Period. You know like if their DE tries to trip our running back we don't expect the flag to be on us.. Did you?
