Taylor Happily Redo Contract To Expedite Trade To Dallas..

Do you not believe it Hos?

It sounds reasonable.....like when we got Haley......helped the young guys win the Super Bowls.
No, I don't buy it at all.

I haven't paid attention to Taylor but is he a 3-4 OLB? If he is not, then what good is he?

If you look at last years level of play, I would keep Ellis for more than just that. Ellis appears to be a good teacher to the younger guys, and Ellis is one year younger.

Now, that said. Last year Ellis had a breakout year and I believe that was because he was much fresher by his limited training camp and he didn't actually play as many downs with Spencer getting playing time. Now, imagine Jason Taylor in that situation. Taylor is far and away more talented than Ellis. I believe if you put Taylor in that position, he could be more dominating.

With Ellis' whinning all the time and Taylor being known as a leader on the team. Team him back up with Thomas, and this could be huge.

If he redoes his contract to fit even better than Ellis and it's a straight up trade, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Except Haley was like 28 when we got him.

Taylor is 34.

6 years is a long time in football.

This is a tough call... maybe Taylor has more of the intangibles over Greg... who knows... Taylor is STILL elite... I dont know that Greg was ever close to elite...

The issue about Taylor and his age... he is prob in same class as TO when it comes to that.... an EXCEPTION to the rule. Haley had back problems in his early-mid 30's if I am not mistaken.

First Zach Thomas now Jason Taylor, is there some reason we think that aging players from the worst team in the NFL will help make this team better?

I like what Greg Ellis did on the field last year. He missed the first quarter of the season and still had 12.5 sacks. He seemed to get into the backfield often, and caused a few big turnovers. He knows the system and is well regarded int he locker room.

Can someone explain to me why Jason Taylor would be a better fit here?

mostly because he's not on the team now and many people posting have heard about the great taylor for the last decade and must have him.

logic need not apply.

Umm, I don't know, maybe because he is a better player? My grandmother could have gotten 10 sacks last year playing on the other side of Ware.
:laugh2: agreed

Ellis one of the 10 most disgruntled

Albert Breer E-mail News tips
At least that's what my buddy Tom Curran of NBCSports.com thinks. Here's his take on the player with the seventh biggest gripe league-wide ...

7) Greg Ellis, OLB, Dallas Cowboys: Ellis' is a different case. He showed up for OTAs but then bailed because he was upset with the number of repetitions he's getting in practice. Anthony Spencer, the heir apparent to the 33-year-old Ellis, started getting more time in practice this week. According to reports out of Dallas, Ellis doesn't trust the Cowboys contention that they're trying to preserve his body in the offseason. The Dallas Morning News reports that Ellis has a bonus clause in his contract (renegotiated last year) that kicks in only if he appears at 85 percent of the team's offseason workouts and attends mini-camps and training camps.
In case you want to see it, here's the full list of those that aren't content:

1) Dolphins DE Jason Taylor
2) Bengals WR Chad Johnson
3) Bengals WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh
4) Bears LB Brian Urlacher
5) Bills OT Jason Peters
6) Vikings C Matt Birk
7) Cowboys OLB Greg Ellis
8) Chargers WR Kassim Osgood
9) Jaguars DE Paul Spicer
10) Saints DE Will Smith
Why would he be disgruntled?

He's a natural RDE, which means Canty's spot.

cause he plays for cincy. hearing rumors all is not happy there and he could be gone next year anyway. cut. that would be very stupid of the bungles but fitting.

He played pass rusher and LB 2 years ago under Nick Saban's 3-4 scheme. The guy is very flexible. I also remember Miami last year using him as a WR in goal situations. The guy is an elite athlete. When you game plannned for Miami's defense Taylor was priority number one, can't say the same for ellis.

So basically we would have to teach him to be a OLD.....Keep Ellis.

Myth about Greg Ellis:

Nevermind, :D.

But I will say that Ellis doesn't create "constant" pressure. He gives occasional pressure, and then he does come up with the sack alot. However, Charles Haley was much more dangerous because he was routinely in the QB's face, although he didn't get the sack all of the time.

Taylor will be in your face all the time, causing your entire plan to go down the drain as an offense, and with Ware breathing down your neck, it could be a serious problem for QBs.

Agreed...its seems to be a trend here lately that we go out and try to get at least one or two OLD big names a year....

I am as sick as any one else of Greg Ellis crying all the time....but the guy is a player when he gets on the field. Its proven. Not only that he is a life long Cowboy. No reason to get rid of him.

Plus, Greg Ellis fades through the year, and last year was no exception. If anything, Greg Ellis exemplifies the problems in Dallas. Dis-appear when you need him the most,

Greg Ellis racked a whopping one sack his final 4 games. Look at the numbers of JT, even when his team weren't even sniffing the play-offs. WHat was it, 4 sacks in the equivalent amount of time. Yeah, that sure is a sign of a dis-gruntled player.

Not only that but he plays almost exclusively on the right side. Meaning that if he were to man Ellis' spot it is learning 2 new jobs and adding coverage of a TE into the mix.

This is why:

3/2/2005: Signed a four-year, $13 million contract. The deal included a $5 million signing bonus. 2008: $2.525 million, 2009: Free Agent

That is about the only reason, and yet, the dude is whining all the time and seems to be quite bitter. Is that a long-time Cowboys to you?

Greg Ellis is a career below 10 sack under-achiever for an 8th round pick. The guy took years before he finally broke 10, and that, with Wade and Ware. Please...

The only thing GE is, is over-rated...

If your talking a straight-up swap, there is no way you can pass it down.

i don't think you can accurately call it a "fresh start" when you're in your final years, can you?

i guess taylor is this weeks "bone" for people to grip on and talk about.

Well, it depends on how you choose to look at it, I reckon.
Would you rather chew on Roy Williams some more? Getting kinda stale ain't it? This is could turn into something- I'd still say it's more unlikely than not but less so today than Friday.

I'll gladly eat crow once again if he is back and produces. He just absolutely pisses me off everey off season. But I can't argue with the results.
