He played briefly with DAK in the first half..Funny how positions that seem to be a huge strength can be surprisingly vulnerable with an injury thrown in the mix. I know there was some good press on Escobar early on moving well, but haven't really heard anything or seen anything that indicates he is ready to go. So, it could be Witten and Swaim to start the season.
That would be going above and beyond. They don't do that. But you are right it would be nice.It would be nice if the Cowboy beat reporters did some actual journalism and found out.
Loaded WR position? That's the best thing that could of happened for Chris Brown, as far as the Cowboys are concerned.. Brown isn't ready to compete with the loaded WR position and more than likely wouldn't have made the team. He's a developmental player though, and would have likely made another team that is thin at that position. But next year, Williams, Butler, and Street (if he's even on the team) will be up for new contracts. Dallas can stash him now and give Brown more time studying the route tree and weight room.

looked like he was moving pretty good.

Re #Cowboys James Hanna: We've been down this 'bone bruise' road before. Anthony Spencer showed us the way. Not good. @1053thefan
I don't find any details on the MRI results yet, but he may have simply suffered a knee contusion which included some meniscal damage that became apparent later on. If so, that can easily be cleaned up via arthroscopy, and he's right back in action.
If the arthroscopy shows damage to the articular cartilage, consistent with osteochondritis dissecans, then he'll be out for the year, with an all-too-familiar cloudy future.
The term "bone bruise" is very broad and should not be taken as a sign of impending doom.
Well, that changes things. He'll start on reserve PUP, which means Swaim definitely makes the team. Now, it's a question of whether Gathers can progress enough to show he's also worth keeping on the 53. Right now, I'd say we start off carrying three tight ends.
People are so focused on Swaim's drops. Who cares. Real question is whether he can fill Hanna's blocking role. Escobar isn't a part of the discussion, he's not and will never be a TE who has a blocking role
I completely agree. Witten, Escobar, and Swaim. And then after Week 6, they'll decide what they want to do.
But it does make me wonder if they might do something at the fullback position? What I've heard and read says that neither of the Smiths has shown enough to be assured a roster spot.
You mean a converted running back and converted linebacker haven't shown enough at fullback to take a roster spot? Color me surprised.
I don't know why if Garrett wants the fullback to be part of this offense he hasn't done at least as much to address the position as he has tight end. I know fullbacks are harder to find, but either eliminate the spot completely and commit to the two-tight end set or go chase after someone who can do it well.
I mean, up until just a week or so ago, we could have signed four-time Pro Bowler John Kuhn. Instead, we're playing around with position changes.
I totally agree. Even less effort put into it than the half-assed attempt made for a backup quarterback.
And I really agree about John Kuhn. A quality person and player that's repeatedly played well against us, and zero interest? Dumb. I think this is the second time that the Saints have signed a fullback we should have.
As a longtime OU fan, it still cracks me up that James Hanna is suddenly this tremendous blocking tight end. He's OK, but he's not that great.
Swaim will be better in that regard.
Risen Star will be thrilled as this assures that Swaim makes the team.
Thanks for the updated and infohttp://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/17315142/james-hanna-dallas-cowboys-opts-knee-surgery
OXNARD, Calif. -- Dallas Cowboys tight end James Hanna will have knee surgery that puts his availability for the Sept. 11 season opener against the New York Giants in jeopardy, according to multiple sources.
Hanna was placed on the physically unable to perform list at the start of training camp with a bone bruise. He has sought multiple opinions and has opted for the surgery.
Because the Cowboys put Hanna on the active/PUP list when camp began, he is eligible to be placed on the reserve/PUP list when the final cuts are made. If the Cowboys opt for that route, he would miss the first six games of the season and be able to return Oct. 30 against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The article also mentions a broken foot for WR Chris Brown.
I'm expecting Hanna to stay on PUP for the first 6 weeks of the season.
