Martin's gonna get paid by the Cowboys. He will be the highest paid G in the league. All other O-line spots (outside of Smith & Frederick ) - will have to be cheap to modest priced players or rookies.

We couldn't afford to keep Leary & same story will happen with Collins. At least if he balls out, we should get a high ( maybe 3rd round ) compensatory pick the year after he leaves.

Price tag has been set however Dallas can't pay every player top money.

No, but when you have perhaps the best player at his position, you pay him. We chose not to re-sign Leary because he's simply an above average guard. That's the guy you don't give big money to. This deal is done before the season starts. Book it.

But getting a deal done as smoothly as they did previously with tackle Tyron Smith and center Travis Frederick might no be in the offing.

Martin doesn’t appear interested giving the Cowboys a home town discount with a friendly-deal and doesn’t plan to get involved in the negotiations on a personal basis.

“I love being a Cowboy,” Martin said. “But I will let my agents handle it. They will let me know when it’s time to something

I think a deal will be done I also think there are different ways to work a deal
Zeitler deal is 5 year, $60,000,000 contract with the Cleveland Browns, including a $12,000,000 signing bonus, $31,500,000 guaranteed

Dallas could offer less but with more guaranteed

Not sure comp picks apply as he wasn't a draft pick. Have to research that

I do not understand why we ,as a fan base, expect players to take a "team friendly" deal when what we really mean is for them to take les money and less salary cap hits if we decide to cut them.

Jerry has enough damn money ........ I only expect players to take fair deals ....... fair to them and the team ...... not just good for the front office ......

The owners are he ones who decided to put in a salary cap ......... they should not claim bankruptcy after the fact.

I bet that member who defended Sandusky because "the program comes first" thinks ZM should take the vet minimum with incentives.

Cant say I blame him.............football is a violent sport and can leave you with lingering health problems the rest of your life.

I would go for the money also, so I cant blame Zach for not giving us a discount.........This is a business afterall

Great player, but he should get guard money, not tackle money.

It is no debate that Martin is a better guard then Zeitler so THAT deal is the basis for negotiations UP. Figure 10% MORE. NOW smart players know that guaranteed money is what is really important; but for O line guys that can play well into their middle 30's without significant drop off (guards and centers have been known to play there excellently at 36-38) it may actually matter more for the whole contract number.

for the very best there is not going to be much difference. The elite are usually within a couple of million a year.

By the way when you have a guy that is heading towards the HOF as Martin is, you pay what you have to pay. I felt the same way about LA; it was sad after his injury in 2002 how much he declined as regards movement.
