I think a deal will be done I also think there are different ways to work a deal
Zeitler deal is 5 year, $60,000,000 contract with the Cleveland Browns, including a $12,000,000 signing bonus, $31,500,000 guaranteed

Dallas could offer less but with more guaranteed

It would be dumb to guarantee more to spend less. That's a terrible gamble. Given the continually rising cap, also dumb to worry about saving 6-8 mill by giving more guarantees - ultimately you give yourself less flexibility with that.

I do not understand why we ,as a fan base, expect players to take a "team friendly" deal when what we really mean is for them to take les money and less salary cap hits if we decide to cut them.

Jerry has enough damn money ........ I only expect players to take fair deals ....... fair to them and the team ...... not just good for the front office ......

The owners are he ones who decided to put in a salary cap ......... they should not claim bankruptcy after the fact.

While Jerry has enough money the Team CAP does not.
They are bound by the CBA.
All teams on same level ground.

If no CBA then the Cowboys could out spend every team in the league.

No they could not. Jerry Is #5 . The Seattle owner has three times his wealth. #4 is close (Jacksonvile) but the others are way ahead f Jerry (Dolphins, Rams, Seahawks)

No. Kraft is richer but Jerry makes more money from the Cowboys than any other NFL team.

Last look was over $200 million more income per year than any other team and the gap was getting bigger.
I corrected using the most recent data I could find and Kraft actually is worth less then Jerry. BUT you do not realize just how much richer the three ahead of Him are. BILLIONS richer. So if they wanted to they could blow him away on players.

He's the best player on the team, and should be paid like it.

Having said that, the Cowboys should be in no hurry to sign him to anything that doesn't give them at least a little break. He's under contract for 2 more years, then there's always a tag if they needed it for some reason. Jones has all the leverage if he doesn't give it away.

7/77m with 36m gtd

15m signing bonus
1m year 1 base salary
15m year 2 base salary
5m year 3 base salary gtd

i think the cowboys' only knob is really when they sign him.
if the average becomes close to the 5th year/franchise tag $, they could delay things by some time.
franchise tag $ for ol is $14M.
it sounds like he is going to go over $12m aav though.
as you know, there is plenty of cap to sign him and collins.

Martin is due 9.3m on the fifth year option for 2018

If they tagged him it would be 15m in 2019

If he gives back some APY he gets a long-term term deal with huge gtds

That is why I say 7/77m with 36m gtd.......that is 3 years gtd

But getting a deal done as smoothly as they did previously with tackle Tyron Smith and center Travis Frederick might no be in the offing.

Martin doesn’t appear interested giving the Cowboys a home town discount with a friendly-deal and doesn’t plan to get involved in the negotiations on a personal basis.

“I love being a Cowboy,” Martin said. “But I will let my agents handle it. They will let me know when it’s time to something.”

I read the article and didn't see anything to indicate the statement about "highest paid."

Media speculation. Nothing to see here.

right, but did the cowboys not make tfred the highest paid C when they signed him?
i would suspect martin would be the highest paid by at least a little.

Wut?

He'll get more than Frederick. Frederick got $56MM with $26MM guaranteed.

Kevin Zeitler, an OG, got $60MM with $31.5MM guaranteed. That's Martin's starting point.

Personally, I consider center a more important position than Guard.

You can think whatever you want. But reality is Martin is going to get paid more than Frederick.

More? Possibly. But they will be similar. No way he gets 17 million a year or whatever nonsense people were predicting.

Put me down for a contract in the range of 6 years, $75 million with at least $35 million guaranteed.

Martin will be paid as the highest or at least close to the highest paid OG in the league. Zeitler is the highest paid OG in football right now. And his contract is bigger than Frederick's. Ergo, Martin is getting paid more than Frederick.

The only way Martin gets paid less than Frederick is if he takes a discount, which appears to be something his agents won't do.
