Team friendly deal or highest paid for Zack Martin? The latter

Martin will be paid as the highest or at least close to the highest paid OG in the league. Zeitler is the highest paid OG in football right now. And his contract is bigger than Frederick's. Ergo, Martin is getting paid more than Frederick.

The only way Martin gets paid less than Frederick is if he takes a discount, which appears to be something his agents won't do.

AGAIN.......Im sure its possible that will happen. And AGAIN..........it wont be some 17 million per season. The deals will be similar. And no I am not going to argue about what "similar" means.

5MM or more in guaranteed money isn't similar. And that's what Martin is likely to get over Frederick.

And it's not just possible. It's very likely.

I have zero concerns that ZMart will not be a Cowboy for that majority of his NFL career.

Its certainly possible that it may be very likely. LOL

There, maybe you can make up some phantom argument about that too.

Interesting to see how many years they agree on

There's no phantom argument.

You said Martin should not make more than Frederick. That's likely wrong. Based on the recent contract to Zeitler, Martin will very likely make more.

It's pretty simple. You are the on me struggling with what's reality.

No, you just cant tell when someone is agreeing with you. But by all means keep arguing.

My statement stands that their contracts will be similar in yearly compensation. A few million off. Naturally since Martins will be done two years after, it will most likely be more.

You want to argue what most likely means? Do it with someone else.

Why do people think these athletes will sign for a team friendly deal especially when they are in their prime? The only players who do discounts are old veterans without many options. Martin should and will demand top money.

I wonder sometimes why the brain trust don't get creative with the contract. The team will pay Martin 8 million a year until he retires, and then 1 million a year until he turns 60. This is guaranteed, but there is a clause the terms must not ever be revealed. He will "retire" to the practice squad so he may retain his contract with the Cowboys, but never have to show up, period.

If he retired in ten years, he would make 80 million, plus another 14 million on the practice squad for a total of 94 million dollars. or he could be a coach here and still get paid that amount and not get crossways with the league about skirting the rules.

By the way, this would be a guaranteed contract.

Obviously this is a bit tongue in cheek, but outside of the box to keep the band together is not so ridiculous.

A "few million" off isn't "similar".

To think they were going to take Shazier and Jerry had to be hid in the broom closet so they didn't take Manziel... whatever he ends up with he should get $10 million more just for those 2 near catastrophic failures

this is probably the least concerning extension Cowboy fans need to worry about. Zero chance he gets out of Dallas. This is like debating if Dallas would or wouldn't resign Emmitt the year he held out first few games.

You should see a Tyron like deal. Lots of extra years so they can roll money forward.
If Martin is content as highest paid OG this will be easy.
If he wants to go well above that, it will become very tough.
As good as he is, he plays RG here.

I'm guessing: 7 years 90 million.
15m SB
yr1 5m, cap of 8m
yr2 15m --to restructure 12m as 2nd bonus --all above guaranteed 35m... cap of ~9m
yr3 8m, cap ~13m
yr4 9m, cap 14m
yr5 10m, cap 15m
yr6 12m --if he stays you add years and restructure.
yr7 16m

Right now the current highest total value is $60 million for a guard. The highest in guaranteed money is $26.5 million. The highest avg annual value is $12 million. Those are the starting numbers. I think the 7-90 and 6-75 numbers pitched so far aren't out of whack. I could see $30 million in guaranteed money getting it done. I don't think it will have to go all the way to $35 million guaranteed, but I could be wrong.

He's squarely on a HOF path. Those guys cost. Nice thing is you get the highest level of performance, but if you got 90% of the performance for 20% of the cost you'd be remiss if you didn't consider it (like Zeke vs. Howard).
