Q: Are the Cowboys going to celebrate their 50th anniversary this season? Or did they forget about this historic milestone? Hopefully, they will at least have a patch, because if they don't, they will be the only team that is having their 50th that is not.

TAYLOR: I spoke to Rich Dalrymple, the Cowboys' PR director, and he said the club is celebrating its new stadium this year. It will celebrate its 50th anniversary next season, after it has completed 50 years of play.

That almost makes more sense... That Jerry doesn't want anything to distract from his new stadium.

Why? Would the stadium's feelings be hurt? Last time I checked, the Boys were a lot more important than that monument to Jerry's ego.

I really don't think commemorating the team's 50th anniversary would anything away from the stadium. If anything, the stadium would take away from the anniversary celebration. Maybe that's why they're waiting until next year.

I think JJT's answer in poke's post kind of ruins my joke patch.

86, that is hilarious.

a new stadium is no reason to skip a milestone. and to celebrate our 50th season in our 51st is pretty insulting. gawwwwd, i can hear the "your team can't even add correctly" jokes from here.

i do not approve of this.

I remember some heated threads over when it would take place. Guess I don't see the big deal. 50 years, big deal. Just another year. Get to 100 and maybe you'd have a claim.

It’s just marketing. Next year they will have new shirts for it, new jerseys, cups, ect. Can only sell so much and fans can only buy so much in one season.

That's a very cynical take.

And you're absolutely correct.

Right now, I won't want any of it. I have no desire to celebrate 50 years in year 51. I don't like that there are no additions to the Ring of Honor this year, and I really don't like this. It is a slap in the face to see the entire AFL honored while we don't measure up. 9 teams got started in 1960, not 8.

Buffalo Bills
Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans
Dallas Texans/Kansas City Chiefs
Oakland Raiders
New York Titans/New York Jets
Boston/New England Patriots
Denver Broncos
Los Angeles/ San Diego Chargers

Those 8 teams hold 10 Super Bowls. Dallas holds another 5. This 50 year anniversary could have been about the most successful year in NFL History, 1960. Instead a full 1/3 of that is blunted.

I'd buy 50 year anniversary stuff for the next 10 years. Now I may not buy it for 1 year because of a stupid decision.

Jerry's probably just being cautious just in case we don't make it through this year.

Of course the history of the team is more important. But to Jerry? You've heard how he can barely contain himself about the stadium. We've pretty much seen it ourselves.
