Why? Would the stadium's feelings be hurt? Last time I checked, the Boys were a lot more important than that monument to Jerry's ego.

:hammer: You nailed my feelings on this exactly bbgun! The stadium is all about Jerry Jones while most of that 50 years of history was before he got here.

I am actually surprised that he did not celebrate the 20th anniversary last year.

I don't agree that the stadium is all about Jerry. However, the stadium is less important to me than the 50 year celebration. I love the new stadium. I think it is awesome. I do not approve of it being put above celebrating 50 years in importance.

It's like a couple who have reached 50 years of marriage and they win the lottery. Their kids throw them a party to celebrate winning the lottery and tell their parents, "we'll celebrate your golden anniversary next year."

I'd write the ungrateful, greedy whelps out of the will if they did that.

Q: Are the Cowboys going to celebrate their 50th anniversary this season? Or did they forget about this historic milestone? Hopefully, they will at least have a patch, because if they don't, they will be the only team that is having their 50th that is not.

Don Armstrong

TAYLOR: I spoke to Rich Dalrymple, the Cowboys' PR director, and he said the club is celebrating its new stadium this year. It will celebrate its 50th anniversary next season, after it has completed 50 years of play.

CrazyCowboy will also turn 50 next year! Just like my Cowboys!;)

The stadium isn't all about Jerry. Is it his baby so to speak? Yes. But he built it with the Cowboys fan in mind. No doubt it is a multi-use entertainment venue designed to wreak profits, but what's wrong with that? The "controversial" videoboard is there for the fans. The open end zones and plaza areas are there for the fans. Anyone who doesn't believe that Jerry had the fans in mind really hasn't thought about it. Cowboys Stadium is the envy of the league and Jerry Jones has every right to grin from ear to ear and puff out his chest if he wants to.

Now all of that being said, I see no reason not to celebrate the 50th year of the Cowboys existence just because the stadium is new. That doesn't compute. If we wanted to, we could emphasize both milestones.

After completing 50 years, huh?

All you married gentlemen need to try this with your wives and tell me how it works out.

Jerry needs to think about this. How could he possibly pass up the new stadium featuring the 50th season, and some unfinished business with the Ring of Honor. All three would work well together, and I can't understand Jerry's motives in not featuring all three. Its a HUGE missed opportunity.

I sometimes wonder if Jerry Jones really cares that much for the history of the team prior to his purchase as opposed to the years since that day. Decisions like this, and his well known ego about himself make me think he does not value the team's history prior to himself as much as he should.

Celebrating their 50th season in their 51st year is beyond lame.

I cannot figure out why the DFW media is not all over this angle?

They'll jump all over Romo playing golf, TO wearing Lance Armstrong gear to ride a stationary bike, and whether punts will hit a video board, but ignore 50 years not being celebrated?

Either they are completely ignorant of the story or they haven't got the balls to address it. I lean towards the latter explanation.

Oh, I appreciate it, but that doesn't make it any less outlandish or outrageous. Everything about Jerry is brash, unapologetic, and "in your face," and so is his creation. For better or worse, it's a reflection of his personality. And it goes without saying that an inanimate object should not be elevated in importance over the team's history, which makes me wonder about Jerry's true priorities.

I sent a rather terse e-mail to the DFW media. They probably are researching punts hitting video boards and will get to it next year.

i think it would have made a perfect pairing....in an old traditions & new beginnings sorta way.

Exactly, there is a way thay can do both.
I wouldn't won't another owner. But this time it is about GREED.....

This year make the money of the stadium, and stadium logo merchandise, etc....next year....print up and have new items about the 50th Anniversary. Instead of having both at once.

I can understand it from a business stand point. But how much difference can it really make. But then again, if most of us could do that, we probably would also.....got to love capitalism....

I actually find it the Jerry thing to do (whether that is synonymous w/'stupid' thats for you to decide). Jerry would rather have the spotlight to himself than share w/the 8 other AFL teams.

It could backfire on him, but you can't argue that the move is typical Jerry.

Who knows what goes through Jerry's mind . . .

Preferrably a horse's hoof.

This is typical Jerry. If it were up to him, he would have postponed the nation's bicentennial celebration until 1977 if he thought it was overshadowing him winning some Little Rock Chamber of Commerce award.

I would like to report that not one of these bastions of journalistic integrity have responded.

They must be looking up stuff on Candice Crawford.

And there appears to be a precedent for it.

In 1969, the AFL celebrated its tenth season. It was also the 10th season for the Cowboys, but the only celebrating they did was for the NFL's 50th season, which the league celebrated in 1969.

Still, being the ultimate marketer that Jerry is, I can't believe he's passing on an opportunity to cash-in on fan desire to celebrate the team's 50th season.

Very odd . . .
