He has covered very good this year...but looked horrible on a couple of big tackles we needed.

Like what? I remember him whiffing on Cooley, but I think he's played decent run support, and open field tackling. He sure looked good taking Smith down on saturday.

So first you say we doubled Smith "all day," which was false, and now you say Proehl was "catching bombs all day," which also is false. Proehl caught one pass early in the first quarter and one late in the fourth quarter -- and nothing in between.

Delhomme -- supposedly a Pro Bowl quarterback with a Pro Bowl No. 1 receiver -- completed only six of 20 passes to wide receivers, a whopping 30 percent completion rate. Yep, those are some pretty weak and predictable coverage schemes, I'd say.

Seriously man...you really do take what people say way way too seriously :) .

Of course he WASNT catching on the Cowboys all day, it was sarcasm, but he had a good game. The 70 Bomb set them up for a Field Goal I beleive and the 40 Yard TD put them ahead in the 4th Quarter.

As I stated...Steve Smith got open several times during that game....the annoucers and my DVD have the replays to prove it.

I have no clue what Mr. Jake was doing, I know what Steve Smith was doing when he was open underneath, and that was constantly making glaring growls at the sidelines and throwing his hands up...

And dont act like Zimmer's scheme arent easy to break...just go ask Santana Moss...a receiver of the same mold as Smith.

He's been thrown at 66 times and has allowed 28 completions (42.4 percent) for 308 yards and no touchdowns. He has intercepted two of those, deflected one to Dat Nguyen for an interception and had another interception off a pass tipped by Bradie James. The Cowboys' coaches credit him with 15 passes deflected, while NFL.com says he has 17.

amazing how Newman has turned it around with a semblence of a pass-rush in front of him

Even more amazing that the pass rush has been pretty mediocre for the last 7-8 weeks, and he's still getting it done.

I would put Newman with the top CB in the league today

Yep.

He is just as good as the guys going to the Pro Bowl this year. Those guys going to the Pro Bowl are good too.

If he has a strong season next year like he did this year, I think the fact that he should have been penciled in in 2005 will help him out.

That's a pretty good point.

But with all the dang on Pro-Offensive Penalties, it would be difficult for any corner to be effective without a decent pass rush.

Oh and one other thing, since we are talking about Terence Newman and corners.

Okay, think back when Henry and Roy were healthy.

Why on earth did we not play more Man-To-Man coverages, which has been my big beef with Mr. Zimmer.

Newman is capable of playing mono-y-mono.

Henry is capable of playing mono-y-mono.

Glenn is capable of playing mono-y-mono.

I would have liked to have seen more Zero Coverage schemes where we move Roy or Keith around and blitz from all directions like we did in 2003.

Henry and Newman are making a ton of money and deserve too, I would like to see more of their talents utilized here.

:D

All I ask for is more unpredictable and more innovative defensive play calling.

When I look at Jim Johnson and Gregg Williams...like one poster always says...there is alot more to be desired.

Yeah, Ware got some pressure on Jake, but alot of times Jake could have made some coffee before he threw the ball away.

Heck, Trent Green could have made every fan in the stadium coffee before throwing the ball.

yeah, but Jim Johnson and Greg WIlliams know the 4-3 like the back of their hands, and so do the players under their command, this is the 1st year anyone, w/ the exception of Parcells, knows how to play the 3-4, in Dallas, of course Glover played some in Nawlins, Canty played a whole bunch in college, Spears played some in college, Ferguson played some at New York, but you get the point

it's going to be a process, and next year, I gUARanTEE you that Zimmer will open up the reigns on D, because he will be comfortable calling the 3-4, and he will expect his players to be executing it, and they should

just watch

Hey, people were calling for the head of San Diego's DC last year. It has since been explained that since it was the first year of the 3-4, it wasn't that they didn't want to mix thing up, the just COULDN'T. Be it personnel issues, or just a lack of experience with the scheme, they knew they would be setting themselves up for failure if they went nuts. This is Zimmer, and the team's, first year of 3-4 defense. Expect a big improvement next year. I'm in your corner, in terms of this year, but I can see reasons why it might be so vanilla. If it continues next year - fire his ***.

I agree completely, Mike... But I *really* think that's Parcells and not Zimmer. Parcells has always favored zones that are less risky and limit the big play, even going back to the Giants days. This one isn't on Zimmer, IMO.

Yeah, I read an article or saw on ESPN that more teams are doing that. Hoping to catch the QB make a mistake giving up the underneat routes but not anything deep.

But wouldnt you want someone that has extensive knowledge of a scheme (3-4) you run? I know the guy can learn, but I just have never been a big fan of his.

I have always said this, Zimmer seems to think the only way to make the QB make a mistake is to blitz him or zone him.

He never does anything "out of the box" like I saw the Bengals and Denver defenses do.

Have some lineman drop back and blitz linebackers. Move Roy all around the field. Disguise the blitzes better then he does. Just so much stuff I think he lacks....

Heck even do what Belichek has done and take out all lineman and just go with linebackers and corners hahaha

evidently Parcells thought Zimmer was up to the task, of learning, and teaching the 34 to his players, or he would have waited till next year to do it, and find another D-coordinator

that has to count for something

Again, yes he even upped his salary by 1 Million.

It does count for something, shows the Big man has faith in him.

But even Parcells will tell you he has made some mistkes, not saying Zimmer is one of them, but it has happened, im pretty sure.

Wasn't Newman a little nicked up last year, I thought I heard about him being hurt and no one knew it?

If that was the case, then he's back to being healthy and doing what he does. Plus, our passrush has been good but not great - you add in Abraham to the mix plus a year and offseason for Spears/Canty, our passrush could be devastating.
