When TO retires, does he make the HOF on the first ballot when eligible? If not,why not?

I don't believe he will be a first ballot hall of famer simply because he has probably turned off most of the members of the committee with his behavior. I think they will "scold" him for his antics by keeping him out of the Hall on his first time and possibly second time on the ballot. His stats will be good enough but his behavior and the fact that he has no SB ring(s) (currently) could hurt him. (If T.O. comes back next season I hope we can change the Super Bowl factor ASAP).

Well he should be looking at his stats and if he puts up the kind of stats he is putting up for the next two or three years then he definatly should, but Irvin should have been a 1st Ballot Hall of Famer but the Hall of Fame voters held him out because of what he did outside the Football Field. (Plus because he was a Cowboy)

Owens is going to have to blow them away with his stats because he's got to overcome his reputation.

He could help himself out, of course, by being a team player for the remainder of his career, but there's no realistic chance of that happening.

That meltdown in Philadelphia was pretty freaking spectacular. The fact that the Eagles made it to the NFC Championship over and over again before TO, then went to the Super Bowl one year with TO, then went 6-10 when he started *****ing about his contract, then won the East again when they got rid of him is pretty damning. Don't forget, he was also accused of 'quitting' on the 49ers before they traded him.

His numbers will be good, but he's never been head and shoulders above Moss, Harrison, 85, Steve Smith, etc. I think it might come down to who's endorsing him, and who's in his corner. The writers will listen to a guy like Mooch or Parcells if they say he deserves to get in. Otherwise, his 10-cent head is going to keep his million-dollar body out of the HOF.

Compared to the 18 wide receivers already in the HOF,he already has the stats....and then some!!! I think the statement that he may be punished by the voters because of his "antics" may hold some credence. However, should he buy into the Wade Phillips "We Are Family" scenario, and finally "Be all he can be",then he could really be an integral part of a super team, and could propel himself into that first ballot catagory. I hope he realizes the opportunity presented to HIM by this change in coaching regime.

It would not surprise me if he never gets in.

The people that have to vote for him are the same ones that are damning him now.

There are WR's more deserving who are not in yet. I'd say the answer is NO.

Now I am in no way a big TO proponent or apologist. Heavens knows he could sure use a damm good PR man...After all,it is all about TO to him. Have you checked his website, with his own line of popcorn, for Godssake? The mans a consumate self promoter, and if he had a good PR man,he would have taken the opportunity after the Christmas game to tell the reporters gathered that yes,he did put the ball in the Salvation Army barrel, but that he wanted it back, and would replace it with a check for $25,000,or such! What a pr coup that would have been. But I digress........All I'm saying is that, while there are many players on the Cowboys who stand to benefit from the "Lil' Bum Travelling Circus" that's about to come to town,TO is definitely one of them! Again,if he will just recognize the golden opportunity that has come his way!

After seeing these numbers, it would be a crime if he does not get in.

His stats will not be enough to make the HoF selection committee forget what a jerk he has been all these years. Anyone else and he would be a shoe-in. Heck, he put up pretty good stats this year and they weren't enough to get him selected to the Pro-Bowl even as a replacement, which is up to the coaches.

If he gets in at all it will be several years after he retires.

One last thing, he has no one to blame but himself.

Michael Irvin with 3 Super Bowl rings wasn't a 1st ballot Hall of Famer.

Owens isn't in Irvin's league as far as a football player. He hasn't been a difference maker on a Championship team.

Not only no, hell no.

As I said in my initial post the numbers are there right now. He WILL get in but the punishment will be not bestowing the honor of being a 1st ballot guy. That honor is only allowed for football royalty according to some committee people. Royalty like Emmitt, Troy, Montana, the original LT, Rice, Elway, Marino etc.

It is inaccurate to compare Owens with the WRs that are already in the HoF as those aren't the guys he will be compared with. He will be compare with his contemporaries: Rice, Irvin, Harrison, Holt, etc. The difference is that every one of those guys has a SB ring and Owens doesn't, plus he has NEVER made a team better with his presence.

Let me repeat that, Owens has never made a team better with his presence. He is a talented guy but he is not a good football player IMO.

Only a few WRs that are in the HoF are without championship rings. Off the top of my head I would say: Largent, Joiner, & Mitchell but Largent retired as the all-time leader and Joiner was in the top-3 when he retired. I believe Taylor was at or near the top when he retired as well.

Owens won't be anywhere near the top in stats compared with Rice, Tim Brown, Chris Carter, and Marvin Harrison.

The more I think about it the less I believe he will ever get in.

Yeah, but then look at today's receivers. There are a lot of wideouts who put up big numbers these days, especially when compared to previous decades.

If TO puts up 2 more Pro Bowl caliber seasons (I would consider this one), I think he has a shot, but fair or not, the voters will hold his crazy antics, lack of playing for one team a majority of his career, and failure to show up big in big games against him.

i think he is in, some people don't like him but you have to respect his game and the numbers don't lie - he has been dominant. he is a definate HOF for me but first time around is the question because of his antics, i think he will go in first time but i am not 100% sure.

If you thought the Art Monk supporters were mad when Irvin got in, just wait ...
