With this team’s youth and strength on defense, I think we will continue to see drafts that focus on OL.
2023 in no order - OG, OT, WR, RB, DT, LB, DB.

In this win streak, RT Terrence Steele is proving he is a major upgrade of Lael Collins.

We haven't heard about edge rushers beating him. We haven't heard his name called out because of
pressures, sacks, or even penalties since the Bucs game.

He's been very solid. And it may be premature jump gun, but this is another UFA player in
2023 that i think Stephen is gonna have to come really strong to re-sign him next offseason.
as NFL teams will pursue him and make it a bidding war for him.

And from what i'm hearing Lael has disappointed in Cincy.
Even saw a bench confrontation between Lael and coaches.

He's just not the same since that hip surgery, imo.- and the Cowboys knew it, and they were already
high upon Steele anyway. So it was evitable out with Lael and Steele the immediate future. .

I think he may be classified ad a restricted free agent. But agree it's worked out well so can with Steele vs Collins

Steele is one of those players like McGovern, Biadasz, and like C Wiliams was, guys that you use to spackle the holes, serviceable guys but have a plan to have their replacement on the roster when it comes contract year. Unless he is a really high level RT there is no need to try and re-sign unless the amount is reasonable.

Yet pass protecting OTs are difficult to find.
i've seen the McGovern, Biadasz, and like C Wiliams struggle, has that been the case with Steele thus far since he's started ?
Super Bowl contenders Cincy needed OT help so badly on their OL that they signed up Lael Collins in the offseason, and he's still doesn't appear to be the long term answer at this point.

if you get an OT that is not giving up sacks and pressures, it'd maybe in our best interest to cement him long term, or franchise tag him if its' so imperative that
you're desiring another one year strong look (ala DLaw)

This season is still ongoing but from all indications, unless its' Vikes Danielle Hunter, he's not gonna be pressed against any elite edge guys, until playoff time (Niners' Bosa?) .

I wouldn't call it an upgrade but cheaper option that gives you about the same level of play..he still had some struggles, but Steeles been solid.. so it was nice moves as some here like me stated was good one. l the FO literally purged most of the patyers who were inconsonant, not available, making too much money, commits all the penalty's, missed kicks etc et this offseason and were crucified for it.

the moves, every one of them, were the right choices. we do not miss any of them..the alleged , most horrible offseason ever, turns out to be yet another busted fan narrative, when will fans learn to judge the moves after the season. names on the back of jerseys and contracts mean nothing. same with FAs and drafts,,wait before judging jeez.

Based on Steele's initial play and where he is at today is amazing. He went from a total scrub that should not be on the field to a legit starter.

Steele is decent; serviceable.
Never going to be more than that.
we need better. But at least its not a big hole in the line; like it is between LT and C. And I am not sure Biadazz is the long term answer there either.

Your standards are too low for a legit starter.

La'El has all the physical tools and traits you want at OT. His problem is between his ears. He is/was an elite run blocker and he had some nice years in pass protection. But, that suspension last year derailed him and soured our FO on him. Can he play G? Probably. But he was not out of position.
Hes a mauler. He belongs inside. In space in pass protection he always struggled with. Even here. This staff missed on connor williams position as well. He might make the pro bowl as a center

I hated the La'el extension when it happened, and am loving life right now that he's gone and we replaced him with a smart, coachable guy.

La'el Collins may be the most overrated Cowboy of the current era. He would routinely get mentioned by name in the media for being an elite tackle, but dude never even made a Pro Bowl and ALWAYS committed the untimely penalty.

He was great value for where we got him, and the line was clicking back when he was playing guard, but it was time to move on.

Imo, the position shuffling, the injuries and the OL coaching changes and philosophies may have played a part in

- Lael never got into mastering the OG role, even with him replacing Ron Leary at LG,
and the club was determined to make him a converted OG, rather than compete with a declining Free for a future role at OT.
In fact at that time they actually envisioned Chaz Green (yikes!) as the heir apparent to Free's RT role.
And when Free surprisingly retired, they pressed Collins to be the new RT.

- A lefty southpaw, i always thought Collins was more fitted to be a natural LT, but that's wasn't happening with HOF'er Tyron there.
Penalties ? That seemed more clearly as always Conner Williams than i remember it being Collins.
In fact at one point, Williams led the entire NFL in penalties among OLs..

- With Collins coming off a underachieving year, i was actually surprised the team re-signed him long term, after drafting OG McGovern in 3rd rd as i thought
for sure Williams was gonna be moved outside to RT. (he was a very good college OT at UT) but nuthin' changed with the two Conners.

Collins has a bad back and it is obvious from the way he plays. He cannot get any bend so he cannot get low to make his blocks. He also cannot turn so he is getting beat by speed rushers. It would not surprise me to see the Bengals bench him and then put him on IR.

If you're referring to Collins, Broaddus said he cannot bend and maintain a lower anchor base to be an OG.- especially with that hip issue.

So, far this swap of Steele for Collins is working out great. Steele is solid. He's a top 20 OT in this league right now.

PFF has Steele grading out 20 points higher than La'El who is having a rough season so far.
He is higher than top 20 imo.

I think he is already top 10.

Nobody....NOBODY has beaten him.

The reason he got bashed week 1, as I stated all that following week, was not his actual play but his 4 penalties. He has played the same every week.

This is only building on last year where he outplayed Collins at RT. People bashed Steele bc PFF had a lower grade on him because they also factored in his starts at LT last year. Lazy people just used that as their measure of him.

As I said ALL offseason, we upgraded at RT.

So him not bending with a hip issue makes him better in space??? The hip jacked him up all the way around. Lael is crazy strong im playing to his strength

2023 in no order - OG, OT, WR, RB, DT, LB, DB.

- i'd scratch out OT as far as starters, With Tyler and Steele we appear set.
but i can see us continuing to draft young developing OTs.
Dunno what immediate future holds for Josh Ball.

- I'm still watching the center role here, but LG is definitely gonna continue to be a long term find.

- Look for WR depth as dunno what's to become of Tolbert, Fehoko group. Ditto with James Washington.
We're really right now weak depth wise at WR.

- TE is gonna be look at this year with Ferguson, as thus far there's not a strong indication and he's not
had strong looks in the pass game.

- Don't be surprised if we go RB, especially if Pollard bounces out as a FA.

- With two UFA vet LBs, i expect both another look in FA (cheap) as well as adding more LBs in the draft.
Clarke is still ACL recovering this year, and Cox has not been an big role this year at all.

- DT ? At this point, they're relying upon the young guys like Osa, Gallimore, and Bohanna. Hill will be an UFA, so we'll see
what happens to him post-season. I see DT as only if there's a high value draftee that unexpectedly falls into their laps early on.
along with very cheap street bargain vets

- I dunno bout Fowler's contract. One or two years ? i've really liked his contribution and presence this year

Steele has played well, but we have to ride this out when Dak returns as Rush is getting rid of the ball 2nd fastest in the league behind Brady, most of his passes are also off of playaction.

you don't have to press as lower and bend in anchoring base outside at OT as you do at OG.
it's a difference stance, different leverage and positioning in the roles,

When he was beating the blitzes, we saw how fast Dak getting the ball out too (per 1st half of 2021 season)
they take more chances with Dak's passing than they do with Cooper Rush.

Kellen will want Dak to be more daring and tight squeeze passes than they want with Cooper Rush.
When Dak returns, Kellen may run the ball Less than what we were running heavily with Rush, because Kellen will become more greedy and more pass happy conscious.

Instead of using maintaining the run game to better help our play action,.. watch how Kellen goes right back to that damn shotgun formation down after down, because he wants envision Dak as
Pat Mahomes again. :(

Collins was a fat unreliable lazy loser the team got better the minute he was gone.
