La'El has all the physical tools and traits you want at OT. His problem is between his ears. He is/was an elite run blocker and he had some nice years in pass protection. But, that suspension last year derailed him and soured our FO on him. Can he play G? Probably. But he was not out of position.

He also has piss poor bribery skills. Jerry can't roll with folks like that. Either get the job done or get out of the way.

To be fair Lael is playing out of position. He would be a much better guard than tackle. But jerry made a deal with him to pay him tackle money.
He got fat and unmotivated, before that he was ok in RT position. Obviously it would have helped to be in Guard position now as he cant move quick enough,

In this win streak, RT Terrence Steele is proving he is a major upgrade of Lael Collins.

We haven't heard about edge rushers beating him. We haven't heard his name called out because of
pressures, sacks, or even penalties since the Bucs game.

He's been very solid. And it may be premature jump gun, but this is another UFA player in
2023 that i think Stephen is gonna have to come really strong to re-sign him next offseason.
as NFL teams will pursue him and make it a bidding war for him.

And from what i'm hearing Lael has disappointed in Cincy.
Even saw a bench confrontation between Lael and coaches.

He's just not the same since that hip surgery, imo.- and the Cowboys knew it, and they were already
high upon Steele anyway. So it was evitable out with Lael and Steele the immediate future. .

These are the kind of takes that can only exist during a 4 game win streak. We all know Steele is not a good lineman.

Yes but there are others that will be demanding larger parts of the pie after next season like Diggs, Dak, Lamb. They will be followed by Parsons and Tyler Smith. I know there are places for savings cut/rework zeke, and Tyron possibly retiring or the very least hitting FA after 2024 season

I noticed that you keep mentioning CeeDee Lamb, but he has not near accomplished the level and scale and stock that Parsons and Lamb have at this point.

Those guys are already made their cemented foot stamps as the better edge rusher and CB at their respective positions. Lamb has not done so yet, and it's still in the making
of him even needing to prove he's a true lead WR here.

At this point, it's just the hope that Lamb becomes the WR they envisioned him to be when they selected him in the first round.
- And i have my gauge to how that should be just as well.

Steele is playing well, good problem to have but when Tyron comes back healthy...where does he go?

- Either Tyron moves right back into his LT starting role, which would immediately put rookie Tyler back at LG... or highly paid and future HOF'er Tyron is simply a top reserve at that very time.
With Tyron having missed so many game and recovering,... is he really in top playing shape to just jump right back in full time ?

- Steele is very unlikely to be replaced at RT.

- My thing is do we really want to do the musical chairs switches and risk continuity near or during the very critical playoff games ?

yeh his play is only a pipe dream mirage of an illusion. His QB is really getting sacked in real life. .. :muttley:

Thats a tough one, I agree on the musical chairs and lord knows I want Tyler to be at LT forever now....but a healthy Tyrone Smith on the bench is a wierd day.

Are you serious?????? These two are like night and day with Steele being an excellent keep on the Cowboys part.

If you read my other post I also said Lambs next contract is a wild card since he has not shown enough to warrant high level #1 money so his AAV could be all over the board. He will definitely get Gallup money but how far beyond that is unknown.

Where's my boy @risenstar? I thought LC was a stud and Steele was a JAG?

He’s much better and has been for two years. People were still thinking of 2018 La’el Collins. He’s been washed since 2020.

Steele has come a long way...he's steady and smart....not dominating...at least, not yet. I'm excited for this kid.
He's also reliable off the field as well. He's not a knucklehead. On and off the field he's more reliable than the more expensive Collins. I don't give kudos to the FO much but keeping Steele over Collins and letting Gregory walk for Armstrong has paid off.

As I stated all last season, give me the hungry player that wants to get better, over the guy that’s just hungry for cheeseburgers.

What do you have against cheeseburgers? I am always hungry for cheeseburgers.

He’s a RFA for 2023, guessing they drop a 2nd round tender on him and match any outside contract unless it is unreasonably stupid!

I don't worry too much about all that. We had $20 million extra this year. We didn't have to cut anyone if we wanted to, but we picked and chose who we felt was worth keeping. I may not have agreed with it all, but no one was cut because we couldn't fit them under the cap.

I will say that I'm watching back the Rams games and Steele did give up a couple of quick pressures that forced Rush to get rid of the ball as he got hit. One caused an incompletion, the other was the drop by Gallup. I don't think what we're going to offer Steele is close to being set yet. We may just go with a tender offer next year and see how it goes before deciding whether to commit long term.

I can see why the team went with him. All reports say he is a person who worked his butt of to get into the lineup. Not the most talented, but he used all of his focus on getting better physically and the front office is giving him credit for the hard work he has put in.

There is no doubt there are more talented players in the league, but you can't fault a guy for always working hard and being reliable for the team.
