I still don't like it brother. Here is why...

Cooks is going to be 30 when the 2023 season starts. The Cowboys just took up his new 2 year contract extension he received last year with the Texans. Cowboys will pay Cooks $12.5 mil this season and owe him $16.5 mil for 2024. That's a lot for a 31 year old WR with a lot of wear-n-tear for 2024, which makes me believe Jerry and Stephen will once again extend the contract a few more years down the road to create cap space whether Brandin Cooks remains with the team after 2024 or not. It's the same old crap once again of not being able to draft good young receivers or build and have them execute well for cheap. Plus, Cooks is short (5'10"). At his age and with his wear and tear, I doubt he has that 4.33 speed anymore. How is that going to help this Offense or fare well for Dak?

I realize it's too late to complain. Cooks is here at the cost that he is whether anyone likes it or not, but I believe the Cowboys would be smart to address a fast WR in the draft, preferably someone like the fastest WR at this year's Combine (4.33 speed) in the 2nd or 3rd round like Trey Palmer (6'0", 192 lbs)...

A legit 4.33 speedster who is young, has quick acceleration, strong hands, goes up high for high balls, has good moves with the ball while in traffic and can make plays short, mid or deep. Plus, would be cheap for 4 years.

Just because we made that trade doesn't mean we can't draft one of those WRs. That said, I think Cooks is going to be surprisingly good. Plus, it takes young WRs a bit to develop. Having a vet presence like Cooks can help a rookie WR develop. That in it of itself makes this a good deal. Top it off with how well Cooks has played through his career, and I think this was a brilliant move.

Cook at 6 season of over 1,000 yards receiving, hardly a Jag. The guys has very good speed at a 4.33 and I think is a compliment to Lamb who should benefit by adding Cook into the lineup. As for the deal? Cowboys give up this years 5th and next years 6th and Houston eats 6 mill off the deal making leaving Dallas with only 12 mill on the deal. People can spin this however they choose but as far as I'm concerned this is a very good deal for the Cowboys.

Cooks is a perfect fit for MM’s west coast offense. And speed like his is always a good thing. This is a great signing.
Mehhhh you can be happy about it like I would of been 10 years ago but I'm not drinking the kool-aid anymore. I'm in the prove it camp. I do like the Gilmore signing but like many of the signings over the years these are guys I wanted in Dallas on thier second contract. Not the twilight of thier careers.

I doubt any one of them offers the level of talent that this team requires to go deep into the playoffs. There will be TEs available to us this year that should be capable of affording assistance to fulfill that purpose. I hope to see us draft one this year offering us elite potential.
The chances of a rookie tight end being the tight end we need to go deep into the playoffs is almost like winning the football lottery.

Hey Q, do want to honor a fellow late nighter with my best-effort replies :)

Cowboys are my NFC team, Chargers my AFC team. Diversified portfolio. Football wife, football mistress...however you want to say it.

Last year LAC splurged all over. Signed the guy everyone viewed as best free agent corner, JC Jackson for 5-year, 82 mil. He didn't play even one good game for the team and now faces possible career-ending injury. That's ****ed up! Loading up for special massive signing players can destroy your team so fast.

As for Kellen Moore. I'm stoked, as is most everyone there. So glad he's in L.A. Ekeler is looking for more money. That's it. That's all. Sorry to crush your narrative. Ekeler's trade demands had nothing to do with KM's playbook. That dies give me a good laugh, so grateful.

I'll look for more of your posts.
Great Post!

I concede the Eckler narrative as it is more conjecture than understanding of the Chargers situation.

LOL. The guy who doesnt let anyone see his posting history, then uses someone else's post history tab to call them a hypocrite.

The irony of this is insane.
Show me where I used anyone's posting history but rather just see what they post in threads. Keep defending your boy Rock and keep openly admitting to being a weird stalker that checks people's posting history. You are a special kind of member that is for sure.

I see a lot of whining by folks re: Cooks and they point to his stats last year without context and dismiss his six 1,000+ yard seasons as old news.

Yet, they wanted to trade for Hopkins, a guy who’s older than Cooks; slower/possession guy (not what we need); hasn’t put up a 1,000 yard season since 2020; caught just 18 yards more than Cook last year (same # of TDs), and recently came off suspension for PEDs.

All that, and you’d likely have to trade much higher draft capital and sign him to a more pricey and longer extension.

Lunacy.

So who did you want lol? You just wanted them to re-sign Brown? I’m confused….
Why are you making ridiculous accusations? Seriously? Is this how you defend overpaying for a soon to be 30 year old who has lots of wear-n-tear by acting up and making ridiculous accusations? I hate seeing you act like the Dak haters. Be better than that. Sheesh, bro.

I was preferring the Cowboys would have gone after someone like Darius Slayton who is only 26 years old and has much less mileage. He did run a 4.39 40 back in his combine days, and he is 6'1", 195 lbs, so he still can be a good #3. Giants resigned him on a very good contract deal (2 years for $12 mil total. That's still half a mil less than what the Cowboys are going to pay the 30 year old Cooks just for this year alone. You do know Brandin Cooks salary jumps to $16+ mil next year, right???).

DJ Chark is still available. 6'4", 220 lbs, 26 years old, ran a 4.34 40 during his combine days, has little mileage and can be a good #3 for cheap as well...somewhere around $6 mil/year similar to Darius Slayton. But, nah, let's get short 30+ old receivers with lots of wear-n-tear who we also have to pay lots of money to. That sounds better to you?
