Here's something for the Zeke is overpaid crew.
Pre fat extension he was already an inefficient player, who lacked motivation, didn't work hard in the offseason and was coddled in season.
Does anyone expect our deal for Zeke to turn out any better?
Volume and production (assume you mean yards) don't mean efficiency, they're pretty irrelevant. A good running back doesn't get you there alone, but you don't accomplish that without one.
I never would have drafted Zeke at 4, and I don't like paying big money to a RB. But it's not prohibitive, it's not out of line for the market, and it if they want to be a run-first team (which is outdated but they were under JG), you have to pay a RB.
You are dead wrong about Pollard producing like Zeke. There is just absolutely nothing to suggest any truth to that.
In general I would agree, however without having all of the facts it's disingenuous to suggest we're qualified to dictate the salary details. It's all conjecture on "what a player is worth." And I disagree with fans who carry on. The FO is in better shape than most think. Fans said the same about every high contract in the past. While I'm not a capologist, as a fan I obviously want to see us put the best team possible on the field. The more you overpay for any position, the less you have to pay for good players at other positions.
I don't know if the Zeke signing will hurt the team cap wise, I'm just saying I understand why some people are worried about the possibility. But for some to think they know it's going to be the teams Achilles heel is a bit much.In general I would agree, however without having all of the facts it's disingenuous to suggest we're qualified to dictate the salary details. I think it's a much more costly mistake not signing at all.
I agree with that, but if SF had been able to continue running the ball, those 3 and outs may have been sustained drives, resulting in points at best, or taking time off the clock at worst. (As I said, if they'd been able to)
I'm happy they failed, but I'm just adding the possibility of a better RB being the critical factor.
My gut tells me Elliott will have a longer career than some suspect. It's ok to assume that because we all know RBs have shorter careers, but I believe Elliott is different. In the case for Prescott, I honestly think the tag is just to give them more time to iron out a deal. I can't realistically think that the team is that dumb to move from him.I don't know if the Zeke signing will hurt the team cap wise, I'm just saying I understand why some people are worried about the possibility. How does Zeke have any years left in his prime when his prime was 2016?
Funny how no one mentions he had the second best run blocking O line in the league but no one wants to mention that. Whenever Ewok has a bad game his supporters immediately blame the O line yet no one mentions how he’s had a top 5 run blocking line his entire NFL career. There are other running backs that have done more with much less as far as O lines go.
I would have paid good money to have seen Zeke drafted by the Giants to see how “great” he really is.
He’s a very good RB but he’s clearly declining and has been more fortunate than almost, if not every, other RB that’s comparable to him.
Also, who cares how good he is? How many rushing leaders have won a SB in the past twenty years? ONE. Running backs are the most expendable position on the field, especially with a good O line and Jerry was stupid enough to pay him what he did. Hopefully the Giants are as stupid as Jerry and do the same with Barkley.
He's 3 pounds heavier than his combine weight. Here is my hope for Zeke.
1. Get some of that bulk off his body.. It's clearly slowing him down.. We need 2016..
2. We need coaching that actually creates and gets him in space.. This stubborn 90's Garrett approach of lining him up and cramming him between the tackles all game is just dumb.
That will fix Zeke... I have no doubt if he was a 49er he'd be hitting his head on the goal post constantly. McCarthy needs to figure it out.
He's 3 pounds heavier than his combine weight.
Great take.Well he needs to lose that 3 pounds.
Do you think the 49ers would have won the SB with a better RB?
He's 3 pounds heavier than his combine weight.
Thank you Dr. OzFat weighs less than muscle
I guess I don't see what you're seeing then.
IF you give them volume they will produce.. That's what I see. It really doesn't matter who it is or what their situation is either. Just give them volume.
If Tony Pollard had Zeke like volume he would have Zeke like results.. It doesn't mean he is better then Zeke or as good either. It's just how that position works IMO.
Not when he gets hurt. Not if but when. I don't believe he can take the punishment like zeke can and has. Pollard can't block like zeke and would get flattened. Zeke effectively becomes an extra lineman, taking on not just DB's and safeties, but DL too!
Your logic is flawed.
So in order to win a SB, a team needs a cheap RB and a cheap QB? Sounds easy enough. Cut Dak and Zeke and sign a couple a CFL players. Championship!!I'm pretty sure the last 10 Superbowl champs had cheap RB's too.
I don't know what to say. We did the stupid thing and now we have to find a way to win by making stupid salary cap decisions.
