I thank QC for giving us Romo.

If he doesn't get cut that year, Romo probably does (b/c of Jerry loving Henson).

I always knew I loved the weed!

I am thankful that Dallas did not sign Jake Delhomme in 2003.

Romo played at Sean Payton's alma mater. He broke all of Payton's passing records. He is his find. Confirmed by the scouting department last year.

Sean Payton went to the same college and had been watching Romo. He convinced BP to bring him in.

Also, I believe I heard that right after Payton got the New Orleans coaching gig he contacted Dallas about acquiring Romo in a trade. Parcells said thanks but no thanks.

Wonder if we would have gotten Drew Brees then? Guess sometimes things do happen for a reason...

I thank Bill Parcells for sitting Romo on the bench and letting him learn from Testaverde and Bledsoe, the way it should be done. If Romo had been thrown in too early, we'd still be looking for a QB.

Exactly. Romo would have been a total disaster if he went in too early. Just looking at those early preseason games, he played like his hair was on fire.

I don't think he would have been a disaster, he just has it

Im not going to lie. I never even considered him to be a future starter.

He was Bartel to me

I also wanted Derrick Johnson, Mike Williams, and Jarvis Moss

I will never be a GM

It's funny looking back. I fully admit that I was pumped about getting Henson and although I was familiar with Romo I didn't care much about him at all. I figured he was a practice squad guy at best. Well, I kept reading the training camp reports over and over about how Romo was outperforming Henson and I couldn't believe it. I believe it now. :)

I wanted DJ as well. And I never thought anything of Romo. Although I do remember hearing some buzz about him, and then he got us the come from behind win against Oakland in the preseason in 04 or 05. But I was still rooting for Henson to win the job.

Former Cowboys scout Jim Hess deserves a lot of the credit, too.

Larry Lacewell said in an interview last year that Payton and Hess were going crazy during the draft wanting Dallas to take Romo. They were both on the phone throughout the final couple of rounds trying to assure him that Dallas wanted him.

I don't remember the details, but apparently Romo had been invited to the combine that year to throw to the receivers. Hess was watching him and said he was better than most of the other QBs who were invited to work out. Payton, I'm sure, already knew about him. But it was the two of them that sold Parcells and Jerry on getting Romo.

In the 2006 off-season, Sean Payton (now head coach of the New Orleans Saints), offered a third round draft pick for Romo, but Jerry Jones refused, asking for no less than a second round draft pick.

seems we came close to losing Romo on a couple of occasions...

Holy crap. Cowboys fans would be jumping off bridges if all we got was a 2nd for him and he turned out to be this good for the Saints.
