The 1 reason why I want Tony Romo to play in a game before the end of the season

No. I disagree with the symbolism of playing him in a game for recognition. Romo has never been a universally loved player. He has been overly criticized for much of his career. Heck, some people who have spoken out against him most also deny he has been overly criticized. It would be exactly like Stephen A. Smith thanking him for being a Dallas Cowboy--and would be just as false.

It is supremely disingenuous to shower the man with what amounts as diluted honor. Certainly some people, both attending the game(s) and watching on television, would congratulate Romo for what he has meant and done for the franchise. Those people would mean it. Other people would not. The gesture would be hollow in every sense of the word for that reason.

No. In my opinion, Romo will play this season if Prescott cannot for whatever reason.. Let that be the reason for playing his final season in Dallas. Let it be strictly for football reasoning alone. Let him do his job as he has always done and done well without being subjected to a mockery of sincerity.

Allow him proper respect at the time he returns to the franchise and retires as a Dallas Cowboy. By that time, the only people taking notice would be the only ones who would care any way. And that would be fitting.

well I disagree completely. A lot of us are ticket holders that attend games and have been there for every moment of Romo's time. His season and his career in Dallas was taken away from him when he got injured.

It would be great if Romo could come into the fourth quarter of the Detroit game and play if we have the 1 seed locked up. I don't mean come in and hand off and smile and wave, I mean play and be in a situation where it means something still because detroit is going to be playing for the division.

Many times in the past this has happened where guys get in for one last time. I think Romo deserves to get into the game if we have the 1 seed wrapped up vs Detroit. I hate the fact that I will never see him play in a cowboys uniform at the stadium again. that is terrible after all the ups and downs.

They did it for Montana after his multiple injuries cost him his job to steve young in 92, ironically on monday night football vs Detroit. They brought him into play to get some reps in case he was needed in the playoffs and he led them right down the field and scored. The home crowd loved it and they got to say a goodbye to Joe and he did the same, one final moment.

I believe Romo deserves the same here. You can say people don't like him or whatever, but people on the internet or watching in their living room 1000's of miles away do not mean Crap to me....Those of us in the stadium through the years have always loved him and he has been the energizing source for this franchise for 10 years. This moment would be great.

If Dallas has a comfortable lead in their last game against Philadelphia then Romo can come in and hand the ball off or make safe throws to finish the win. Other than that he has no business playing. He should be treated like every other backup quarterback. This team has serious goals that are within reach at this point, and the team comes first. The coaches aren't going to tamper with that.

and if the 1 seed is locked up before kickoff vs Detroit on monday night football there is zero reason not to give Romo some snaps at home one final time in the second half. Zero reasons not to.

I understand but the moment would be great for you, for me, and others who feel as you do about Romo. Thing is, everyone attending the game do not feel the same way about Romo's time with the franchise as you do. Montana was universally loved by 49er fans. That's not the case with Romo and a number of Cowboy fans--some of whom I'm sure are ticket holders such as yourself. Their respective receptions of gratitude would be far from equal. I respect that you couldn't care less how other people don't like Romo but I simply would feel the moment should be genuine for the man. He deserves that much.

You are ignorant on both the way Romo has been treated at the stadium and what went on in sf in 91 and 92 with Steve Young and Joe Montana.

Romo would get a standing deafening ovation from the AT&T Stadium crowd and there is zero chance he wouldn't.

Just a question.

What if he is still here next year. How does that make the gesture pointless.

theebs I am not a ticket holder like you but I have attended games at Texas Stadium and ATT Stadium. I have talked with PLENTY of fellow Cowboy fans over the years at the games. Neither of us are ignorant. Our opinions differ.

Edit: I'm also aware of the Young/Montana dynamic in San Francisco.

Sounds nice, but not a good idea. We don't want our starting QB sitting around twittling his thumbs for 3 weeks. I guarantee we lose our first playoff game.

I'd love to give Tony Romo a grand send off, but not at the expense of our playoff success. Tony can chill on the sidelines.

He has never been anything but loved at the stadium. I have never heard him boo'd a single time. Never once through the years. if you talked to people at the stadium that didn't like him, good for you. I have people that sit next to me that have been up and down through the years but they never boo'd him and always cheered for him.

If you do not like him and think he is not universally loved whatever that means, fine. If you won't be in the stadium vs detroit don't worry about it. I will be and I would love to experience that moment one last time with romo. In fact if Romo could hit witten for a td one final time in the stadium that would be a great ending to the era and the team could go to philly and let sanchez play or Dak the whole way through.

and yes you are being ignorant about it and not remembering what went on in SF when they switched to young and montana didn't like it and fans their were caught in the middle. That is a scenario where people took sides but in the end, in that moment Everyone cheered for montana when he came in for one last time at home.

Some fans: Romo needs to go, he's too expensive to keep as a back up. He hasn't done anything for us in the past 10 years. He's done. He sucks, always has.

Same fans: I hope Romo doesn't go to an NFC team. I hope he goes to a team that stinks. I hope he doesn't go to a team with a great support cast. I hope we don't have to play him in the Super Bowl cause he'll light us up.

The amount of disrespect and selfishness our fan base has is unfathomable. In MY opinion, this man carried the franchise for the past 10 years, owns most of the passing records for the Cowboys, but somehow, all the losses are his fault and his alone. A lot of people like to throw out the argument that Romo shouldn't feel bad because he has $100 million reasons not to but I wish I could find the interview when they asked him how it would feel if he won another SuperBowl for another team or when he broke down after the refs screwed us over at Lambeau Field.

He has a life 99.9% of the world can only dream about:
-Undrafted, underdog fighting to become the franchise QB for the biggest sports team in the world
-Hot wife, beautiful kids, millions of dollars
But yet, all he wanted was to bring the trophy home for his team.

A proper sendoff is the least we can do.
He carried the team where? I'd like to know, because if Super Bowls were involved, I would have liked to be there. The fact is, he's an undrafted player for a reason. He didn't have that IT factor in big games. He shrunk just like his pedigree. Big boys stand up in big games. The same goes for Dak. If he can't take us places in the next 4 years, then my mind shifts to the next QB. It's about WINS in this league, that's what it's about. We care about the winners. I wonder why no one talks about all the great players of the 80s Dallas had on their team. Oh yeah, they didn't win crap.

So no send off, no nothing. You have 100 million things in your pocket that's a great send off. Where was Indianapolis send off with the greatest QB in history, Manning?

Dak not playing the 4th quarter of one game would ruin him for the playoffs? I don't think so especially when he would play the next week vs philly. Not really hard to understand.

I'm sure Jerry feels just as he indicated a few days ago when he stated he wants to ensure that Romo will be ready and able to come in and relieve Dak in the event he gets hurt in the playoffs. In order to do just that, the team will be required to afford him some play time to come in whenever the time and situation permits.

It's still a business, however, and that will have to come first rather than take a chance on having him come in and chance upsetting the momentum that is already set in motion. I believe it'll likely come when it's a game that doesn't bear much importance for upsetting any playoff or home field opportunities.

It's only operating appropriately for business to come first before any consideration of friendship and/or appreciation to enter into the picture. Primarily, that must be the #1 concern and obligation of any GM, first and foremost.

If you do not comprehend my stance on Romo after so many years and posts on this site... well I understand that you may not be aware of the proper definition of the word "ignorant."

I sat beside or near fans dressed in Cowboy colors at games booing at Romo. For example, I was sitting in the endzone seats during the 49er game two years ago when Romo threw multiple interceptions. I heard a smattering of boos and they were not coming from the people dressed in red.

Here's a question though. Do you think Romo is universally loved by Cowboy fans?

You can remember him by going to Youtube and finding him there. This is a business. And those players you mentioned, Montana & Young, won Super Bowl titles. You get recognized as a QB for Super Bowl titles unless you broke every record in the NFL.

Oh man that'd be awesome if he started the last game or 2 if we have home field locked up. Not only to give him the proper respect but just to see what he's still got.
It could help his trade value

No, YOU can remember him by going to youtube. I will be in the stadium as I have been and I want to experience that moment.

A business? You work for the team? It's not a business to any of us unless we work for the team. We are fans and we have emotional attachments to teams and players. Saying a player shouldn't be recognized or remembered unless they won a super bowl is so foolish it requires no response.

You won't be there so don't worry about it.

Nice sentiment, and I agree with you about him probably being our best player for a stretch here. Really, though, what matters to Tony, I'm sure, is the chance to compete for Superbowls. After all he's accomplished in the league, one more ovation would be a nice gesture, but it's probably not necessary.
