Well. If they can develop and a few of them turn into good players. That bodes very well for the cowboys in the future.

I’m still not ready to give up on most of them.

Especially Overshown. If he fully recovers from the ACL tear. He will be a starting LB for us. A good one. IMO

Also. It’s way too early on Mazi. Yeah he isn’t good right now. But I still feel like he can develop into a good NT.
They may all become stars, but generally its hard to win without contributions from at least the first 3 rounds. Thats what impressive about still being 12-5.

The cooks and Gilmore trades skew it for sure.

We got two quality starters with 2 of our draft picks.

Yes they’re old and Gilmore who knows how long he has left.

But still this season. We got 2 high quality starters with draft picks. So that’s helping big time.

Imagine our defense if Gilmore wasn’t picked up and Diggs still got hurt?

Yeah this is simply not true. What contenders hit in the first 3 rounds? Who’s relying on rookie contributors? 49ers sure as hell aren’t. Philly has Carter who was a top 10 pick…Lions probably for this with Laporta, Gibbs and the rest of those guys but if you have a bunch of rookies starting you are not a real contender.

Cowboys past draft success is what allowed them to trade for vets.

Schoonmaker is playing, so it must have been a need.
Hendershot took back the second spot when he came back and that is the most disappointing part about Schoon. Was a second round draft pick and Hendershot was only on his second year and was hurt most of the first half. That spot was Schoon’s to grab and never let go. Second round draft pick owned by an UDFA. Going to get even more exciting next year if Stephens comes back and is able to play like he left off in the preseason. Maybe it helped a little because we had a lot of injuries at TE this year, but just seems like it could’ve been spent on a better round 2 draft pick. I still think the main issue with the draft last year was they picked for Need and reached on first and second round picks, determined to get the position no matter what.

I expected more from Mazi for sure. Some guys do come on in years 2 and 3, like Ferguson.
Not sure if Ferguson is the best example of this. I think if he had the playing time as a rookie he could have had almost as many big plays as he has had this year. But you are correct in some players taking a few years for it to click. However im not sure this will be the case with Mazi. He was brought in to do a simple task of using his weight/strength to stop the run up the middle. Not sure if next year mazi at sub 300 (which is where they report they are wanting him) is gonna suddenly be much stronger and better at stopping the run. I think this guys a bust but its just me.

Ok that’s a fair argument for the draft cooks and Gilmore the rest are average at best except maybe overshown we’ll see
I’ll be surprised if there here beyond rookie contract barring injury

Ferguson is not a good example at all. LOL. Ferguson had a lot of great plays his rookie year.

They could've used the 2nd rounder to fill another position. Like I said above, I wasn't for taking tight end there because I thought Hendershot and Ferg showed enough last year to not at least blow a 2nd rounder on it. But maybe they felt different. I honestly don't get it. They were looking at La Porta so they most def wanted to do something different there.

I can't even say they reached for need because they didn't "need" a 1 tech they had Hanskins and didn't need a tight end with Schoon.

Realistically there was no one we could've drafted this year that would've started.

Schoonmaker played 28 plays against Washington. Hendershot played 7 plays against Washington.

Nice try. Look up the three games before that. Much more snaps for Hendershot, just means they were giving the lower tiers more playing time In Washington.

That isn't what it means.
