Cowboys past draft success is what allowed them to trade for vets.
I agree. I’m just speaking directly to the premise of the OP which is that the cowboys are 12-5 without getting anything from their draft class. And while it’s true they aren’t getting much from the draft class. They did use draft assets to get two quality starting players this season.

Yeah I agree with that.

I don’t disagree I would’ve never taken a tight end on round 2. I don’t have a big board. They do and they followed their board. I just don’t think tight end was a need.

But I stand by there was no one in that second round that was gonna start for us.
They wouldn't have to start to be significant contributors.

I take it you mean that a player taken at our after our pick in the second. Well, only five picks after us so it's not a lot of choices. But Torrence would have started games for us if they were being honest about who was the best option given Zack's health issues.

Not late first rounders. Not on a good team. Schoon was never starting over Ferg and Mazi was never starting over Hanskins. Even if we took a guard they would never start over Tyler or Zack.
No one is talking about "starting". We're talking about "contributing". Mazi and Schoonmaker have played some, but they really have not contributed. That's an F grade on them their rookie year for being top 2 round draft picks.

They could've used the 2nd rounder to fill another position. Like I said above, I wasn't for taking tight end there because I thought Hendershot and Ferg showed enough last year to not at least blow a 2nd rounder on it. But maybe they felt different. I honestly don't get it. They were looking at La Porta so they most def wanted to do something different there.

I can't even say they reached for need because they didn't "need" a 1 tech they had Hanskins and didn't need a tight end with Schoon.

Realistically there was no one we could've drafted this year that would've started.
Huh? Cowboys definitely needed a young 1 tech DT. Long overdue. Hankins is old, gets injured and misses time......which is exactly what has happened. Cowboys needed a young but talented 1 tech. It's very disappointing to see Mazi with so much strength and quickness during college and training camp get absolutely stonewalled during the regular season game in and game out.

And they are getting more from the draft class than what people think.

Not sure if Ferguson is the best example of this. I think if he had the playing time as a rookie he could have had almost as many big plays as he has had this year. But you are correct in some players taking a few years for it to click. However im not sure this will be the case with Mazi. He was brought in to do a simple task of using his weight/strength to stop the run up the middle. Not sure if next year mazi at sub 300 (which is where they report they are wanting him) is gonna suddenly be much stronger and better at stopping the run. I think this guys a bust but its just me.
Yeah Mazi has been disappointing. I'm not sure I have heard anyone really be able to explain where he is going wrong except that he is the last to move. I then saw Hankins in and he was the last to move so it made me wonder if he is supposed to make the OL declare their intention first or something since his primary job is to occupy two blockers.

It's too early to call any a bust but it is sad that none are really contributors.

No way man the top 3 round picks are supposed to contribute Year 1 I was told. Brown doesn't see the field much, all I know about Moody is he missed a game winning FG against the Browns and Latu, LaWHO? zilch, nothing.

So now we’re going to the ‘look at other teams‘ card to justify our bad draft? LOL

I am comparing our draft to what has worked for the Cowboys the last several years. We have had some great draft picks lately, including late rounders, who contributed immediately.

I hope Will McClay and Stephen were out of the office and Jerry sneaked in and made some pics for old times sake. Otherwise, I really don’t know what else to say about last year’s draft compared to the other ones we’ve had.

you win some, you lose some, I guess

How about this draft? Anyone care to critique it? I am guessing not much contribution from these players, who were most likely picked before the Cowboy players.

No what we're saying is after 1 year we don't know if it's a bad draft because if you look at most teams drafts for this season most of those picks are not going to contribute much. Try and keep up.
