The 30-year old Olympic virgin...

I don't know if I agree with you. Men might have wanted their wives to be untried but most men were not untried. As the men were not having sex with themselves (except of course for the Royal Navy), then they were having them with women to whom they were not married.

I wonder though of those giving her props, how many were untried when they got married. Probably at most 1%.
What does it matter?

It takes a certain amount of discipline to abstain from sex and for many that's considered noble, even if people choose not to do the same.

I'm not in that 1% lol, but I give her props because I understand how difficult it is to stay with that conviction for that long. I really do respect that.

I remember reading nothing but respectful articles.

I remember other players saying they were going to do all they could to ensure he was no longer untried.

In this thread, the number is at least 6.25 percent.

Notice though that people are saying props to her but if she were a guy, she would be laughed at for being a loser who couldn't get a woman to get on her back for him.

Sad, but true.

I don't think that your friends and fellow players making a little light of the situation qualifies as mockery and humiliation. It's not like people were calling him gay or a bad guy or anything.

I'm not disputing that, because it is true for the most part, but do people really think guys like AC Green and Tebow couldn't get girls to sleep with them if they really wanted to? I think that is absurd. I am convinced in this day and age that anybody can get a sexual partner if they really wanted to, even if they had to illegally pay for it, it is available to those who really want it.

I didn't wait until marriage, but I've only ever had sex with one person and had been dating for a good while before it happened. My wife and I could have the best sex in the world or the worst for all we know, but we're both very happy with that part of our marriage. Like everything in marriage, in takes time and effort to make it work and I don't think it requires "practice" before marriage. Our sex life is much, much better in marriage than it ever was before.

Why don't people ever talk about practicing joint finances? Or child-rearing? Or emotional intimacy? The only thing people ever talk about needing to figure out before marriage is sex, and it comes off as just an excuse to do it. Most marriages don't fail solely because of sex, sex usually stops because of other bigger issues.

I gotta say that's a terrific post.

Lack of sex is probably a symptom of something worse but still, it is rare someone comes to my office and says their sex was great but they are divorcing anyway.

I don't doubt it. Many people, women especially, find it difficult to have sex with marrital problems hanging around. People who have great sex are people who have solid marriages on other fronts.

I would wager that the number of divorces due to flat out sexual incompatibility is pretty low.
