The bad habit of running it back with the same people and same strategy

If the team is healthy next year and improves the run game further, I could see them going back to the playoffs but that is about it. MM is always going to get outcoached once he gets there.
I agree with alot of your points concerning MM and Jerry but disagree with the above comment.

Although health was a factor, they were getting pummeled before the major injuries set in and the inability to run AND stop the run isn't going to be a quick fix....the trenches on both sides of the ball are suspect.

Don't forget the Commanders ascension and the strong possibility of the Giants drafting a top 2 QB in the draft to make the East that much harder.

Jerry's refusal to aquire top FAs might relegate us to another bad season in 2025

There is something to be said for continuity from year to year. I think it can be overlooked in today’s world of professional sports. Look at the Cavs. They didn’t do anything to or a splash in preseason other than resign Spida, which admittedly was a big deal. However, they brought the same team back that looked a piece or two short of a Finals appearance and they’ve started off 26-4.

However, Jerry isn’t talented enough, knowledgeable enough, or in the mindset to prioritize winning a title over squeezing every cent of profit he can from our fanbase and the media exposure the Cowboys generate to put a team on the field that will challenge for a SB. We are in “Purgatory Hell” and I’m ironically aware of embracing that contradictory term. I can’t stand that dude.

I’m looking at the big picture. Glad you’re enjoying the here and now.
Unfortunately there is no longer a “ big picture “ as far as fans are concerned .

Their goal is remaining relevant and a playoff contender, not a SB contender. That’s about all we can hope for from this ownership.

That’s why they are willing to “run it back.”

Rambo, I appreciate your enthusiasm for the team and I support your right to express whatever opinions you have about the Cowboys. I want them to win too. And I always enjoy a Cowboys win. In the here and now, this team has certainly played better.

But what I’m addressing here is the big picture over multiple years. This organization appears completely comfortable with some regular season success followed by a wild card win every five years. There seems to be no hunger to achieve more than that.

If that makes you happy, enjoy.
Well put, Bob. I agree. It just looks like Jerry's satisfied. The look on his face after beating Tampa was one of contentment. It's like he said "Ok,
we're good enough. People are noticing us again. We're relevant." I want to continue to get better, I'm not satisfied. I want to stockpile picks, make smart trades and sign 4-5 key FAs and BUILD upon this late year success. I just hope Jerry isn't satisfied.

They sure have a hot hand right now. Amazing that they are playing so well with backups and Lamb playing hurt.
While they have had a hot hand there is some factors contributing. One is a weaker part of their schedule , several key starters returning on defense which has been a key difference.

I’m not sure we’d stack up quite as well against the more Elite teams in the league. But it has been inspiring the fight the team has put up recently while it’s unclear any impact it might carry over into next season except for saving our coaching staff.

Resent your mental clocks.
Next year, it will be 30 years since 1995.
It’s going to be much longer. As long as there’s breath in Jethro. Could be at least another 10-20 years. And then it will take a few years to recover , at least .

I doubt the Cowboys see another Super Bowl in my lifetime and most likely will be closer to 2050 and beyond assuming the heirs either sell the franchise or hire real football people which doesn’t guarantee success either.

How can you not enjoy it? It's awesome. They literally beat the crap out of the Bucs. How do you think their receivers and Mayfield feel in the training room today?
Because playing the role of spoiler sucks, and gives me no satisfaction...nor should it you because the demented one now things we have what it takes

What do you think the Eagles are? Are they a more elite team?

I love the way they are playing. It's outstanding.
Absolutely....but I have watched this movie over the last 30 years and know how it ends...this year it's end of year meaningless games players/coaches giving false hope to lure us back in. You are an extremely intelligent poster, can you not see the forest through trees or are the trees to tall and blocking the overall scenery? LOL

I see a lot of things and it is awesome to see them playing so well. I love it that we finish with the Eagles and the Commanders. I think that we just ruined the Bucs season and have a shot at doing the same to the Eagles and the Commanders. This Cowboys defense is handing out serious pain. The Eagles qbs are in danger. It's going to be interesting to see if Barkley can come up with another big game.

Commanders aren't great. They could easily have 2 more losses if not 3 or 4. They will play a 2nd place schedule next year and regress. Quinn isn't head coach material.

they can fire and hire to their hearts content.
until the gm changes...nothing changes.
the gm who hired garrett...was the gm who hired mccarthy....who will hire the next hc nobody will like.
the current gm does not know how to build a championship roster.
its amazing to me that mccarthy got 3 12 win seasons with this gm.
if jerry the owner wants to fire someone...the gm is the first move he should make.
but he's not going to.

One of the many bad things about having your owner also serve as your GM is the really, really bad habit of keeping the same people around that have never done much in the playoffs when they had the chance.

Our owner falls in love with all the decisions and draft picks his GM makes, even when those people have accomplished very little when It mattered most. Then follows that up with the same people and same roster strategy that got you nowhere in the playoffs…again.

In short, why keep the same cast of key players and coaches when they collectively have done very little to make the Cowboys even close to a championship? Why is it so important to keep the same players and coaches who have accomplished almost nothing in the playoffs?

”Running it back” with the same key people and expecting different results is the habit of unaccountable leaders. They take few risks and would rather stick with what they feel safe with than be aggressive to get better. We’ve seen this with Tony Romo, Dak Prescott, Zeke Elliott, Jason Garrett, and now Mike McCarthy.

Let me make a couple of clarifications. Tony Romo and Dak Prescott have been good QBs. Not great but good enough IF and I mean a HUGE IF…you surround them with the right roster support. Our FO is apparently incapable of understanding this. Neither of those QBs have ever been capable of strapping a team on its back and winning playoff games by themselves. NEWS FLASH: Unless you are Patrick Mahomes or Joe Burrow, that’s mostly true about every NFL QB. And Mahomes wouldn’t have won the SB last year without that great KC defense.

So when this past off-season came along after the worst playoff loss in Cowboys history, I hoped our front office would wake up and say, “I’m tired of being good enough to make the playoffs and then accomplish nothing. We need a new approach.“

I had hoped they would fire McCarthy, let Dak’s contract expire, see if they could draft or trade for a different QB when it seemed clear the window for Dak to lead this team was closing. By the way, I’m not “anti-Dak” - I think the people saying he’s garbage are blinded by how much money he makes or are just so frustrated by the team’s failure, he becomes the focus. He’s good but just not a great QB and needs a strong running game to be most effective.

Unless I’m not seeing clearly, this front office is headed toward another “run it back“ with mostly the same key people that have given us 1 wild card playoff win in 5 years. Why should we expect any different results next year?
all true bob, and probably what will happen.
They passed on BB as did many other NFL teams, which is bizarre, it wasnt all tom, tom was a bus driver in beginning.
I wanted bill and if not him a new hot OC. but I doubt they go that route.

It's all about what makes Jerry and his mutant son "comfortable." I should probably be nicer to Stephen, it's Xmas; on second thoughts, forget it....
