I’d argue last year there was probably some relief on our owners behalf when Cooper Rush looked inept against Egirls.

That certainly made the case easier to bring back Dak maybe sooner than we should.

The last thing Jethro wanted was another Romo/ Dak situation.

Go back to 2016, which with a 11-1 record it was such a bad public opinion decision to bring Romo back but any solid GM would have done because you always put the players who provide best opportunity to win on the field if healthy.
Rush was inept the entire time. They were one of the worst offenses in the league.

All I know is if Dak fails this season, they best draft a QB in the top rounds. Even if they extend Dak for 2 years, or whatever.

However we know this will not happen. If Dak gets extended. It will be for 4 years. Therefore, no QB will be drafted for at least 3 years after this season.
Unless a late round pick for a back up QB.
they should be drafting a Qb in the top 3 rounds regardless of how Dak plays next year. Every team should be doing this every 3-5 years so they can actually DEVELOP a QB as their next starter as well as have quality talent to fill in for the injured starter if need be

Cooper Rush and Will Griers talent level is 3rd tier and they will neither get through a playoff run nor become a starter

How about somebody like Tanner McKee? Taken in the 6th round. 6'6", 231 lb., Stanford. Fast release. Described as "one of the most accurate quarterbacks in the 2023 draft". Possesses "lightening-quick processing". A player with far more upside than any of Dallas's backup JAGs.
You can watch him ride the bench for the Eagles, if he makes it out of camp. His lightning-quick processing is counter balanced by his cement-filled feet. The last thing we need is a slow-*** QB if our line doesn't hold up.

Yes, but they were winning with a mistake free offense and dominating defense until they ran into Egirls. And unfortunately there was talk about that type of formula continuing on.

If we’d of kept winning it would have created more controversy . Perhaps not as much as 11 straight wins did for Dak in 2016 but the bigger point is it’s not the drama our owner is wanting. You missed the focus of my thought .

I’m fine with backups in the 5th round. I’m not looking for a backup in the first or second round.
Who said anything about first round? 2nd I could handle if they loved the guy. But honestly, if they saw a Rogers in the first round with like the 25th pick I would never pass on him. Even if I had Dak. You could sit Rogers for a year and or two then trade Dak for big picks.

You don’t see a Rodgers in the first round. If you do he’d be the first overall pick in the draft.

And who said anything about the first round? That’s what we are discussing…..

Rogers was the around the 20th pick in the draft. Brees top of the 2nd round. Mahomes #10.

You do you. If you want to pass on a QB you think is a franchise QB in the draft cuz you dont want to rattle the feathers of your present franchise QB, then thats up to you.

I wouldnt pass on any of them. I would be QB university. Let the best man win and if they want 50 million Ill just trade them and bring up the next franchise QB I took 2 years ago in the 2nd round.

And no that doesnt mean taking a QB every year in the first. It means not passing a guy you think is special or has great value.

You’re missing the point. You don’t know Rodgers is going to be Rodgers. For every Rodgers there’s a hundred busts….get real.

Your missing the point. Its about continuing to draft QB's.

Not sure why you are against it. Is it your homer tendencies not to want to upset the current QB?

If you want to pass on a franchise QB as not to upset the current one, good for you.

I would NEVER pass up an a guy I thought could be a stud QB. There are certain positions you just dont pass on and QB is one of them.

What mistake free? We were ranked 22nd or worst in every offensive category. Offense needs to.score and we struggled. You might think we dominated time of posession and we didn't.

Defense gave up average of 13.4 points per game. That would be 3 points better than any defense last year. Give me that and throw 2 interceptions per game and you still win a bunch.

The first time a team scored more than 20 points we lost. If you build a ravenesque or Steele curtain defense you could win a championship. We weren't that type of defense.

So who did the Cowboys pass up that ended up being a stud since Dak has been drafted? I can’t wait to hear this.

These guys say draft a QB early but get mad when they bust…..
The qbs that I liked were Hooker and the one from Purdue. It just didn't happen because Dak is going to be around for a long time and they have solid backups. The Cowboys would have had to have taken Hooker at 58 to get him. The Cowboys were better off taking Schoonmaker and Overshown than taking a qb.

Wow. All of that has nothing to do with the overall point I was making into why Jethro doesn’t want QB controversies. It’s why he doesn’t draft QB’s to be heir apparent while he has his franchise QB.

Jethro is clueless. QB controversy or not. for him its maximizing profits each year and raising ticket prices based on one good year. and creating hope and keeping fans interested.

He actually doesn't use a previous season's success to jack the rates. He's like the other 31, keep going until they say stop. It is always about supply/demand for the premium seats.
