The Brandin Cooks trade doesn't solve the problem. It is the problem!

Maybe it says something to their talent level, and not necessarily why teams want to trade them away. A good offer can't be turned down at times. Texans want to move in another direction.
Many other players are not retained in FA, and go to numerous teams, 4 or more. But yet they still can contribute.
Texans may just want to clear some cap space. As did Dallas with Cooper last year.
He was a salary dump, plain and simple. Texans don't even have a QB and are rebuilding. They gave him to us to get his salary off the books. Good move for both.

No wonder this thread grew to ten pages in less than three hours. I was a DeAndre Hopkins proponent but the Brandin Cooks acquisition is a quality one. He is definitely qualified as a receiving 'offensive weapon'.
I'm in shock as to how many don't think much of this trade. It's a frickin' steal. Well done, Jerry. And I do not say that often.

in 2019 he has not had a concussion since. Not sure it is a 1 year rental since he has 2 remaining years on his deal before he becomes a FA.
Yes, it gives us options. He could play great and we decide to extend him or let him play out his deal. Or if he plays poorly, we can cut him without taking a hit. Or one of our young receivers could step up, making it OK to release him. I like having that second year for flexibility.

When Brandin Cooks joins the Dallas Cowboys, he will join his 5th team in his 9-year career.

Saints, Pats, Rams, Texans, and now the Cowboys. A lot of folks on here are caught up by a name they recognize and a player some wanted during the season, last year. And I'll be the first to admit that Brandin Cooks is a NICE player, he isn't what this team needs.

This team needs an offensive weapon. A "game wrecker" of sorts. Not another nice WR that will fight for number 2 touches in our offense.

It points to the obvious blind spot in the front office that most of here can see but some are blinded too as well.

IMO settling for anything short of DHop or OBJ is just that. Settling.
I think your sights are set a little bit low. Neither OBJ or Hopkins are the players that they used to be.

We ought to put a pin in this post as I fearfully believe it will be proven true at season’s end.

On second thought, perhaps that’s being too critical. Other shortcomings are likely to rear their ugly head.

What big play is Cooks known for last season? I'll wait....I do remember him giving a similar obj temper Tamtrum about wanting to be traded and then even after not being traded taking 2 more games off for "personal reasons." Every one is so focused on the stats. What did being a top ranked offense get us the last few years. Oh that's right a participation trophy. Stats are overrated. Moments matter.
Waiting over.....

Cooks exploded in the Texans season finale vs INDY w/ 5 catches for 106 yds and a TD.

This really isn't hard to look up, dude.

True that bro. My issue with Cooks is his age, wear-n-tear and lack of height (5'10"). I have several Texans fans cousins who are glad he's no longer on their Texans team considering his age, wear-n-tear and the amount of money he was getting paid ($18+ mil in 2022 for only 699 yards receiving and only 3 TDs) and scheduled to get paid these next two years.
I just think he’ll help us, and I hear the Texans are paying 6 mill of his salary.

Fanbase is never happy. People are screaming for a speedy receiver, get one and it's not enough. Look at what Cooks was traded for outside of the Cowboys trade, 1st and 2nd rd picks, he is a very valuable receiver.
Ice cream is too cold.

Lol.

It’s a good trade.

I think the contract has an out after 2023.

It’s basically a one year deal?

Can we do away with the myth that MM is going to turn this team into a “run first” team please?!

When MM said his offense next season will run the ball more, I truly believe he was referring to the many times throughout the latter part of the season when the defense made a stand in the 4th quarter of games and KM’s offense couldn’t eat a little clock and get a 1st down to basically win a game. There were at least 2 times that the offense went 3 and out in this type of situation and barely took any time off the clock and the defense got absolutely no rest! I believe this is what MM was referring to when he said KM wouldn’t run the ball. I can recall even the announcers talking about how little time the Cowboys took off the clock only to give the opposing team another opportunity in the waning minutes of a game.

MM is not and never has been a run first coach, besides the fact that he himself has admitted that he is taking over the offense and installing more of his Gulf Coast/West Coast tendencies into it. How many West Coast offensive teams were run first? That goes against the tenants of the system (short and intermediate passes along with short passes to running back((long handoffs) to open up the running game ne then take shots down field). So by no means do I think he ever intended to make this a “run first” team. He simply wants to be able to run the ball effectively enough to run out the clock at the end of games, instead of throwing passes and stopping the clock and going three and out like KM did quite a few times last season.

BTW, Cooks will fit extremely well into this system. He will compliment CD and Gallup very well. The guy is still faster running routes and creates separation probably better than anyone not named CD on this team, which is exactly what Prescott needs as he is terrible at throwing WR’s open.

To those wanting DHop, how well did Dak play with Dez? A big contested catch 50/50 ball possession receiver? Not very well as I recall, so why would it work now with Hopkins?

when I look at the receiving core, I think Cook will be a big boost to this team not just with his individual play but with the pressure he will be able to take away from Lamb. Cook still have very good speed to make plays over the top and should be able to clear out for Lamb. Last season in Houston Cook was surrounded by bad players and it was much easier for defense to put a double team on him without concerns of anyone else in that group to beat them. In Dallas both Lamb and Cook should be able to benefit each other

I’m ok with the Cooks trade. Value wise it’s a good trade. But I was really hoping for Hopkins.

Beckham spent last year out of football drugging himself up on airplanes, and has 2 bad wheels. At his peak he was a gamebreaker, but it's fair to question how much he has left. He hasn't gone over 1000 yards since 2019, or over 1100 yards since freaking 2016.

Cooks isn't a gamebreaker, but all the guy has done is produce.

It should have a greater effect than bringing in Hilton did, but Cooks is a better receiver at this point. I kind of look at it as 2016 Cole Beasley with the ability to go deep. That's probably a poor comparison, but Cooks is a prolific receivers, usually average 80-90 catches per year. We used Beasley to attack teams underneath because they wanted to take away the vertical game with Bryant (particularly) and Williams. We can now make teams pay for trying to do the same with Lamb and Gallup. Now, I don't know how much McCarthy is going to change up how he uses the receivers, how much West Coast he's going to incorporate, but it's certainly not going to hurt not going to hurt to have another receiver who has shown he can put up big numbers. If he's healthy (which he mostly has been), this gives us what we were hoping to see in 2021 with Cooper, Lamb and Gallup ... and never got to see because of injury.

Well, yeah. We have to overcome our QB. I know that. That's why I didn't say we'd definitely win the game.

You'd be adding a big time playmaker on both sides of the ball. (Gilmore is an addition on both teams)

I think we'd have a chance. This current team has no chance.
We’ll see what Hopkins actually has this year.
