The case against taking Zeke at 4

Now having said all of that Mcfaddin is in a contract year so expect him to light it up. He should really go above and beyond this year to prove he has another 2 yr contract in him. Which bodes well for us.

how do you know Zeke is not the next Emmitt - I have not seen him play a NFL game ?

Rookie year - 241 for 937 yards

92 373 carries 1700 + yards total yards - SUPER BOWL
93 283 carries 1400 + yards total yards - SUPER BOWL

95 377 carries 1700 + yards total yards - SUPER BOWL

in fact in 7 seasons he carried the ball over 300 times

2 of his 15 seasons he carried the ball less than 250 times

yeah I like how you pick E Dickerson who ever wrote that little piece of work is terrible

Although he played in just nine games with the Colts that year, he still managed to gain 1,011 yards to finish the season with 1,288.[6] Also, he spearheaded a late season Colts run that helped the team to their first winning season (and first playoff berth) in 10 years.

In 1988, Dickerson, with 1,659 yards rushing, became the first Colt to lead the league in rushing since Alan Ameche in 1955.
This would mark the apogee of Dickerson's career with the Colts (although he would gain 1,311 yards rushing in 1989).
Also, 1989 was the year that he passed the 10,000 yard mark, becoming the fastest player ever to do so (91 games), accomplishing the feat faster than greats like Jim Brown (98 games), Barry Sanders (103 games), Emmitt Smith (106 games), and LaDainian Tomlinson (106 games).[8]
By 1989, he had set a new NFL record with seven straight seasons of more than 1,000 yards rushing, and led the league for four of those seasons

I don't know he not the next Emmitt but statistically he's mostly likely not. Most RBs these days do not want more than 230-240 carries a year because that makes them more marketable in their second and third contract. If we load EE with 320 carries a year statistically he will be done in 4 yrs.

lol not really. There is no good case for taking any running back at 4. Because you just can't get the production that the pick requires.

Why? Who said so? You look at all the RB busts over the past 5 years and none were drafted by teams that are committed to running the ball as much as Dallas. Look at the formula from 2014 and tell me the top RB in the draft wouldnt help this team. Im sorry you cant trust a McFadden or Morris or Dunbar. If both are up and down, Dallas will be signing journeyman RBs like last year. Who else are you going to get with value at that spot if Ramsey is gone? Bosa? Buckner? I dont think so. The past 2 DEs Dallas has drafted haven't made an impact until later in the year. Elliott would be the RB that Dallas wanted in the 1st round last year but never was able to draft.

There is a reason why backs in the modern era do not take much more than 240 carries a season because it gives them the best chance for a long 8-10 career. I think alot of people will be disappointed when EE is not the pick.

Worse still it'll be Bosa and most of the board will be apoplectic.

I wouldnt be disappointed because there is a lot of depth in this year's RB class, but I would be disappointed if Dallas drafted another DE that will take 12 games to make an impact. For the record, I want Ramsey but Elliott would be the my 2nd choice.

It's easy to find the average carries for NFL RB a year since 2005 do you have google ? If I'm Zeke no way you load me up with 320 carries a year. It's bad for your longevity.

If we were to make a bad mistake and take Zeke at 4 then there would be a lot of pressure to make him a bell cow and load him up with 300 plus carries a yr which is not realistic. 15 carries a game is 240 a year that what you should expect.

If JJ's goal, is to return to be as good as we were in the early 90"s...consider this...

With as much credit that was given to the Triplets, neither of them would have been what they were without a dominate offensive line. When that line started to falter or was absent, it meant the end of the Triplets.
Irvin's career ended because he had to go over the middle into the teeth of an Eagles defense and got slammed into the concrete turf called Veterans Stadium, because of his QB not having enough time. Aikman had to end his career because of the brutal hits he was taking both trying to stay in the pocket and the unfortunate times he was forced to run. (ie, LaVar Arrington). And Emmitt's career basically came to an end on a hit from Roy Williams while playing for the Cardinals.
We have the dominate line, we have an elite quarterback and receiver once again. The only piece that is missing...is a truly elite running back. Our team from last year paid the price for this 4th overall pick....NOW USE IT!!! He's our's...!!!

now you think that just because he is picked at 4

there is lot of PRESSURE for him to carry the load 300 plus carries

why ?

where does that number come from profressor ?

Again a lot of people are going to be disappointed when Zeke is not the guy at 4 anyway. They think we could draft Zeke and run him 20-25 times a game its not going to happen. Even if we do draft him expect 15 touches a game.

Remind me...which SB was it that we had an only OK D?

Most SB teams have top ten defences. The model for SB winners has been to play great defense and have a good running game. Time to fix the defense. A lot RB could be productive behind this OL.
