ya dude, i heard they were talking about bringing in larry brown to be an assistant! are you kidding me?? they should have fired rivers and hired larry brown for insane money to be their head coach. if they would have done that, they would be heading to the finals for sure to get creamed by the spurs

Celtics have a 30 year old Hall of Famer in Garnett. Ray Allen may be best 3 point shooter in NBA. And Paul Pierce can create and is All Star calibre. They flat out are going to put some hurt on team.

Rondo at guard is a good player that can penetrate and kick off or finish.

I didn't think it was possible to get this worked up about pre-season basketball.

garnett is great ya, but when he plays duncan they usually either offset each other or duncan outplays him by setting up his teammates better. ya allen is great, but when he plays bowen he hides in the corner and whines to the refs, he is a pansy and gets powned by bruce, pluse parker is a better player right now.

ill give you pierce though, he is tough to guard even for bruce, but like i said, ginobili is unstoppable when he turns it on and he would offset pierce. and again, im pretty sure the last assistant on the spurs staff would outcoach doc rivers anyday. plus the spurs bench is deep, etc. if the celtics get to the finals this year it will only be because the east blows. the best teams in the east are still the pistons and the heat, when shaq is in shape and wade is healthy.

A lot of Ifs with Miami, but a healthy Wade and Shaq may cause issues to Celtics who lack a stud C. But Bulls showed that can be overcome.

and Detroit is on a down cycle. I saw a lot of majic tonight in the big 3 tonight. Mostly they are playing great defense. I think Spurs / Celtics is the likely Final. I think the Celtics have the chip on their shoulders.

The wild card here is going to be Ray Allen - this kid can flat out shoot it from 3. In the past Bowen on Allen. Bowen had all the studs. Now Allen has Garnett and Pierce. I can see tables turned. If you try and shade to Allen Garnett kills you inside or Pierce takes you off dribble. And tonight the point guard was neglected and Rondo and the backups shredded Cavs.

I have not been this pumped about the NBA in 20+ years.

Uconn Husky Season ticket holder 1972-1997. Spent my childhood watching Uconn grow into the Big East. Ray Allen is a very special player. Saw it early his frosh season.

I think it's good for the NBA to have Boston or New York at the top, especially in East.

who are the rest of their starters?

duncan > garnett
parker > ray allen
ginobili < or on some days = to pierce

and the spurs have depth and expirience after that, plus the best coach in the nba. the celtics dont

Duncan = Garnett, maybe + to Duncan in past

Allen > Parker. Allen 21.5 ppg career versus Parker 15.6, also better shooter

Pierce > Ginobli - Pierce 23.6 ppg career versus ginobli 13.7

Fact is Spurs depth in Bowen, Barry, Finley, Horry is very long in tooth. Celtics depth is younger and fresher come finals.

the difference between all three of the players i compared is that the celtics 3 are not big game players like the spurs big 3. and although the depth is getting older they are savy and come playoff times expirience is everything.

bruce always guards allen one on one so no one is gonna shade him. same goes for garnett, the one that worries me the most is paul pierce. but again, the spurs have never been a team that double teams, they are more about one on one defense and rotation to help your teammate out if he gets beat.

ps im super stocked about the season too, its gonna be sweet! the best chance the spurs have had to repeat since back in 2000(unfortunately duncan got hurt before the playoffs that year). cant wait for the season to start......in february, when the rodeo comes to town

Garnett is a beast out there - and running the court. Pierce can break you down off the dribble and score. And Ray Allen is 2nd best 3 point shooter in NBA history. I don't see this team getting stopped.

Even crazier is they are buying in to play defense.....

:laugh2:

even if they get out of the east, no team from the west is losing. well, maybe the mavs might. :laugh1:

spurs are gonna repeat, baby. GSG!

As Roger Waters once said,

The tide is turning.

Celtics break the old East weak tag, they are that dominant. Snicker now

Been a Dallas fan since I was 5. Living near Foxboro I can't help but be exposed to it daily.

I actually root against Pats - just able to step back and see what this dynasty doing is impressive. Pioli and BB are the best at all they do.

Wow - yesterday was the last time the NBA East teams were inferior to the West. Boston Beat down the Wizards all night. Garnett had a 20-19 points/rebound game and Pierce hit for 27. Allen was quite at 17 points and the Garden was rocking.

The Celics are back on the map. Look out West -

The first of many - this is a serious Basketball team to be reckoned with. They have mega offensive weapons and are playing great D.

Garnetts 19 rebounds is dominant.

Try and stop Allen and Pierce with Garnett in the post.

Boston 103, Washington 83

Preview - Box Score - Recap

By HOWARD ULMAN, AP Sports Writer
November 2, 2007

AP - Nov 2, 9:32 pm EDT
More Photos

BOSTON (AP) -- Kevin Garnett's dazzling debut with the Celtics gave their fans and long-suffering Paul Pierce plenty to celebrate.

Garnett had 22 points, 20 rebounds and five assists, Pierce scored 28 points and sparked Boston's take-charge rally in the first half, and the Celtics opened their promising season with a 103-83 victory over the Washington Wizards on Friday night.

Add 17 points from Ray Allen, another veteran newcomer, and the Celtics looked nothing like the teams Pierce played for in his first nine seasons with Boston. Those teams won just three playoff series.

Now, after offseason trades for Garnett and Allen, the Celtics are a popular choice to go far in the postseason. Not bad for a team that had the longest losing streak in its history last season, 18 games, and finished with its second-worst record, 24-58.

Garnett, Pierce, and Allen left the game to a standing ovation with 2:30 left and the score 98-75. Garnett and Pierce raised their right index fingers to the screaming crowd, then Garnett knelt in front of the bench and slapped hands with his teammates.

You had a great run, you now have an Eastern team that can flat out beat you.

You mean they cloned the Spurs and put the clone team in the Eastern Conference?

Boston has done nothing........it is the first week of the regular season. Let's see where they are at the all-star break before we judge their new lineup.

We know exactly what we will get from the Spurs. BTW, the Spurs may be another year older, but they are also another year wiser and better........and they are the Champs.

Since they kept the same nucleus in tact, there is no real learning curve, except for Udoka, Mahinmi, and Washington.

SA is 3-0 and has looked very good in each game.

I am not scared of a single team from the Leastern Conference.

If by "clone" you mean a soul-less, inferior copy, then I agree. :D

I'll take Timmy, Manu, and Tony Longoria over Garnett, Pierce and the Crybaby.
