Duncan, Shaq and Garnett will go down as best big men of this era. Duncan plays some Center too. I don't feel a need to beat down great players. Becomes who's stronger Superman or Underdog

Ray Allens buries a dagger to win a great game on the Road versus Toronto.

Allen goes for 33 on 11-16 shooting. Bosh and Ford are players for Toronto. KG went 23 points but was limited by fouls.

TORONTO (AP) -- On this day, at least, Ray Allen was the obvious choice among Boston's Big Three to get the ball with the game on the line.

Allen made the winning 3-pointer with less than 3 seconds to play, and finished with 33 points in the Celtics' 98-95 overtime victory over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday.

"A lot has been said about this team, what's going to happen at the end of games, who's going to take that shot," Allen said. "It's a joy to be out there offensively and for the coach to be able to draw up and play and there's three options."

T.J. Ford tied it at 95 on a 3-pointer with 4.4 seconds left in overtime, but Allen won it with a 3 from the corner on Boston's final possession. Paul Pierce inbounded the ball to Allen, who came off a Garnett screen to drain the tiebreaking basket.

"That was the play we drew up, for Ray to come off," Pierce said. "We had second and third options but the first option was open. We got the ball to him and executed our play."

Kevin Garnett scored 10 of his 23 points in overtime and added 13 rebounds, giving him double-doubles in both of his games for Boston this season.

Toronto chose not to double-team Garnett in the extra session, and he took full advantage.

"I knew at some point they were going to stop doubling," Garnett said. "I just had to be patient and get the ball where I wanted it."

Pierce added 13 points and six assists for Boston (2-0), and James Posey had 11. Ford led Toronto (2-1) with 32 points, and Chris Bosh had 19 points and 10 rebounds.

"I knew tonight was going to be a night where I had to put up a lot of shots because they weren't leaving our shooters," Ford said.

A game that started slowly ended in a wild finish, with one lead change and five ties down the stretch.

"Everybody that watched the game tonight got their money's worth," Allen said. "It was definitely fun to play in and be a part of."

The Celtics played without head coach Doc Rivers, who left Toronto early Sunday after his father died in Chicago. Assistant Tom Thibodeau took over for Rivers.

"Our thoughts are with Doc and so that makes it special, the fact that we were able to win for him," Thibodeau said.

Garnett said the Celtics didn't falter without Rivers on the bench.

"Thib did a great job tonight," Garnett said. "He's a defensively sound kind of guy."

Rivers, who addressed the team before leaving prior to the game, remained on his player's minds.

"We played hard tonight and we're glad to be able to get this win so Doc won't have to worry about the ship not being right," Allen said.

Allen, who made 11 of 16 shots, passed 17,000 points for his career with his first of two 3-pointers in overtime. He has 17,004 career points.

Boston held an 11-point lead after three quarters before Toronto rallied behind Bosh, whose basket made it 78-76 with under 1 minute left. Ford tied the game at 78 with a lay-up with 27 seconds remaining.

Pierce had a chance to win the game in regulation but his jumper from just outside the top of the key went wide, sending the game into overtime.

Allen scored 13 first-quarter points as Boston built a 23-14 lead. The Celtics led 38-31 at the half.

Notes

Toronto forward Joey Graham (strained left quad) was placed on the inactive list before the game. Graham, who is listed as day-to-day, was replaced by forward Jamario Moon. ... Bosh and Andrea Bargnani combined to miss all 12 of their field goal attempts in the first half.

Espescially If Celtics drub West teams like Denver tonight. Was up 40 in the 3rd. This team is a total beast.

Pulling starters now in 4th but a total beatdown.

Ray Allen, guard shooting at 64% for the season. Granett eats you up inside, Pierce takes you off dribble and Allen drains 3 on you and can also drive and score.

Rondo and House are underated guards especially with the Big 3 around them....

BOSTON (AP) -- Hard to believe, but Boston's newest Big Three thinks it can play even better.

Paul Pierce scored 26 points, Kevin Garnett added 23 points and 13 rebounds, and the Celtics shot 72 percent during an overpowering first half en route to a 119-92 victory over the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night.

"We are just scratching the surface on what we can do," Pierce said. "We enjoy seeing the next player make a great play and no one cares who gets credit."

Boston improved to 3-0 overall and has won both its home games by an average of 24 points. Ray Allen scored 22 points and is shooting 63 percent since joining the Celtics.

"They (Garnett, Pierce and Allen) like each other," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "They've all decided that they don't need anything individually and it is all about what's best for the team."

The Celtics barely broke a sweat in building a 77-38 halftime lead. Boston had multiple uncontested layups, dunks and an array of dazzling passes, outrebounded Denver 25-9 and dominated essentially every statistic on the box score.

Allen Iverson led the Nuggets with 22 points, but Carmelo Anthony was held to only 11 on 3-of-13 shooting. Denver dropped an emotional game on Tuesday in New York, 119-112, after blowing a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter and has lost three straight overall.

"It's a game we never had a shot in," Iverson said. "They jumped right on us and we were never able to take care of business."

Iverson appeared to be the only Nuggets player fazed by the huge early deficit. After Eduardo Najera picked up a technical early in the second quarter with Denver trailing 50-25, Iverson barked to referee Scott Wall, "We're down 25, isn't that enough?"

Rivers returned for Boston after missing a game due to the death of his father.

"Doc has been preaching to us about repetition," Garnett said. "We knew Denver could put up 150 points if they wanted to, but we want to be known as a defensive team."

Garnett, who also chipped in with seven assists, gave Boston its biggest lead of the game at 91-50 when he converted an alley-oop dunk from Pierce with 4:30 left in the third quarter.

Boston shot 65 percent for the game and has won 16 of the last 18 home games against the Nuggets.

Boston jumped ahead 38-22 after the first quarter behind 28 points from the trio of Garnett, Allen and Pierce. The Celtics extended the lead to 47-22 with a 9-0 run to begin the second quarter.

"I don't remember getting down by that much even on the bad teams in Toronto," Nuggets center Marcus Camby said.

Boston recorded its franchise high of 85 points in a half two separate times, both against the Nuggets.

Boston media is nixing The Big 3. The Allen/Garnett/Pierce combination is now "The Ticket"

"The Ticket" has a supporting cast. Rondo is going to be a very great point guard playing with The Ticket. He can beat you off dribble, dish and is an above average shooter, much improved. House is not a true point Guard but can shoot.

Inside Perkins is a solid 6-10 280 pounder that knows his role and has upside. Posey off bench is a solid Vet that can guard and score some. Pollard is a ? but a guy that can give 5-10 minutes in rotation.

Scalabrini totally sucks, I'll admit that and hope he doesn't see floor in any big game. Big Baby Davis is a crowd favorite but for now a #11 #12 in rotation who will only see time in blowout wins like last night.

Don't sell this team short - they are going to make a big run in the Spring and push the West.

as impressive as the win against the nuggests was, and it was their only imperssive win so far this year, its still real early and their depth, or lack there of, will hurt them come playoff time, just ask phoenix.

Those are valid points - I just think that Garnett, Allen and Pierce are all in game shape to play 40 minutes a game. There almost is not a time in rotation of game that at least 2/3 of the Ticket is not on the floor. They actually can beat up on second team players in early 2nd.

House, Posey, Perkins, Rondo can play. Injuries hit this team could be in troble but thats the same for Spurs and Mavs. House is an unbelievable shooter and like Posey's all around game.

Garnett is a beast out there - and running the court. Pierce can break you down off the dribble and score. And Ray Allen is 2nd best 3 point shooter in NBA history. I don't see this team getting stopped.

Even crazier is they are buying in to play defense.....

They are playin good.. But im gonna say this now.. they will not beat a western team in a 7 game plaoff book it.. Regardless if its the Mavs,Spurs or suns!!

Back from the Garden - Atlanta is an up and coming team.

Garnett took over and went for 27 and 19 rebounds. House continued to bury 3's and scored 19 in 26 minutes.

All in all the Celtics go to 4-0 and grind out a solid 23 point win.

BOSTON (AP) -- The Celtics are still making history. It's the good kind for a change.

Boston is off to its best start in 20 years after beating the Atlanta Hawks 106-83 Friday night behind another superb all-around game by Kevin Garnett.

The 10-time All-Star but first-year Celtic had 27 points, 19 rebounds, six assists and three blocks against a young and improving Atlanta team. Boston is much older but has improved more since posting the second worst record in the franchise's impressive history last season.

"When you coach or play in Boston, every day is something with history," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "This team is so history-rich. We've just got to get better."

The Celtics' 16 championships are the most in NBA history. Their 18-game losing streak last season was their longest ever.

So they traded for Garnett and Ray Allen, who joined Paul Pierce in the new Big Three.

Their 4-0 record is their best opening since 1987-88 when they won their first six games, finished with 52 wins and went on to the Eastern Conference finals, the last time the original Big Three of Larry Bird, Kevin McHale and Robert Parish got there.

The winning margins this season have been much greater -- 20, 3, 26 and 23 points. In 1987, Boston won its first four games by 17, 1, 9 and 14.

"It's not only Garnett," Hawks coach Mike Woodson said. "When you throw Ray Allen and Paul Pierce in the mix, you know they've got shooters spaced all around Garnett."

Boston became the NBA's only remaining unbeaten team after the Los Angeles Clippers lost at Detroit on Friday night

Garnett has had a double-double in all four games, Pierce scored 23 points, Allen had 14 and Boston led by at least eight throughout the second half. Another newcomer, Eddie House, came off the bench to score 19, hitting four of five 3-pointers.

"He was the sparkplug," Pierce said.

Atlanta was led by Joe Johnson and Al Horford with 16 points each and Marvin Williams with 14. The Hawks' two wins this season have been over Dallas and Phoenix, who both won more than 60 games last season.

The Celtics won just 24 but so far have lived up to preseason predictions after they obtained Garnett and Allen.

"Boston looks like a great team, three great All-Stars" Johnson said. "They play the game the way it should be played."

The Celtics took the lead for good midway through the second quarter, stretched it to 17 points early in the third and led by between 8 and 23 the rest of the way.

The Hawks led 31-30 before Allen's short jumper gave the Celtics the lead for good and began an 11-2 run that made it 41-33 with 4:49 left in the second quarter. Atlanta cut that to 47-39 but Boston finished the half with an 8-2 spurt in which Pierce had six points.

Atlanta came back again, trimming the lead to 67-59 with 2:42 left in the third quarter as the Celtics played sloppily. They finished with 18 turnovers.

"We hit our own guy in the head with the ball," Rivers said. "We're better than we played tonight."

They were solid on defense, a point of emphasis for the rebuilt team.

"The offense is the obvious, but you all don't know how hard we work on our defense," Garnett said, "talking to each other and being one when we're out there. We know we're not flawless."

After the lead dipped to eight, the Celtics answered by outscoring the Hawks 19-9 and taking an 86-68 lead with 8:08 remaining.

"We tightened up the defense and when we did that the offense started rolling," House said.

Garnett started that rally with a short turnaround jumper, House hit a 3-pointer and Garnett sank two free throws before Marvin Williams' tip drew the Hawks to 74-61 at the end of the third.

With Boston leading 79-66, Garnett sank another turnaround and Allen made a 14-footer. Josh Smith countered with a jumper for Atlanta, but House ended the run with another 3-pointer.

"We showed immaturity by playing too much one-on-one," Johnson said.

The Celtics resumed the sharpshooting they displayed in their 119-93 win over Denver on Wednesday night when they made 64.5 percent of their shots, their best since Nov. 24, 1993. On Friday night, they hit 61.2 percent while holding the Hawks to 42.9.

"They handed it to us, man," Johnson said. "It's a learning experience."

Notes

Boston F Brian Scalabrine suffered a concussion in the fourth quarter and is expected to miss Saturday night's game at New Jersey. ... The Celtics outrebounded the Hawks 39-29 and had 30 assists to 17 for Atlanta.

The Celtics top 3 are as good or better then any team's top 3 and are all capable of catching fire and taking over a series. The Suns and Spurs may be better all around teams, but I wouldnt count out the Celtics vs anyone.
