EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (ESPN.com news services) -- Brett Favre didn't need a rocket arm to become the winningest quarterback in NFL history on Sunday. His 17 years of football knowledge and a near-perfect second half against a bad defense were plenty.

Passing into history
Brett Favre

Future Hall of Famer Brett Favre is closing in on some impressive, and not-so-impressive, NFL records. On Sunday, he became the league's all-time winningest quarterback. (Stats through Week 2)
Career Records Favre Holder
Wins as starter 149 Favre
Passing yards 57,992 Dan Marino, 61,361
Interceptions 275 George Blanda, 277
TD passes 417 Marino, 420
Pass attempts 8,304 Marino, 8,358

Favre completed his first 14 second-half passes and threw three touchdown passes to rally the Green Bay Packers to a 35-13 victory over the New York Giants' porous defense.

"Maybe someday down the road it will mean a lot," a typically humble Favre said after the 149th win of his career, moving past Hall of Famer John Elway.

What meant more to Favre was the game ball his teammates handed him after the Packers got off to their first 2-0 start since 2001.

"I'm not going to sit here and lie to you," added Favre, who was 29-of-38 for 286 yards and one interception. "I'm not going to turn it down. I've always been about the team. That hasn't changed. I think it's unfair that the quarterback gets labeled with wins and losses. I think it's a team effort."

While Favre refused to bask in the glory, Packers coach Mike McCarthy said any NFL record is a monumental achievement.

"I think a lot is made of statistics and touchdowns, but I think it's wins," McCarthy said. "When you go out and win over that period of time, that's the ultimate compliment a quarterback can have."

The loss was the second straight for the undisciplined and error-prone Giants, which hasn't happened at the start of a season since 1996 -- the year Dan Reeves got fired.

Tom Coughlin, who came into the season under pressure to do more than make the playoffs, may now be really under the gun.

"I think we are a better football team than we have shown," said Coughlin, whose team has already given up 80 points. "Obviously I don't have any real grounds for saying that, it is just a belief. I do believe we are all in it together and I do believe we are all embarrassed."

Favre threw a go-ahead 2-yard touchdown pass to Bubba Franks on the Packers' opening series of the second half. The eight-time Pro Bowl quarterback added TD tosses of 3 yards to Donald Lee, and 10 to Donald Driver after New York rookie Ahmad Bradshaw fumbled a kickoff.

"It's amazing," said Driver, who had eight catches 73 yards. "I'm just glad to say I am part of the legacy. When he gets ready to go to Canton, Ohio, I just hope to be in the audience cheering him on."

Scouts Buzz
The Green Bay Packers got an impressive road win over the injury-riddled Giants. Surprisingly, QB Eli Manning not only played with a second-degree shoulder separation, but he delivered the ball well, for the most part. It wasn't necessarily the offense that led to the Giants' second loss, however. Instead, it was a marginal effort by the Giants defense that was costly. Head coach Tom Coughlin was willing to take some chances to try to pressure Brett Favre and slow down the Packers. They used a variety of blitz packages, but Favre was excellent at getting the ball out quickly vs. man coverage. He avoided the pressure, was patient in the pocket and got the ball in the hands of his playmakers. Wide receiver Donald Driver and tight ends Bubba Franks and Donald Lee each scored against underneath linebacker coverage that appeared to be outmanned.

Favre was 18-of-21 for 147 yards in the second half as he constantly exposed the Giants' defense with short passes.

Rookie DeShawn Wynn added touchdown runs of 6 and 38 yards.

Eli Manning, whose playing status was uncertain all week because of a sprained shoulder, played well, leading New York to scores on three consecutive series bridging the second and third quarters. Initial ESPN reports that said he would miss a month were inaccurate.

He threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Plaxico Burress and helped set up field goals of 48 and 32 yards by Lawrence Tynes, who also missed a 34-yarder on the game's opening series.

"Physically I'm fine," said Manning, who finished 16-of-29 for 211 yards and an interception before being lifted after Green Bay scored its final touchdown. "Mentally, I am upset with the loss and missed opportunities."

Down 10-7 at the half, Favre dominated the second half.

A 42-yard kickoff return by Tramon Williams gave the Packers the ball at their 49. Favre needed 10 plays. He hit fullback Korey Hall for two 10-yard dumpoffs early in the drive and a 17-yarder to James Jones before finding the burly Franks for the go-ahead touchdown. Favre completed all five passes on the drive.

After Tynes' 32-yard field goal cut the gap to 14-13, Favre engineered an 80-yard drive on which he hit all nine passes, including the 3-yarder to Lee in the right corner of the end zone.

Favre iced the game after Bradshaw's fumble was recovered by Tracy White at the New York 22. Five plays later, he found Driver in the back of the end zone for a 28-13 lead.

The Giants were guilty of two major blunders.

Pro Bowl tight end Jeremy Shockey was called for a delay penalty (spiking the ball) after a first-down catch at the Packers 16 late in the first half with the score tied at 7. He later dropped a potential first-down pass at the Green Bay 3 just seconds later, forcing Tynes to make a 48-yard field goal and give the Giants a 10-7 lead.

Veteran Amani Toomer also had an embarrassing mistake. He was called for a taunting penalty at the Green Bay 8 a couple of plays before New York settled for Tynes' second field goal, cutting the Packers lead to 14-13 in the third quarter. Instead of third-and-goal at the Green Bay 8, New York was pushed back to the 23.

"We have no excuses," Coughlin said. "There is no explanation for it. We gave ourselves some opportunities and then took them away, so we became our own worst enemy."

Game notes
The Packers have won six straight regular-season games, the last four of 2006 and the first two this year. Driver has caught passes in 82 consecutive games. ... Giants rookie receiver Steve Smith left the game in the first half with a shoulder injury. ...Green Bay kicker Mason Crosby, who was 3-for-3 last week, with a game-winning last-minute field goal, missed a 42-yarder on his only attempt this week.

Pats' year of perfection capped by thrilling comeback win over Giants
Scouts Buzz
While it obviously was a record-setting game for Tom Brady, Randy Moss and everyone associated with the Patriots organization, the Giants took plenty of positives out of this game, as well. It was apparent Plaxico Burress is finally healthy, and the play of rookie replacement TE Kevin Boss was encouraging, with Jeremy Shockey out for the remainder of the season. But the big story for the Giants was the play of Eli Manning, who not only put up excellent numbers, but also showed poise and leadership on a big stage. Losing in the NFL is never a good thing, but New York should be able to build on the momentum it created Saturday night as it prepares to travel to Tampa Bay for its first-round playoff matchup. New York has to feel confident it can hang with any team it faces in the postseason.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Tom Brady was as giddy as the quarterback of an unbeaten and perhaps unbeatable team should be. Had Bill Belichick spotted him slapping the backs of his New England teammates, the dour coach might have scoffed.

After all, a perfect 16-0 regular season won't mean much if the Patriots don't win their next three games and another Super Bowl.

"We've been dealing with being undefeated all season," Brady said Saturday night after the thrilling 38-35 victory over the New York Giants in a game worthy of the NFL's championship showcase. "It was kind of a strange game. It really doesn't mean much to either team, but it means a lot."

• All you need to know as the Pats chase the mark set by the Super Bowl-winning 1972 Fins. Pursuit of Perfection

New England became the first NFL team since the 1972 Dolphins to win every game on the schedule, and that one was only 14-0. This victory required a Brady-engineered comeback from a 12-point deficit and smashed the Patriots' league mark for consecutive victories.

"Going undefeated during the regular season is a remarkable achievement," 1972 Dolphins coach Don Shula said. "I know firsthand how difficult it is to win every game, and just as we did in 1972, the Patriots have done a great job concentrating on each week's opponent and not letting any other distractions interrupt that focus. If they go on to complete an undefeated season, I will be the first to congratulate Coach Belichick and the Patriot organization."

Validation of the Patriots' inexorable march through the season can only come by adding a Super Bowl championship. Do that, and there'll be no challenge to their spot at the top.

"Hats off to us," said record-setting receiver Randy Moss, who caught Brady's 65-yard bomb for the go-ahead score that set two major records. "I know a lot of people didn't think we were going to do it. A lot of people didn't want us to do it.

"In this game of football, it's hard to go 16-and-0. As a football player and a fan of the game, my hat's off to this organization."

In gaining their 19th straight win over two seasons, the Patriots went on top on Brady's 50th touchdown pass of the year and Moss' 23rd TD reception. It came with 11:06 remaining.

Brady beat Peyton Manning's mark of 49 touchdown passes and Moss broke Jerry Rice's record of 22 TD receptions. And the Patriots finished with an incredible 589 points for the season, another single-season record.

Once the victory was clinched, Belichick was barely more animated than usual. He shared hugs with players and assistant coaches on the sideline, but there was no thought of carrying him off on the Patriots' shoulders or dumping Gatorade all over him.

That will have to wait for three more wins -- if they come.

"It's a great feeling," Belichick admitted. "Now is the time to take a day or two and appreciate what this team has done, but at the same time we have our biggest game of the year coming up. Pretty soon we need to turn the page and move on."

Who knows, the Patriots might even find the Giants on one of the next pages, especially if Eli Manning again resembles his vaunted older brother.

"We didn't win the game, but if you saw everybody in the locker room, everybody was excited," Manning said. "I never saw a locker room so upbeat after a loss because we played so well, did some good things and hung in there in a game where we didn't have to play. We wanted to. We wanted to come out and play well, and we did that."

The Giants (10-6), already guaranteed a playoff game against Tampa Bay next weekend and with little to play for except spoiling New England's perfect ride, led 28-16 in the third quarter. It was the Patriots' largest deficit all year as the Giants showed no fear and plenty of versatility, scoring the most points New England allowed in a game during this remarkable run.

Manning threw for four touchdowns and Domenik Hixon, in his first game as New York's primary kick returner, went 74 yards for a score 11 seconds after Brady and Moss tied their respective records.

Not to worry. These Patriots are unflappable, and they matched their comebacks in wins over Dallas, Indianapolis, Philadelphia and Baltimore earlier in the season. A 73-yard drive ended with Laurence Maroney's 6-yard run to make it 28-23 with 4:00 to go in the third period.

Then came the most familiar of scenes: Brady dropping back, winding up and hitting a wide-open Moss in stride for a touchdown. The final go-ahead TD in their perfect year.

"What I'm most proud of is playing a playoff team on the road that was playing extremely hard," Brady said. "We found a way to come back and win. We did the same thing at Dallas. We did the same thing at Indy. We've been in some tough games.

"Everyone is going to enjoy this one. It happens once every 35 years."

Although many are eager to hail these Patriots as the NFL's all-time best, such acclaim won't come unless they win two playoff games and their fourth Super Bowl this decade. And for those who might deny such greatness considering the "Spygate" scandal, well, 19-0 would speak pretty loudly.

Certainly louder than any postgame celebrations at Giants Stadium, the same building where they were caught videotaping New York Jets assistant coaches in Week 1, a rules violation that cost Belichick and the franchise $750,000 in fines and a 2008 first-round draft choice. That made Belichick even more close-mouthed and dour than usual, and his team followed his lead -- right to 16-0.

The Giants opened the game as if they were, well, the Patriots, driving 74 yards, sparked by a 52-yard completion on which Plaxico Burress outleapt Ellis Hobbs for Manning's jump-ball throw. Brandon Jacobs broke Tedy Bruschi's tackle to score on a 7-yard reception for a 7-0 lead.

Naturally, the Patriots, the highest-scoring team in NFL history, struck back. After Stephen Gostkowski's 37-yard field goal, New England went on top -- and surpassed Minnesota's league mark of 556 points -- on the record-tying 4-yard TD pass from Brady to Moss, who soared above rookie Aaron Ross for the score.

The 10-7 lead lasted all of 11 seconds. The usually staid Patriots gathered around Moss as he did a dance in the end zone, prompting a 15-yard excessive celebration penalty. Belichick argued the call with referee Mike Carey, perhaps sensing how costly it might be.

It was as Hixon sped 74 yards untouched to lift the Giants back in front.

"There is nothing but positives," Giants coach Tom Coughlin said. "I told the players in playing this game everything would be positives, there would be no negatives and that is how I feel.

"I don't know any better way to be prepared for the playoffs than to go against a team that was 15-0."

Gostkowski kicked two more field goals as the Patriots grabbed a 16-14 lead with 1:59 left in the half.

That's when Manning, coming off several rough games, was at his best, leading a quick 85-yard drive that included a rare scramble for 11 yards just before he found Kevin Boss in the middle of the end zone with 13 seconds remaining. The 21-16 deficit was only the second time New England has trailed at halftime this season; the other was to the older Manning and the Colts.

But with such a potent offense, the Patriots never are out of any game. Once they got the lead, they closed it out with another touchdown drive, Maroney scoring from the 5. Manning hit Burress again from 3 yards with 1:04 to go, but New England recovered the onside kick.

"We're down 10 or 11 (actually 12) in the third quarter, the crowd was into it, and we found a way to win," Brady said. "That's the way it's going to be down the stretch ... just hope we can continue to play this kind of football."

Game notes
Brady finished 32-for-42 for 356 yards, while Manning was 22-for-32 for 251 yards and the only interception. ... The other teams to go unbeaten in a season were the 1934 and 1942 Chicago Bears; both lost in the NFL title game. ... New England also set a league mark with 75 touchdowns. ... The Giants lost center Shaun O'Hara, backup safety Craig Dahl and linebacker Kawika Mitchell, all with knee injuries, and cornerback Sam Madison with an abdominal strain.

Celtics and their perceived weak bench beat SpursHouse is a name you might want to watch when open behind the three:)

Big Daddy got Big game in the paint and manned up and was solid defending Duncan. Rondo was out of control with 12 boards and 11 assists - Kid has crazy athletic ability yet tapped.

Yes, and no answer for Paul Pierce. Bowen at his advanced age can't handle him at all. Pierce is now pushing 235 and can take him to the hole and just shoot over him. Nice 35 point game for PP!

did you watch the game? bowen didnt start guarding pierce till the second quarter, he was too busy abusing ray allen again. Way to go big baby, holding duncan to 20+ points, 10+ rebounds, and 50% shooting, great job! great job rondo, not having to deal with parker on the defensive end, must be great. both teams are banged up and its just a regular season game, your acting like you already won the championship, didnt you learn from your beloved patriots?

Win for Boston, bottom line

Without Garnett and Perkins. Duncan was kept in check, had ball turned over and missed a lot of shots.

Pierce went for 35 and Allen 19. Bowen looked old out there, was beaten all night and adds nothing on offense. Just like Umberto.

Your boy Studamire was 1-11 at the point. Exposed by Celtics as the fraud he is.

With Ray and I we have enough firepower (without G), we take care of the defense we win games.....

Celtics #1 at most all defensive stats.

Well 50 games in and 41 victories. Outstanding start for C's.

Knicks last 2 games have gone cheap yet again. Goons trying to hurt people. Elbows and cheap shots all night long. Big Baby and Scal knocked out with injuries and they were going after teeth and flagrant fouls.

At times with Garnett, Perkins already out we were playing with Powe and Pierce at Center, SF.... And we held down low and kept lead second half.

HUGE win from a team building angle. We won the game tonight with our top #5 big guys out most of the game.

Ray Allen walked off at halftime and said he'd played forward before with a wink.

I still can't get this out of my mind.

Powe and Pierce played Center and Strong Forward second half with no backups and more than held their own. At Times Pierce was playing CENTER and more than hanging.

We need Garnett, Perk, Big Baby, Scal, Pollard back obviously but the team showed serious resiliency in a tight spot with a roster of 8.

Big Apple Circus History:
Inspired in Europe, founded in America in 1977 by Paul Binder and Michael Christensen, the Big Apple Circus introduced American audiences to the intimate and interactive environment of a one-ring circus under the Big Top.

The Big Apple Circus is more than just a circus. Each performance is rooted in tradition, but the commitment to kids and families is a vision truly their own. Classical Circus all began in 1770, when Philip Astley combined equestrian showmanship, acrobats and jugglers into a one-ring show. The circus began in 1977, with the vision and passion of our co-founders Paul Binder and Michael Christensen. That vision is still the beating heart of the Big Apple Circus, making us who they are, and guiding all they have done in their Brief History.

The Brief History starts in Kent, England, 1974, where American entertainers and Big Apple Circus co-founders Paul Binder and Michael Christensen crafted a comedic juggling act that over the next 18 months they took to the street corners all over Europe. In 1976, after a season with Annie Fratellini's one-ring Nouveau Cirque de Paris that changed their lives, they returned home to America. One year later they created what would become a world-renowned performing arts organization, which has entertained millions of people across the country, and become a leader in premium family entertainment.

Since then Paul and Michael have worked hard to bring national audiences the intimate and interactive environment of a one-ring circus under a Big Top tent, and take the magic of circus outside the ring to children in need.
